Excellent video. I did exactly the same thing you did = bought a Yes welder pre sale and got the same welder you got. I also have never welded before, but I bought a farm so figured I'd need to learn how to weld as I'm sure I'll be fixing things on the farm as we build it up. It was very interesting (and I need to check mine) to learn about the different type of wheels, and the switching from positive to negative if your using flux vs. solid core. I've only used flux core (need to purchase a bottle of gas and a regulator) so I better check to see if mine is set up with the correct wheel and polarity. I've only welded a couple of things so far, and your welds look WAY better than mine. Thanks for showing how the difference in voltage affected the welds. I didn't understand that aspect of welding at all, like I said I've never welded before so ... Love your channel and love doing DIY stuff = never be afraid of trying to learn a new skill.

1) A good weld should sound like frying bacon. 2) Some of the new machines have automatic polarity switching, which is really nice. You tell it if you're using TIG, MIG, SMAW, flux core, whatever, and it just does it. 3) While the gas flow rate for MIG isn't super touchy, note that some of the floating ball regulators specify that the ball should be centered on the desired flow rate graduation, while others specify the top or bottom of the ball should touch it. If the gauge doesn't specify it, use the center of the ball and the worst that'll happen is you'll be about +5 or -5 CFM off what you want. 4) Some gas nozzles screw on and off, while others (like the Vulcan Omnipro) just pull off and push on. 5) Keep the nozzle clean. One of the 7 to 8 functions the welpers (welding pliers) have is using the tips to basically ream the nozzle out.
