0:00 Introduction: Is oatmeal healthy?
1:17 New information on oatmeal
7:00 Is eating breakfast healthy?
7:17 Learn more about the benefits of skipping breakfast!
Is oatmeal bad for you? Let’s talk about it.
The small packets of flavored oatmeal contain a lot of sugar, and even though they may be marketed as healthy-they’re not.
But what about unsweetened oatmeal?
Here are three things you might not know about unsweetened oatmeal:
1. Certain studies show a significant improvement in blood sugar and cholesterol. However, the control in one of these studies is white bread. The study also only showed an improvement in blood sugar right after the meal.
Part of the study referring to cholesterol was only on consuming beta-glucan, which is an isolated compound in oatmeal. In a different study, the participants all had diabetes, and they didn’t see a change in their blood glucose levels.
2. Oats contain a type of gluten called avenin. This protein has been known to increase cytokines.
3. Oat products have often been treated with glyphosate. The World Health Organization classifies glyphosate as a carcinogen.
It may be beneficial to skip breakfast altogether and give intermittent fasting a try. If you do consume breakfast, eggs would be a healthier choice than oatmeal.

Can't drink water mate, it's full of chlorine and fluoride chemicals along with all the metals from your pipes. Worse thing you can have is water. Also don't breathe AIR! Yes new studies show that air has pollution in it which is lethal to humans, it is also full of pollen which will swell nasal airways and cause havoc on your immune system. Please don't forget that ALL food is also harmful, all plants have lectins and animals consume plants plus grains and breathe the bad air.

I’ve eaten oatmeal since 13 or 14. I’m 49 now. No health issues and all the labs work come back great. I’m fit and healthy. I’ve eaten Quaker Oates every single day, even camping, or traveling, oatmeal has been part of my breakfast for decades. My grandmother who passed at 94 ate it every day since a child. She worked till she was 80. So I guess oatmeal should be skipped? Nope. I’m not changing up a thing. Most people around me at my age I know, suffer from may health related issues. In the last 3 yrs, I have switched to Red Mill brand. Much better than Quaker.

In fact that is the meal which I eat in a day that makes me feel the best out of all meals that I eat in a day. I do not add any fats in the morning because I have noticed fats slowed my focus and concentracion down and made me not feel very well. I eat healthy fats after morning but I use them in small amounts because that is how my body feels best and my digestion is so much better, before I felt promblems with digestion, it was irritated easily. I have not found a meal more filling and better for my health than oats that I eat every day in the morning(eating breakfast is so important because if you skip breakfast your blood sugar levels will drop and you will feel it in change of mood, I think it is even very bad for health to skip breakfast). Like a fool I started eating oatmeal again after not eating it for 20 years because of those high carbs. Funny thing when I started eating oatmeal again, all my prostate problem that were killing me went away completely. We're eating rolled oats(not instant) every morning..30-40 grams of rolled oats ..add 10-15 grams of oat bran, add nuts, banana, unsweetened cacao powder(optional)do not pour too much boiled water... just enough to cover the rolled oats and oat bran..not too liquid to avoid glucose. The key point is avoid boiling the rolled oats. Actually above 65°c the starch starts "to leak" making it more digestible, hence a quicker and higher glycemic load. The insulinemic response being mainly driven by the glucose, no peak of sugar =no peak of insulin. In the literature, the GI of large oats flakes is given for around 50 but is more than 60 for thin flakes. Boiled for 8 minutes it can reach more than 70. Take note that the flakes(rolled oats) are already pre cooked, it is not like eating raw oats. Overnight rolled oats during summer. We buy organic rolled oats here in France. 14 hour Intermittent fasting is enough for us but we never skip breakfast. Hope Dr. Berg will make a video on the effect of eating eggs/dairy products on prostate health.

My grandfather just recently died from natural causes at 96 yrs old, and he also ate oatmeal his whole life. Both of my grandparents were mostly oatmeal, meat, veggie, and fruit eaters my whole life. My grandmother would also bake the occasional cake or pie, and they would eat that too. Neither of them have ever had any major health issues. My grandparents are African American and have lived in California all of their adult lives, after moving there from Texas in the 1950's. Honestly I stand in a shop sometimes staring at the foods thinking will this affect my stomach, my mood everything. I don't know what or who to trust anymore. I've noticed food in the UK has got noticeably bad, especially meat and veg - unless you buy organic or grass fed etc but that isn't sustainable as its so fooking expensive! I try and eat as clean as possible, minimal diary , minimal gluten and still my guts are inflamed weekly which in turn affects mood. In my thirties now but in my twenties I never seemed to have this neurosis about food, maybe not caring when you're younger is the secret! Eating and choosing the right foods never become so stressful. I have a high metabolism and naturally slim, so putting on weight healthily without oats would seem impossible.

However, when I was in an extended stay in Scotland that included our meals, we were served pinhead oatmeal everyday. There was no other source of protein, so this is what I ate. It sustained me well and I did not experience my normal reaction to oatmeal, which is a glucose drop. I was impressed so I ordered some from pinhead oatmeal online. I don't understand that. Why would your blood sugar levels drop from eating oatmeal ? Surely they would go up? Or does your condition just mean your blood sugars can drop for no reason or certain foods trigger it? One time I was in a boxing gym (for amateurs more fun than serious) and this new trainer came in and had us all doing HILT and wed never experienced it before and expected a gentle spar and I felt incredibly sick and I knew I was going to collapse and something was seriously wrong with me but before I could shout "I'm going to pass out" several minutes had passed and I was on the floor , they were forcing sugary snacks and drinks into me and I felt myself feeling better the more sugar I had

I eat organic steel cut oats once per week. Topped with lots of warmed blueberries, unsweetened coconut, flax, chia, pecans, almond slices, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, cinnamon, sometimes hemp seeds or walnuts, and a few chocolate chips. A banana on the side. Delicious! Every Saturday morning...off to make it!

Sheri Ballard- I'm with you. I buy organic rolled and steel cut oats. I sometimes soak them overnight in organic unsweetened plain yogurt. I don't eat a lot of oats, but I like to have them in my cupboard. I realize there are a many Keto foods out there, which I will explore. I tend not to eat breakfast every day and would be too depressed if I had to give up everything I was raised on in New England. A few favorites come in a healthy form and go far to improve my overall mood, especially in winter. ~ Diane

Funny enough, I always felt uncomfortable after eating oats since I was a kid and I've been diagnosed with Graves Disease (hyperactive thyroid) 6 years ago. Unfortunately, I had to have a thyroidectomy 4 years ago. I thought my Graves Disease would go away after the thyroidectomy, but no, I had to do my own research and thankfully, from last year there's much more information about it. I went on a low carb and gluten free diet, which led me to buy gluten free oats. I still react a bit, but not as bad as before. And you're right Dr. Berg, skipping breakfast as part of intermittent fasting, it does wonders to me. I just had to stop my intermittent fasting of 17 hours, because I'm now pregnant, but still, I do manage at my 2nd trimester to have 13 hours of fasting.

@Ilovejesusalways. you'd have to do an elimination diet to find out, since autoimmune diseases can vary according to each person sensitivity. Although, I definitely recommend going gluten free. Most autoimmune diseases benefit from gluten free diets. If in the beginning it's hard to cut off gluten, you can always take enzymes such as protease, cellulase and amylase as supplements. These enzymes help gluten digestion, but of course when gluten is ingested in small portions. Hope this helps :)

@@isthatatesla7191 Thank you, Sometimes 3pm for first meal is difficult, But I’m generally 19-20 hours fasting. Staying busy with chores to distract myself is the only way I can push thru. I have a garden, and 9 chickens. Between them, and doing catch-up work from being down with recovery from shoulder replacement, for 7- 8 months, there is plenty to do, to keep me distracted! The key is always keep trying to find what works for us. There are so many approaches to take with fasting. It’s definitely not a “one size fits all” kind of deal!

Sometimes you gotta know when to take a break from Dr Berg. I go in cycles, few weeks of watching then a few weeks of a break. The anxiety loop is insane on this channel. Love it, but yea. Fit, healthy and all the things, but I still gotta pace this out.

Nobody gets extremely healthy from following this garbage. Even high level athletes don't inspect their food to this degree. It's how these channels survive, create constant fear to bait clicks. I do intense cardio, burn massive calories, eat meat & enjoy a lot of junk. Drink a lot of water, coffee. Resting heart rate is 44bpm, run marathons. Never once did I buy into this junk. The simple principles of eating meat, veggies, carbs & a ton of water will do it. Not examining the effect of an ingredient in a food that when studied showed a rat was able to fart rainbows.

I started eating Oatmeal about a year ago - McCann's Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal, organic, not instant. I don't really know much about oats or oatmeal, but I like non processed foods and this fit the bill. I just went for my annual doctor's visit and my doctor (of many years) asked WHAT I had been doing/eating - my cholesterol was lower than it ever had been, perfectly normal rather than on the 'edge or border' of being high. I replied "lentils and Irish oats." She said "keep doing it." So, I will ;~) I think Dr. Berg had good things to say about the kind of oats/oatmeal to eat as he enlightened me, letting me know both sides of eating oatmeal daily.

Another thing that I found out to my expense is that oats can cause hemhorroids. A few years ago I got hemhorroids really bad and tried lots of different things to get rid of them without success. I saw a small article somewhere on the internet that said it could be caused by eating too much oats, so I cut the oats out of my diet and the hemhorroids cleared up completely within a few days. So if anyone is out there struggling with the same condition just try it, it definitely worked for me.

During 2020 one of my dogs (7y/o German Shepherd) became very ill. His blood tests and xrays and ECG's showed he may not make it. Very high liver values, kidney values, cholesterol. He had sepsis on the blood. Enlarged spleen. Enlarged heart. Difficulty breathing. Probably more that I don't remember. Wasn't a nice time, I dearly love that dog. Best pal. Anyway, other than all the medication he was put on, part of his recovery was changing our dogs diets to home made focused on health. A base of oats, eggs, squash. Adding either lean beef or chicken. To cut a long story short, he had a recovery fairly quickly. 3 meals a day, all the same food. 3 years later eating the same diet, nearly 10, his periodic blood tests and other tests come up healthy in normal ranges. The vet even said his heart wasn't enlarged the last time he was x-rayed a few months ago. There is nothing anyone can say to me that would make me want to change that diet for them, the proof of health is right there for me. My dogs eat a lot of oats...

I measured my blood sugar with my grandpas little reader (he’s diabetic) after my old breakfast: 3 eggs, 2 turkey bacon, home fries and toast. @@Chris-ui9ij I agree. But that’s my point . When people say oatmeal is bad because it’s a carb that’s unfair. It can’t be lumped in with potatoes, bread and pasta. Oatmeal (especially steel cut) breaks down much slower in the body especially when combined with fats like flax/hemp seeds, and fiber from the berries. Very little insulin spike. It can be a part of a very healthy diet.
