How is going your recovery?

@@josephdaiute8361 man that's really encouraging for me. Congrats! I have NDPH and I'm in terrible pain. I'm planning to move from Colombia to USA to have this surgery. I'm about to have my first nerve block ever, and I'm really enthusiastic but it kind of calm me down knowing that there's a 'cure' out there. How did you realize you were a candidate?

I had the same question cuz I see Nashville Neuroscience in Nashville. They never told me about Vanderbilt University plastic surgery department that specializes in this type of surgery. I found out by accident filled out the form online and I got an appointment. They're very trained at what they studied, not just the other type of plastic surgery and I was impressed. Sometimes you have to look around.. plus Vanderbilt University is trained when it comes to the prior authorization of my state insurance and I was so happy and the lady explained to me that we are trained to deal with your insurance and we got to approved. Not like they were making a ton of money cuz this insurance does not allow it. I already had my surgery which my cut is different than what he's showing here. Mines from left to right. I had this done... "bilateral greater and lesser and third occipital nerve decompression/avulsion"

When you meet with the doctor you explain the pain of the different types of pain and how is it come about. There's many different types of migraine pain that could come about the is connected to the nerves.

But I had some temporary blocks and the obstacle nerves and though they may last for the day, I could feel how much numb the back of my head and calm the migraine pain.. It was a really a test to see if it was coming from the nerves and I would feel like this blurring pain in my neck. After a while when I had my neck surgery had a few discs taken out and I noticed that this blaring neck pain will come up to the back of my head and it turned to migraine and that was something new to me rather than my normal chronic night migraine and I explained that almost the last year or two to the neurologist and said that there's something wrong. So I was going to get test blocks at the pain management and if they're successful they were going to burn my nerves. It would regenerate after 6 months they call it. Radio frequency ablation. But I'm very glad that I ran into this type of doctor who does surgery. He was able to get notes and had to talk with me. 30 minutes was able to get my insurance which is state insurance to pay for it cuz I have a chronic condition. They are trying to deal with my state insurance at Vanderbilt plastic surgery in Nashville. I'm very confident in what they're doing. I seen the confidence in the doctor and he knew that I was very good explaining what I've been experiencing since at the beginning of these migraines that start and how they have changed to different ones, especially the offseptical nerves. I kept blaming that all my migraines were behind my skull. I never realized they would be on our nerves

How are you headaches now

@@dontoddz.world.. completely gone now but lasted 24/7 for 6months it was horrible, found THE doctor who gave me the right treatment and I was pain free after 45 days

My Neurosurgeon told me in my pre-op consultation, is no Neurologist or Anaesthesiologist recommend surgery. After six years of Occipital neuralgia, I found a surgeon in the UK who did the decompression surgery. It is not approved yet in Europe. I paid myself when my insurance refused.

@@michellemeuleman385 thank you for your concern re my surgery. All went well. There is another procedure for occipital neuralgia, called "electro frequency stimulation", but it's just my opinion. I would trust it, nor could I keep my job with the small implant. My surgeon (reconstructive cosmetic surgery) said it has quite a high failure rate. But I will be honest, because I would help anyone who suffers this disabling pain. I have read people requesting euthanasia in Switzerland but have been refused personally I was close to euthanising myself, if that's a word, lol. But many people on these forums and social media sites talk about it because they cannot find the medical help and the pain without opiates is too much. But you say in your comment the cortisone injections don't work. I don't want to get your hopes up either, as my surgeon who did my procedure told me not everyone is eligible for the procedure. The occipital nerve compression apparently is only one of the nerves that trigger migraines. The occipital nerve can be compressed by many different sources. Mine was the trapped at the trapezoid tunnel and complicated by the tendon like tissues coming down over nerve. But the first question I was asked was to fill out a form about migraines. None of which was applicable as Occipital neuralgia is not migraine headaches. But the search took me over 5 years and hundreds of emails to find this surgeon. It's an uphill battle, but do it as you won't get the answers through most doctors as they don't know. I will check on the email of the lady who helped me in San Antonio, and send it to you. It is from social media and forums to find the right surgeon or doctor but I do see people listing some on KZfaq and Facebook have a lot of help forums. It's an uphill struggle and can be costly. Also, the occipital nerve decompression surgery is on KZfaq. I started in Ireland, found the surgeon in the UK, he operated out of Berlin, and this started back in 2015. But please get the help. If your doctors don't know, like me, that nurse in San Antonio who runs a Facebook forum, found me a website with a telephone number last year, and 3 months later, I'm mostly headache free. I'll get back to you with that email 🙂

The reason for the question is if you're in the states, you'll be able to contact directly yourself. If Europe, it's a little more complicated. I'll let you know when he gets back to me. Mine did for occipital neuralgia headaches. Better than the alternative of a electric pulse generator implant, which my surgeon said the electrode connectors can often separate from the nerves

I would strongly recommend it. Only if you have chronic migraines or headaches in general. It's called "Occipital Nerve Decompression " My incision was about 6" and after five weeks post op., hardly any scar. Yes they have to shave a small amount in back of your head.

No. They use an endoscope. It goes in a little hole and they take care of the surgery that way. That’s what he said, anyway. I’ve had endoscopic surgery and it is MUCH easier than surgery where they open you up completely. My doctor did “minimally invasive” surgery when he did my spinal fusion, and instead of having to stay in the hospital for 3-5 days, I was ready to be released in two days.

It’s worth it, I’ll go bald for a pain free life

If you deactivate the nerves you will have facial paralysis. This technology is much better.

speaking from experience I know for fact in my case they have never removed or cut any nerves or blood vessels. I had a rare form of neuralgia which was a major surgery. I recently had occipital neuralgia surgery which involves incision in the back of my head from the base of my spine up to the middle of my head and what day did was my dr. basically took nerves that were being interrupted and separated and surrounded them with fatty tissue. So far, from having bad headaches almost every day, to really having nothing to this point. I'm five weeks post op. (Occipital nerve Decompression) Mass. General Hospital, Boston Mass.

@@TJS11420 I’m about 7-8 months post op and things have improved dramatically. At first it was quite rough the recovery was slow and the results weren’t as quick as the drs/surgeon predicted but around month 5 is when things really took a turn for the better.

@@user-lr2ez4ny2z were you diagnosed with NDPH? and did you have 24/7 pain with no pain free periods? Did other places besides your occipital area (back of head) hurt ? or did your entire head hurt? I look forward to your answer :)
