08:55, forget the rev counter! My Beetle Type 1s had none.. You can tell if a clutch is good if an engine stalls when attempting to move from rest with second gear engaged. If it doesn't stall when engaged in third gear, the clutch is 'definitely' worn and needs immediate replacement.

yeah, I tried looking again this year. same costs as when I got a used evo8 in 07'. but now fewer of them, waaay more modified ones you can't smog & getting OE parts is tougher with less dealers in the states now (online & aftermarket support is strong). this year I got an 06' 350z enthusiast for 6k OTD. short term finance even, will pay off quick, fun enough to drive. sometimes you gotta step back for perspective & see if it makes sense (which it doesn't) cars are a loosing investment over time/miles.

I actually work at a Mitsubishi dealer right now Art Moran. The biggest issue with these cars is the transmission and drive train, specifically the front differential witch is a viscous differential meaning you cannot fix it have to buy a whole new one if it breaks. When it does it usually also means you have to do a AYC pump as well (pumps fluid into limited slip diffs to allow the awd system to change wheel speeds, technically these are transmissions because they do slip in and out using the AYC pump like a automatic trans would but do not completely slip out as all it does is change the speeds of all 4 wheels to allow maximum attack). Many cars we resell that are evos have been boosted and abused and usually in a mileage between 40,000-60,000 and we end up doing $10,000 worthof repairs. The manuals need a new clutch every 15,000 along with trans flush, automatic trans only last 60,000-80,000 that's if you do the trans flush every 15,000 and then they blow up. Do not push over 500hp on any evo unless you spend the money on the clutch, trans, diffs, and upgraded ayc pump. The better parts of the cars are the engines fyou want to make power, spend the money on the drive line or just keep it stock. Most of the stuff ive learned is from being a tech assist with both of the Techs there doing electrical and heavy tech work. Best bets for anyone wanting an evo BUY AN EVO 8 AND REBUILD IT

I bought my lightning yellow 2005 Evo 8 new and still have it to this day. I only have 26K miles and it still smells brand new and the paint is still glossy. If I ever sell it I’ll be asking for top dollar

I had to pay an extra $6K for mine. They would only give me $16K for it and it was $22K in mint condition. Well worth it. Though at 700whp it's needing a new clutch and trans refresh. That's just one thing among the maintinence like you said. Spend probably $200 every couple months on oil, plugs, fluids...etc.

But overall these are very overpriced(which is obviously) you’re not buying an evo for luxury, it’s not an is300 😂. And plus with the evos fast and furious (at least with the 8 and 9) is what made them what they are today.
