My tech school was Keesler. All of your military training plus a couple of classes will get you an associate's degree from CCAF for your AFSC as well as most of it applying for any four year degree plan you may also be taking. The tech school phase program is there to help you transition smoothly from "robo-trainee" to normal Air Force member. I was only there for 13 weeks and made it to third phase. My roommate was "Eternal Warfare" (Electronic Warfare). His tech school was almost two years long so he was in "fourth phase" which is basically little to no restrictions. At Keesler all of the trainees are in "The Triangle". This is a part of the base that is dedicated to the trainees. Permanent party military were not allowed in "The Triangle" unless they had business there. We had our own movie theater, shoppette, AAFES mall, chapel and fast food there in "The Triangle" and everything was within walking distance from the dorms. For mail, we had basically a PO box with a combination lock. Letters would be put in your box and if you had packages, they would put a numbered slip of paper in your box and you would just got to the mail room window to get your packages. I don't remember having to "report" for mail. That might just be a thing at Ft. Meade (was stationed there for seven years). CQ stands for "Charge of Quarters". Never had to do CQ. The only detail I ever had to do was dorm guard. We had coed floors but a floor was basically a day room off of the stairwell/entrance with a hallway to the left and a hallway to the right. On coed floors, one hallway was male and one hallway was female. Males were not allowed in the female hallway and vise versa. I think our travel radius in third phase and later was 150 miles. We drove to New Orleans multiple times because one of my classmates was in the Louisiana Air Guard and was from New Orleans. When I was in tech school, 341's could also be pulled for excellence. We were up at 0500 for formation (A-shift) to march from the squadrons to the classroom buildings. For A-shift we were in class from 0600-1530 M-F.

Tech school was awesome! My first school was at Keesler. Wicked cool. My second was well over a year long. Boom school was super cool. However, just like high school and BMT, you get out of it what you put into it. Look up the USO. You show your ID to get in. Follow the rules. We dropped a bunch of people for being stupid. Never forget to have fun, be safe, and study. Have a great career because it flies by. Thanks for joining and fighting for us.

Its just occurred to me... The Air Force is like a 4 year job interview. It can be stressful because you dont know what might be coming, or asked of you. You do know it will end at a certain point. but everything in between.. is generally uncertainty. If you know this going in... USE the Air Force. get a good job skill that you can use on the outside. Staying past 4 years is a mistake. The military asks you sign a 4 year contract, because they know they can not keep good people without that threat. So, go in for 4 years, collect all that you can, and drop the Air Force like a hot rock.

Right mate. I was a civil engineer. Heavy equipment. In basic, they wanted me(my instructors) to be a drill instructor. Long story. But I was looking forward. Luckily for us, my R&D on several projects, made us better off. Like EPA friendly deicing fluid? Potassium Acetate an water. Did the testing for that. Eliminated Urea and alcohol 1991 if I remember correctly. I did more important things than being an instructor. In tech school, I stored and sold food late night for profit. Back then, no delivery. Just a hot dog, sausage, Ramen, or candy bar, 3 dollars. Bank. 1989. Supply and demand then.

I am not sure if its still a thing but there is also AFI(awaiting further instructions). There are many causes of it as failing a class, ending a class before the next one starts, failing out all together, and a few more. This happens more in large squadrons and longer schooling. This is where a lot of the duties took place at my school at Keesler. We also had enough females that they had there own hall which no male outside of MTL or on duty could enter and its announced that a male was entering the hall in case you had your door open you could close it before they crossed it. Last thing is some schools the uniform of the day changes depending on what your course work looks like. During theory work it was blues at least a few days. If it was hands on all days were in the utility uniform.

Some comparisons with my own equivalent experience during my initial military service back in...1975! US Army, advanced training was for military intel analyst at Ft. Huachuca AZ. Had around a 10-day gap by default/class scheduling between BMT graduation day and initial report to 'Hoochie-coo'. Flew home from St. Louis (via bus from BMT base) to Chicago for a defacto leave first, had to book own ticket from Chicago to Tucson, no traveling with any other service members as a group. Was picked up at Tucson airport by a van dispatched from the post for transport back. Reported in uniform on a Saturday, was assigned to a to a transient room at first, shortly later to a 3-man room in an air-conditioned barracks (roommates were also classmates), quite a bit 'cozier' than the more open 6-man bays in non-AC'd barracks at BMT. Had no civilian clothes with, which were otherwise allowed off-duty at the post from the get-go. I had expected to encounter BMT-style DI-s upon my arrival, but there were none, instead quite casual and passive reception by the CQ (Charge of Quarters) barracks personnel on duty. No DI-s per se at all, just training school Company cadre NCOs/officers in charge at morning & late afternoon formations. And, of course, the training staff in class. Quite a change from environment at BMT. Eventually I did get some civvies, though. Was there for around 2 months. Roommates did not make it thru the class, unfortunately. (in which case, one was then reassigned to the infantry branch w/no choice of duty station option as in initial enlistment/signup.) Went on to a memorable assignment with 10th SFGA at Ft. Devens MA (since relocated to Ft. Carson CO when Devens closed as active post in 1996.) Note: more comparisons as I remember available if you are interested.

I taught aircraft maintenance at Chanute AFB Illinois. The course was 12 weeks long, broken down into four blocks. I taught the final block. My pet leave was eliminating bad students, that should never have made it to block four. Block four was actual hands on training, putting everything they learned previously to use. I tried to make the training fun, while teaching them safety, and safely.

Excellent video! I served a tour as a tech school instructor at Chanute, 1981 to 1986, and back then, it was way WAY too casual, and there were lots of problems associated with that, mostly with drinking. There were actually beer vending machines in the student dormitories, can you imagine that??! During the last years I was there, they got more serious about stopping the alcohol consumption, which was a big step in the right direction. Love your media!

My tech school was 2 phases and 8 total months. Phase 2 was way more relaxed than phase 1. 1 was still really rigid. We also marched everywhere during duty. PT was 4:45am. Phase 2 I had my own room but shared a bathroom. No mandatory PT as long as we passed our tests but we still went to the gym anyway. I didn’t gain weight until I was out of tech school and 2 years of active duty 😂

Prior 2A2, best advice is get through each module/week, a week at a time. Don't get hard on yourself if you can't recall things all the time. The real learning starts at your base, tech school you just need to pass, on time.

@Alex-hm7nt
@Alex-hm7nt Жыл бұрын
@gezgingokhan when I was in (2012 - 2017), each week was a new subject then you had a test. I think you got 1 retry and if you failed you were recycled back another week or so (meaning whatever class is coming up next, youre with them now. It happened to me once in the very beginning). If you fail THAT time, then you'll either get reclassed into another job or sent home. You just have to retain for a week, dump it and absorb the next thing. Pass to graduate, then relearn/reinforce whatever you remember at your first base.

But my tech school was at keesler it was self paced but the instructors were pushing just read the stuff and take the test, dont take so much notes.. go go go.. ended up only there for 2 weeks. i think it was estimated 4 weeks. But.. the cloths i wore to basic waas enough for the 1 or 2 times i went off base. You dont get to go off base in early phases.

I went to Tech School at Lowry AFB, Denver, Colo. (Now closed). Out the main gate and you're in the City. One of the best Photographic Schools in the World. Our classes were in 2 week blocks. Length of School was 26 weeks. While we waited for our class to start we had to pull KP. No problem because at night we took watermelons, frozen pies, and other goodies back to the barracks. The main thing was study hard and don't get set back. Our T.I. had a thing. If we did better on our block tests than a certain other class, he would take us to the NCO club for a steak dinner! Steak and Beer! Big fun! We could go off base as long as we were on time for class the next day. Only thing I can suggest to new Airmen is.. Always be a "crack trooper" and be best at your job. If you do you will be noticed and have a great reputation. Your Captain will notice you. The first Sargent will notice and the Squadron Commander will notice. You will find that you will be able to do just about anything you want. Go to advanced Tech Schools, drive your car and get mileage pay. Go on exciting T.D.Y's etc. Of course realize this was a long time ago. I have no clue how things have changed. I spent 8 years in the Air Force. The best times of my life.

Oh, my God--CQ! I haven't thought about that in YEARS! In my era--back in the Stone Age, heh!--instructors served CQ during the weekends and we had 12-hour shifts and we had two student-assistants help, usually green or yellow ropes, and we had to do fire protection walks and call the cops all the time on the many, many, MANY drunk people who would be causing problems nonstop. Back then, the drinking age was 18, so it was legal for almost everyone to drink, and it was nothing but problems, problems, problems, and lots of people got kicked out right away for doing stupid things while drinking. I was doing weekend CQ about one weekend out of four once I made SrA, and if I managed to get all the way though my shift without getting puked on by a drunk person, I considered that a success! We also did not use 341s in tech school when I was there, but it would have been a good idea. Love your media!

Can we vape in our rooms & tech school or anywhere where we have approval? 😂 I leave for BMT soon and I’m trying to stop but hopefully I can pick it back up in the future

You can’t vape inside but there’s a “smoke pit” outside of the dorms where you can smoke or vape. Usually a gazebo or picnic tables but most people refer to it as the “smoke pit” lol

Do you get paid a lot in tech school?
@raspberrybitch4299

You get paid by your rank. So... Kinda? You get a decent chunk of money twice a month, and essentially all of your needs are provided for free by the AF. Buuuut... If you have shitty spending habits, your E1-3 pay will evaporate VERY quickly. You're brand new to the AF, you're not rich. As long as you remember that, you'll always have enough money to save and also to splurge.

Are you allowed your phone in tech school? I had a recruiter lie and tell me things that were too good to be true.
