It was mine too, but then I rewatched Hill House and Bly with my mom and those two just hit home because of the heavy family focused element. I'd also say that every thing he has done except for the cancer movie, has been my shared number one 😅 PS. Bly is so underrated, even I underrated it for a long time. It is insane how deep and profound that script is.

I didn't love all of it, but THREE episodes in a row were some of the best horror I've ever seen. The twins and the one shot episodes were incredible. After those, I was like "okay. I'll give Dr. Sleep a watch. He's worthy of attempting King/Kubrick."

@@wespapes2054That's what's weird to me about it. It's not like Chris is lying about how much he enjoyed movies he watched - he just doesn't review a movie if his opinion was negative. In a space so dominated by constant angry voices, is wanting to upload mainly positive content really a crime?
@wespapes205428 күн бұрын
@@AgentMS that to me is so odd. Do these people just want EVERYONE to be angry forever? Not everyone can be angry all the time. It's not healthy for the human body. Besides, Chris' review was so vicious without being truly vicious.

Flanagan has done some really solid work when it comes to horror/suspense. I thought 'Doctor Sleep' was done about as well as anyone could have possibly hoped for considering how fiercely loyal some fans of 'The Shining' are and the fact that it's a modern sequel to a 40 year old movie. Loved Rebecca Ferguson in that, too. And I also really enjoyed 'Hush'. I thought it had a unique take on the whole home invasion genre. And then there are works like 'Oculus', 'The Haunting of Hill House', etc. It feels like he has been around FOREVER and has his fingerprints on everything that has horror elements to it. And to top it all off he also sounds like a legitimately good guy. I wasn't too excited about anything after 'Exorcist: Believer', but now that it sounds like Flanagan will be helming that project...I'm sold.

My wife is a photographer and incidentally ive picked up on it because of her. Every single shoot, we learn something new. It could be, things we want to add to a contract to protect ourselves. It could be a cool new pose that flatters different body types. It could be marketing ideas. Theres so much involved with creating your own creative product, u can never know enough.

Great interview! My one “criticism” (pun intended), was I felt Flanagan was overly harsh and critical of those who criticize a film, and their motives for doing so. To assume it’s just for an endorphin rush of feeling superior seems extremely dismissive. I also wish Chris had followed up the line of questioning with whether Flanagan respects film criticism. It was clear however from that opinion why Chris stopped filming negative reviews.

I think film criticism as a filmmaker is probably a personality and ethics-based thing, rather than some of the stuff Mike addressed. Quinten Tarantino critiqued natural-born killers, especially the casting of Woody Harrelson. He obviously offended the director and that probably resulted in vitriol. You could be in a profession where making something is hard but it doesn't mean you still can't judge the end result of that difficult process. Products have many moving pieces so the failure could be because of other factors, bad marketing, budget cuts cuz a major star pulled out of the project, the producers having the final say on the script or selecting the worst version? If a competent plumber sees shoddy work, even if it's hard, he will still call it out.
