Mike Malaska is a golf teacher out of Superstition Moutain, Arizona. I got the chance to spend the day with him with filming "The Source of Power" Link below.
Mike is also a very accomplished golfer. He's played in US Opens and PGA tour events and remains competitive today.
The way he swings and teaches is all about directing momentum.

Great swing. Its exactly what Mike is preaching. The Malaska move in perfection. I do it.I love it. Golf is now like riding a bike. the swing is a feel a motion. Once you got it, you can repeat it everytime. It cant be so easy? Yes it is..

Michael, just like you said, what you feel and what actually happened are not the same. You feel your hands are not turning, but anatomical, they are turning. They are. You are just not making them turn over MORE on uptake and follow through. Turning MORE, might be more powerful, but timing to hit square at impact might be dicier. But it certainly is more powerful . But between more control and more powerful, I would take more control. But your hands and wrists are certainly flipping over anatomically, by slow motion review. Though you might not FEEL they are “flipping “ (word convey extra effort to do this flip) They are definitely turning over.

The clubhead is behind his hands on the downswing. Only when the club is parallel to the ground does the clubhead get in front of his hands. But in every one of his videos he advocates tipping the clubhead in front of the hands on the downswing initiation. So is his swing off here? Thanks!

Just watched his video about Joe Nichols who talked about the corners and pivot points in the golf swing, in that video he talks about the clubhead crossing his hands when his forearms are parallel to the ground, at this point he actually says to stand the club up perpendicular to the ground.

Get ahead of it and flip it. Look at the right elbow above the left arm in the downswing.

Loses lag tension right before impact... now i know Mike had a stroke a few years back so this might have something to do with the lack of lag tension at impact. That being said Mike is a great guy who knows a ton about the golf swing!

Great swing, but but is it me ? There’s just nothing absolutely nothing to resemble what he teaches as in the hands down and club out to ball .. just looks like any normal swing.

Hi Brendon The swing that you choose at 0:26 does not help Mr Malaska too look good, at address the ball is at is left ear and at impact 0:37 the ball is at is right ear, is head as move at least 8 to 10 inches forward. Sorry have a nice day.

I have to have a good swing to have an opinion about a man's swing who charges $300 for an hour lesson? Taught pros? is purporting that his body mechanics are sound? and allowed Brendon to post it on a public platform? With that out of the way, I'll answer your question. While I believe there are multiple problematic things in his swing, the major issue is his release of the club. Might be why he had an average career both on the PGA and Champions Tour. He is flipping and rolling his hands through the strike. This is manageable for a lower swing speed, but at 120 ish mph do you think Dustin Johnson could hit the ball as straight as he does with this release? Or even look at Zach Johnson's release. Malaska coached him. They look nothing alike. Yet Zach Johnson has won two majors. I'll also qualify my statement here and say this is no way an attack on him as a person. He seems like a stand-up, genuine dude. My point is that there are a lot of ways to hit the golf ball. This looks sub-optimal to me.

Any golf instructors you like on KZfaq? I'm just curious. I am a beginner and with so many online it's difficult to know who is giving good instruction. Thanks!

Wasatch Golf Academy High speed video with a good shutter doesn't lie. The best players on tour don't use their hands like he does unless their hitting little chips or pitches around the green.

No lag tension in this swing and the release isn’t very stable 🤔
