Can confirm this works without having to import the video directly into Audition. If you have the video in Premiere, you can right click and edit in Audition. Same outcome. :) This is a GOD TIER TUTORIAL, BTW! Thank you!

Please be aware that Audition only edits the audio, using this with a Premiere Pro sequence is likely to leave you audio and video out of sync.

Checkout Descript. It's a very different editing experience - transcription-focused, but it has the "Shorten Word Gap" tool for multiple checks. You combine the tracks into a single parent sequence, which preserves the individual tracks, and then the shorten gap tool is run on the parent sequence. It's not perfect at this stage, as it seems to cut more than you might intend, such as laughs or when the transcription process can't recognize the words, but they're working to improve that. The real golden tool, I find, is their 'filler word' remover. You can select from 20 words such as "um", "uh", "like, etc, and it works very well. You can also edit the audio by cutting words in the transcription, which is strange, but very powerful as you begin to use it. PS - I don't work for them. Just started using their tools for our podcast and am excited about the possibilities. Cheers!

The easiest way would be to export your audio to Audition using dynamic link and follow the procedure above. Be aware however that Audition only edits the audio, not the video.

Hi Fran, in Premier Pro you can send you audio to Audition to edit and apply this in Audition. When you save the audio in your Premier Pro project will be updated.

All the FAQs and tutorials I see seem to only mention audio tracks in relation to video and export to video platforms like DaVinci and Premiere.

Hi Mike, as usual awesome information... now... any trick similar to this one but... that makes all the silences have the same duration? i.e. Silence 1 = 750ms / Silence 2 = 1244ms / Silence 3 = 420ms and so on... is there any "automatic" way to make all the silences of 500ms? Thanks in advance...

this is very good information but I have a problem. my clip is 20 mins long and the delete silence scanning only detect the last 5 mins of the clip, there are many obvious silent in first 15 mins undetected

Hey Mike, I know this is an older post, but is it possible to do something like this for a full multi-track session? As in, four separate dialog tracks, but if there's a long pause in all of them at the same time shorten it? And follow-up question, how long should you allow pauses to be in a multi-person recording before they start sounding unnatural?

This is awesome. Is there a way to apply it in multitrack to portions of clips? E.g. I have a podcast where I am interviewing people. I can't just strip out the silence for each track because the conversation won't line up and that would take more work to fix. But it would be useful to take whole segments of the conversation and reduce the silences. Alternately, is there a way to split the tracks into pieces by removing the silences but keeping the vox where they are in the timeline? Then, I could simply shift the pieces as needed to maintain the conversation flow but not spend so much time manually trimming the silence.

Unfortunately you cannot use this method in the multi track so you'd need to do it with all the relevant tracks before you put them in the multi track session file.

Adobe Dynamic link is great but you need to do your video edits before your audio edits so you’re not changing the duration of your audio as the audio syncs back exactly as you cut it.

Adobe Audition does not touch the video, only the Audio so you will find by using this that the audio and video will no longer be in sync.

I've tried doing this, and while sometimes it is effective, other times it'll take a clip that is over 1 minute in length and very clearly has audio in it. Any idea why this happens, and how to fix it?

You can always export your audio to Audition, edit it there and then when you save you'll get it back in Premiere edited!

Check the settings for the silence to detect and the length to replace with and adjust these to make it sound more natural.

❗I really want advice on how to send voice and video together to Audition in order to create a cut to remove silence. If there is such an option with several videos at once or each one needs to be processed separately. How can I do it directly from the Premiere timeline (I know only with sound there is such a possibility, but again, only with one). An important question is how to add several at once and process them. After all, there can be hundreds of files in a project. Thanks.

This is an Audition feature which only will alter the audio meaning that the audio and video will become out of sync.

I believe you would edit for major issues then mix it down to one session and then proceed to find silence One thing I would like to add is that if you get your silence to less than 100ms and it still sounds odd try the digital drop option below the delete long silence

Hi, you can run the process on the two voices in the waveform and the silences will be gone in the multi track
