Reassurance that Thom returns, and in a very exciting manner. Plus Noal becomes a personal favorite here, can't say more... And just wait for the final book. Perrin, Mat, Egwene, and... well so many great character moments in the final book, the payoffs make so much of the slog worth it! And I'm still strongly urging you to read New Spring BEFORE you finish the series, probably right after Winters Heart. It's short, I'd think it'd only take a couple of days to knock out. Edit: Just adding some thought about the Aes Sedai divide. The resolution is coming. It's initially somewhat unexpected and might feel like a bit of a step back, but don't lose faith at the point! You'll (probably) like where it ends up at, and have a (gotta watch my phrasing here, spoilers) surprising reaction to a... certain main character... Gah! Can't say more, I'll leave it at that...

Perrin is my favorite character in the series, and I agree that his character arc does stagnate a little. However, he will always be my favorite character in large part because of his personality and values. I always felt like Perrin was the character who places the biggest emphasis on caring for the people around him and doing what is right rather than just using them as tools.

So, so true! I'm only on book 1o, but this will never change for me, whatever happens next. In the first books, he was so amazing...then goes missing for a whole book, gosh I was angry! The only thing is, he deserved so much better than Faile. Because she, has no quirks about using people, him included. I get the cultural difference etc, to explain their relationship; yet this is so not for calm and empathetic Perrin. I feel Berelain truly loved him, and loved him better than Faile.

I think this is a good book and does have the best ending of the series. In universe, only the Last Battle is larger in terms of effect on the world. Really the only book in the series that bad is the next one, Crossroads of Twilight. Well, I was hooked on the books at book 3/4 so went through them all easily. I think in some ways time and illness were more and more causing a feeling that he wanted to tell everything in his head, in combination with time restraints on editing. Rereading I often skip a lot of this.

@@mikesbookreviews I skimmed the subplot stuff first time round so much that on a recent reread there were entire sections of book I had no memory of. Even some deaths and shocks I missed completely! (note: this did not stop me from enjoying the final 4 books in the slightest). It was actually interesting stuff from a world building, mystery or character building sense but as a pacing sense when you wanna know what is happening to your [insert favourite character in here] sense it is extremely frustrating. it is rough as a first time reader... but my advice; enjoy the good bits of WH, skim a lot through CoT but make sure you stop and prepare yourself for the final few pages of CoT and the next book.... as those shivers will return :)

@@mikesbookreviews the reason it's the "slough" is because he kinda got lost in the story at this part of the series his wife the awsome woman bof the series failed at thre editor part if keeping him focused on key elements. The hate for elyane, faile and egwene comes from the slough. The actual main plots get place on hold for his political dives in egwene and elyane plots. The perrin plot does not get back to its course *note pre plotted by Jordan till the Sanderson books.* Book 8 and 9 you get the feeling should have been a single entry it just got lost. Sorry about the crickets. Even though I know H.P. Love Craft has influenced writers such as King I've never been into him. I have kept track of your videos though. The other thing is that I have been reading for some time now a book called Black Leopard Red Wolf. It's not an easy read. Also in terms of criticisms/backlash you received for the last book I don't know why that is since most that have read the series agreed that book 8 was filler and debates that 8,9,& 10 are slogs. Also I warned you to be prepared to be disappointed concerning Perrin. See Nae'Blis concerning character power rankings "Lan shows up." It's kind of like those dragons in GOT isn't it? PS when will you have some time to read my novel? it's short! If I did my job right a fairly quick and easy read. I really want to see if the Dresden comparisons are true

The Shaido suck. I can’t remember if it was over in WH, because the slog just blurs together lol. I do think there’s a kind of interesting moment with Morgase, however. I hate Egwene and Cadsuane omg. I actually really like Elayne, and Nynaeve is my favorite. For Lan, Perrin, Thom, and Mat, I say patience! The Aes Sedai are all pretty similar because they’ve been indoctrinated to be that way. Remember, a lot of them are already over 100yrs old, and they’re stuck in their ways.

@RiseeRee
@RiseeRee 4 жыл бұрын
William Jones it’s strange though because in my first read through, Egwene was actually my favorite character...I almost shudder to think of it lol! My second read through I started disliking her, and it probably got worse each subsequent read through. Honestly I think it’s because the story and the world is so overwhelmingly massive, it’s easy to see the cool things Egwene DOES and think she’s amazing, but after a while you realize how she IS, and you think she’s an awful human being/friend. The story around her disillusions you as well; constantly telling us how smart she is, how great she is, but her actions actually tell a different story. Cadsuane I never liked though. She’s just needlessly rude. Idk why anyone even listens to her, except the other Aes Sedai because of their stupid customs.

@@RiseeRee I like you I liked Egwene at first. However as a story progressed and she became" The Amyrln" unchecked I couldn't stand her. She really needed to be checked. I understood she had to maintain the position of the seat. However behind closed doors should have been an entirely different story. It was one of the reasons I could not stand Galad. +[Mike's Book Review] It all depends on who you are as a reader, to be honest. Some people like a palette cleanser after the downturn of Books 8-10, and there are some ....plot-related reasons why reading _New Spring_ in between CoT and KoD might fit fairly well. Others, like +[Auron200004] here, don't want to "pull out" of the story if they've already been "pulled out" somewhat by the (perceived or real) lesser quality of the story. Personally, I'd wait until you finish _Crossroads of Twilight_ and then decide if you want to take a break and read _New Spring_ instead, or if you want to get right back to the "good stuff", which the Prologue to _Knife of Daggers_ certainly qualifies as (as many fans like to say: more happens in the Prologue to KoD than happens in the entirety of CoT).
