Good luck. It’s gonna take millions of dollars just to get him through the juniors. So if you don’t have that, better start looking for some serious sponsors. The only other way is to hope he already has talent, and then put it on countless hours on the track. When his friends are playing outside, he’s gonna have to be on the track. If he’s head and shoulders above everyone in his age group, the big teams will put him in their junior program and you won’t have to worry about finances too much. But for that to happen, he has to have like generational talent potential.

Just keep him motivated to stay passionate. I’m sure if he has a good father like yourself as a support system he will earn his sponsors and opportunities will present themselves on their own. A lot of lost talent lost along the way because we didn’t have our loved ones to support us.

Hit right on the money. But one thing people always forget is, as low as $360k is, you never know when that next big fight is. That pay day might be the last payday you’ll ever get especially if you lose. As a decorated amateur, I struggle with this aspect in the pros. The work we put in you get nothing out. 360k for a fight (which takes YEARS before you’ll ever come close to getting a fight like this) is not enough money to retire on or live off.

You know, I read your comment with interest because you do sound very reasonable. For the longest I'd been wondering this myself. I look at the guys in the ring, especially those who fight up to 3 times a year, and I am wondering how much money they're making. I even go googling to see what they were paid, and I start doing a rough calculation in my mind to see what they would take home in the end. It is good to hear this from a person that has lived this life and knows the things that I did not take into consideration. Thanks for your input. Hello from London-Ontario, Canada

That's why the key is to invest it into your future. Like Mikey said pick up a trade. Take a business class. And become your own boss. Then you don't have to worry about retirement. @@etimsammost boxers don't make alot money and like Mikey said if you get a million dollar fight after expenses you are not left with a whole lot. I have a friend that is pro boxer he is actually fights for Brian McIntyre aka Bo mac and terrence crawford. 9-0 and he makes about 7 -10 grand a fight. It's not alot at all. But he's very young still. But boxing is very risky because he might never see that life changing money.

Not very often does one get the opportunity to speak to people that really know what they are talking about like you. Very informative to watch this video, and to communicate with people like you. If the guy you talked about only has 9 fights on his record I would think that making up to $10,000 per fight would be good money, depending how many times he gets to fight per year. And if his expenses are low he would do well especially if he lives home with mom and dad.@@yodaddy9362

He has entertained coming back I thibk maybe 2 years ago now and prior to that he was saying that he was definitely done with boxing and it seems like he is done done. Do I still think he has it? Yes. All he has to do is train his ass off. A fight against Loma or Tank at 140 is still possible if Mikey wanted it. On the flip side since he has already done a lot for the sport I cannot blame him at all.

For a young man he has the outlook of a man with much more life experience. Decades ago I read that Marvin Hagler hired an acountant/money manager early in his career that invested his winnings wisely, paid Hagler a salary that would make him comfortable but not extravagent with longevity in mind.
