He sounded pleased for Kerr, to be honest. Imagine holding a record for 39 years? You can't blane the man to acknowkedge its loss. Cram was a great runner. His time, lest people forget, was set in a race with uneven splits and 39 years ago without the advantages of today's shoe technology. He also slowed down in the last few yards having destroyed the field in the last 200m. Hats off to Kerr though for a brilliant victory and a great run from Ingerbrigtsen, too.

@@samhardy6319lest people forget?... dude hes not dead. and you cant extrapolate for shoes and tracks without acknowledging that most athletes used PEDs at least in off seasons back then. many just tapered from oils/orals to waters then off for a few days prior to comps back then, and many comps werent even tested so at times they used right up to the day. not hating, just saying how it was. Cram may have been completely drug free- who knows?

World Best Performance for Cameron Myers - smashed Jakob's previous age 17 worlds best. Jakob ran 3:52.26 and Myers ran 3:50.15 here... Edit: arguably Jakob's mile record was a bit on the soft side considering he ran a 3:31 1500m at age 17..Myers will be 18 by the next time he runs a 1500m (unless he's registered for Oslo (?)) (hes not listed for Stockholm).and Jakob ran a low 3:30 at age 18... i think we can all say that Myers is neck and neck with what Jakob was doing...the 1500m is stacked right now..

Is there a lot of air resistance/slip streaming in running? I don't get why it's 'tactical' unless slip streaming is important.
@Gallywomack
@Gallywomack 21 күн бұрын
Yes there is. Not as much as in cycling but it's still a factor. This is an oversimplification but the tactics lie in choosing whether to front run, in the hope of running the legs off weaker opponents - but risking towing a runner with a stronger kick round and losing the final sprint - or letting someone else set the pace and relying on a decent kick to win. In this race, Kerr made the tactical choice to take the front with 600 to go, to keep the pace high, confident that he had the strength and finishing speed to hold off any challengers in the final straight. But potentially a fitter Ingebritsen could have out-kicked him on another night, so it was a brave move.

Shame about Kessler for sure. All I will say is that for a season opener and rust buster, Jakob ran an awesome race. If that is how close he is when he is just getting his racing legs back, I would say that Kerr should be a bit worried.

Yes, as everyone said, he was a "pacer". But note well: at the Olympics, ALL athletes must go through qualifying Heats, Semis, then the Final. So, NO PACERS. (Unless a Country has managed to get more than one runner into the Final and one agrees to sacrifice themselves to be an unofficial pacer to best help their Countryman. eg. In Championship races that required qualifying heats, often the great Hicham El Guerrouj, current WR holder in Mile, would have a fellow Countryman pace him to ensure the race was fast which served Hicham best) But in normal Championship races, not having pacemakers results in having a tactical race, often referred to as a "Sit... and sprint". In most cases, with middle and long distance Track races, the times are not "fast" as no one wants to sacrifice themselves to be a pacer that everyone sits on. Often then the person with the best "finishing kick", wins. Cheers.
