What makes you think the 1500 is the 2nd most important event right now? That seems a strange claim to make when there is no threat of the world record falling.

@@sandman1347 there’s even less of a chance of the 100m record falling. Jakob ran the 3rd fastest mile time ever last year, yet Noah has not touched 9.7. So by your logic the 1500m is way more exciting

@@ovah8784 The 100 has ALWAYS been the marquee track race. Other distances only enter the conversation when there is a historic performer (like when Mo Salah competed in the 5k/10k or when Michael Johnson did the 200/400. Honestly Jakob has been disproportionately hyped up IMO. Especially for a guy who is currently second best at his main race distance. And for the record, the 200 is far more interesting than the 1500 right now.
@ovah8784
@ovah8784 Ай бұрын
@@sandman1347 Except, like you said, the only thing that makes the events exciting is if there is a threat of the world record falling. The 1500m has a threat from falling from Yared and Jakob, MAYBE even Kerr if he continues to improve. The only person who is even threatening in the 200 is Lyles, so I can agree that it’s more exciting then the 100 but I’d say it’s on par with the excitement of the 1500

Not defending anyone here but a question to consider is maybe his attitude (whether liked or not) is the reason he has been so dominant in the past years, he fully believes in himself and that is not easy to find. Wether people like him or not is another story but the guy has a serious record and won’t be easy to beat I think most are agreeing with that. Just some food for thought, like him or hate him, the way he thinks most definitely plays a role in his personal success.

He’s absolutely incredibly arrogant. All of his statements are in service to his perceived superiority. It’s part of what makes him great. And it’s also what makes him a prick who is incredibly unlikable as a person. He never gives actual real credit to anyone else. He always finds a way to make himself look good. Watch his body language. He’s even disrespectful to those questioning him, but does it in a fake polite way. As a person he’s a gigantic a hole. As a competitor he’s great and I enjoy watching him, but I will never like him. The more I watch the more I feel this way. I’ve seen him at Hayward for as long as he’s been competing there. And the more I watch his interviews and the excuses he makes when he loses the less I respect him as a person. Hard not to respect him as a competitor though. There are lots of successful jerks in this world and he’s in the hall of fame for that.

A very fast and impressive run by Jacob, coming back from injury. Certainly if he improves his fitness 1-2 percent in the next 2 months he will be very well positioned to win, even double, in Paris. But it is not a stupid question about whether he is reconsidering his racing tactics. There is a real physical penalty for leading versus drafting, like a half per lap second. Yes he wins like 18 out of 20, but he was outkicked in the last two championship finals, so it's a valid consideration. If he has one slight weakness (aside from his stubbornly predictable race tactics) it seems to be a top gear to kick hard in the last 100m of a fast 15 vs Kerr or Wightmen. He chases them to the line but doesn't seem to have the top gear. Ok, small sample size, maybe he was sick both times. This is unknowable. We'll get our answer in Paris.

It's well known that these Brits figured out how to beat him. They're not just fit enough to pull it off. They know he doesn't have the kick. In order to beat them he needs two things. 1. He needs to be the fittest. And 2., the race needs to be fast so they can't out kick him at the end. So considering this, yeah totally. He needs to probably think about this in terms of recent events rather than a statistical whole.

Because Jacob is a bit stronger than Kerr on those distanses unless it ends up with a sprint for the finish. Find anybody else that will do that. He has had little competion when it really matters, and when he loses, the world is shocked. @@anodyne57 I mean he's obviously better than his nearest competition but to front run when he claims to be ill? That makes no sense so either he's not ill or he's judged the strategy poorly in those circumstances. There are very few people who can just run away from a field because they are that much better. Maybe he can but he very nearly lost the Diamond league in Oslo running the same tactics and if the margins are fine, you are undoubtedly making it hard to win as the last 2 WCs have shown.

He ran 3:45 low after 8 months of non racing and also coming off an injury. He is very well positioned for the gold. Those are facts
