I kind of miss living like that. Real simple, only enough junk that will fit in your 5x5 whack shack. For meals just walk over to the DFAC and eat whatever they’re serving. Knowing it’s only temporary is what makes it feel okay to just roll with having so few freedoms.

I was at KAF 2003-04. We lived in a tent, it had a/c, cots, plywood floor. When it rained, land mines would wash up thru the mud on the base. There was no concrete barriers. The boardwalk was added in spring 2004. I was infantry, so we never stayed at the base very long. Always on missions outside the wire. 10th MTN DIV. 🇺🇸

Charlemagne There was an event that occurred when the gulf war was just starting off and in full swing. The government issued pills to fight malaria, however were absolutely awful for the people taking them. Incredibly vivid and lucid dreams, sleepwalking, mental health issues. And it was mandatory to take. Worst part is, the pill wasn’t even created to fight the strain of malaria in Iraq, making it completely pointless, wasteful, and detrimental to health. So that’s where the “don’t take the malaria pill” thing comes from
