Guildou Italy joined the allies in ww1. And Austria Hungary was a joke at the point. Russia was pretty backwards as well but it had manpower. Plus Britain and France were huge colonial empires with a lot of resources. A-H had nothing. Germany only had a meagre amount. The ottomans also joined central powers later on but they were the sick man of Europe. Plus the arabs joined Britain’s side and fought turkey. So in fact the odds were against Germany. In a long term attritional war Germany could not win. If it’s plans had worked better and has better luck it could have ended the war earlier. The lack of resources and the British naval blockade forced Germany to surrender. WW2 Germany was up against huge odds as well. Italy was a better ally but it was still not very good. Japan was strong but brought America into the war. But Germany crushed the allies at the start. The lack of resources made the war unsustainable and then Hitler was already seen as a warmonger and he was not a good negotiator and then he was not trusted either. But Germany was destroyed after ww1, with harsh treaties. Yet Germany rose to be so strong. Yes France was not the laughing stock like the memes but then Germany was still stronger than France by quite a bit. In a 1v1 Germany would beat France. Edit: Yeah France destroyed hre but then it doesn’t mean that it was stronger than the German empire. Plus Napoleon was a god.

The Capetians are surely one of the most influential dynasties in all of history, reigning from Tierra del Fuego to the fields of Lithuania, from Quebec to the city of Constantine. They have a legacy that is as prestigious as the Habsburgs, Hanoverians, and Romanovs. It is a shame that they were the first dynasty to start to become unraveled, but unlike the Tsars and Kaisers, they still hold on to their ancient legacy through the Kingdom of Spain.

Fun fact is that the play is mocking the nobles and it was ordered by the king itself to mock the Turcs :)

Marche du Royal-Soissonais - Lyrics (translated in english) 16:23 March of the Royal-Soissonais Regiment I I want at the end of a (military) campaign To see you pretty boy. From heroes that we accompany We catch the look, we get the tone. Against enemies, and for the Ladies We are winners by imitating each other (imitating should be understood as : improving) And rli and rlan (doesn’t mean anything) We attacks the citadels Relantanplan (doesn’t mean anything) beating drum II Oh young people that honor leads, Take part in Orleans. Our colonel, grand cap’tain Is the leader of bon vivant (french word, similar in english). Lady you had to see him in plains Where the danger was the greatest. And rli and rlan (doesn’t mean anything) He alone is worth a dozen Relantanplan (doesn’t mean anything) beating drum III Our officers during the battle Are pell-mell with us all (here it means : evenly distributed among us). There's no one worth us (here it means : officers are not privileged) And the first ones are in front line. A General, even being a Prince The Grenadiers would form a rank (here some words are lacking :… a rank for him). And rli and rlan (doesn’t mean anything) Rush to the enemy and crush it Relantanplan (doesn’t mean anything) beating drum IV Courageous and proud, without arrogance And respected by enemies Brutal for those who make resistance Honnest with the submitted ones. Serve the King, serve the Ladies Here's the spirit of the Regiment. And rli and rlan (doesn’t mean anything) Our Grenadiers have great blades And always walk with beating drum. V Come quick to take the cockade Of the Regiment when you’ll be (here some words are lacking : ... you'll be old enough to join us). With respect, I want you to be seen. The Prince is the chief and we are the arms. By courage, we look the same. We have same hearts and feelings. And rli and rlan (doesn’t mean anything) Straight to honor, we head together. Relantanplan (doesn’t mean anything) beating drum

Yes I know, as a Colombian, I am interested in Spain and the Monarchy there. I even dare to say I wish for a restoration of the Spanish Empire, I don't praise thieves such as Simon Bolivar, 'O Higgins or José María Morelos, they rose up and further diminished the affluence and stability of Spain and her Empire. However, I would like to see a return of the Monarchy in Portugal and France.

No they couldn't, do you even know what feudalism is ? Some barons had control other huge territories and were often more powerful than the king himself, like the Duke of Burgundy for example who actually fought against the king of France during the Hundred Years War. During most of the feudal ages French Kings had little power but gradually increased it through the centuries, this policy culminated under Louis the XIV and after the death of his "prime minister" Mazarin in 1661 he began his personnal rule and the time of absolute monarchy.

The most well known of french song used as military march is "Auprès de ma Blonde", a french love song with catchy rythm. It was played on the battlefield. Germans and British opponents remarked that french military music of Ancien Regime and Napoleonic eras was kind of joyfull.

Well, depends on your satus in society. I would not have loved to be a simple citizen forced to join the Great Army. There were quite a few million orphans, widows and sonless parents after the great Napoleon came by... The prestige of a nation in history is not always beneficial to it's population of the time...

Tamanwar: It was quite short to be a period. Would be best to talk about an "event" in that case. But I think you have something. What is inspiring about historical periods, most of the time, is the events that take place in that period. In my case, I'm quite baffled by Richelieu and Louis the XIIIth, and before that Louis the XIth. Louis the XIIIth is not the most known king, and Dumas (who gave the most remembered misconceptions about that character) describes him in an bad way. He was not the most clever man on earth, sure, but he knew how to choose his government members to eliminate his own weaknesses. And without his actions the Sun King would have been much less strong and "regal". Louis the XIth, on the other hand, is I think the one that inspires me most. Orageous character, but an unequalled talent for politics, and he built half of France's economy, roads, postal services...
