Cool Forgotten Weapons merch! shop.bbtv.com/collections/forg...
When looking at P-49 (aka SIG 210) pistols used by the Swiss military, there are five distinct groups, with different characteristics. Today we will be showing you these differences, as well as a few features of the Swiss military holster for the P49. For reference:
Type 1: 100001-103200
High polish blue, checkered slide release, wood grips, smooth safety lever, no halfcock notch (most retrofitted), mag body in the white. First batch delivered to Army.
Type 2: 103201 - 107210
Blued magazines, no halfcock (most retrofitted) . Otherwise same as Type 1. Second batch delivered to Army.
Type 3: 107211-109710
All with halfcock notch, otherwise same as Type 1. Third batch delivered to Army.
Type 4 (aka Transitional): 109711-120500
Black plastic grips, matte blue finish (different tone between slide and frame), checked slide stop, serrated safety, separate grip escutcheons, matte blue or high polish blue magazine.
Type 5: 120501-213110
All matte blue magazine, serrated slide stop, integral grip escutcheons, otherwise same as Type 4.

Great video. I owned a 210-4 BGS Version for many years, and have traded it off. Have a 49 on my wish list to go with my K-31, G-96/11, and my 1929 Swiss Revolver. Would love to go back to Switzerland and take part again in some of the rifle and pistol matches. Was active from 1989-1998 before moving to the US.

Recently inherited my grandfather's 2nd series P49 (A105738), including the original holster, a spare magazine, and 10 rounds (dated June 1954, so I probably won't fire those). Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but it handles really nicely so far. Edit: Shoots like a dream.

Could be just me but I find the "Industrial" 4th pattern far more attractive. Only shot a SIG once, so long ago I can't remember the model but it was shorter than that, anyway, it was a smooth, straight shooting, gun that just felt quality.

Amazing as usual man, this is a huge ask given how little this gun is known but could you find out about the RSC SMG devised by Ribeyrolles, Chauchat and Sutter? It fired the 8mm Lebel round and was the first port firing weapon (PFW) beyond that and it's rather unique look is all I know about it. Yes I do play BF1 and yes I have seen this gun around but I would love to see a real version of it, if there are any left that is.

The holy grail of pistols, 13 guys are jealous. ;) I'm not. Okay, I only own one P 210 (it's a -6, equpied with SIG adjustable sights) but I've got a change Barrel and Spring (easy change between 9mm Para and 7,65mm Para) in matching serial number. And I also own a original SIG .22LR training system (totally slide assembly w. Spring & Barrel and a different magazine) for this pistol. So I can shot the same pistol with it's match-grade Trigger in 3 different calibers.

The pistol A101219 at 01:15 is a service pistol which was kept by the officer/NCO after he was discharged from the Army... this is visible by the stamped in P at the triggerguard... BTW to this day this costs you all in all 70 bucks (20 for the police record (or rather the proof of a lack thereof) and 50 for the registration), I kept my service pistol (a SIG 220) with no money spent on the gun itself... Same goes for the AR by the way. Servicemen may keep it for an administrative charge of 100 bucks (more expensive, as a gun smith has to disable automatic fire mode, converting it into a semi-auto rifle)...

It's a fairly nice pistol, it's pretty similar handling to the model 92 with a vertec style of grip. The only problems I've ever even heard about them having was the short lived .357 sig model had a tendency to beat itself to death, the 9mm, .40 s&w, and .45 acp models seem to avoid that issue. Not a bad pistol, but not as 'up to date' as some people would like.

Not so much with these guns, but many of the ones you fire have some strange rounds, it would be very interesting, to me at least having been a hand loader for many years, to get a close up of some of the strange ammo you come across, then compare it to a known round. Just a suggestion, I do love your videos, and watch nearly every one you post, the exception being the book reviews, I know many are into such things, but I have long ago given up the printed word, for the LED screens. Sad to, since I am a published writer, but haven't written for publication now for 10 years or more. The doctors have put a stop to that with all the meds they keep pushing on me to keep me going, it clouds the mind and inhibits the imagination, it blocks the spelling portion, and were it not for auto correct, I would hardly be able to post anymore.

@@33Luger i collect Army P210 or P49 as its correctly called, all literature i own, particulary page 107 of “Die SIG Pistolen” 1981, by H.P. Doebeli, is saying: “all Army P49 are made in 9mm”. Of course, there are some private once in 7.65x21 Parabellum and some privately converted P49 in 7.65 30 Mauser? This cartridge is 7.63x25mm. Did you try to shoot it allready? If not, please be carefull 30 Mauser is much hotter then 9mm or 7.65 if it goes in to battery, but i doubt. But if its in 30 Mauser, i would love to know more about that! I could reasearch all my books and give you additional infos…

I use 30Luger and 7.65 Para interchangeably. I own a 7.65 Swiss, a German police 9mm, two 9mm heavy frame P-210's made for the US market, and one of the new American made versions. I mainly shoot the 7.65 Swiss model with target grips and the American one with fiber optic shots.

My bad. It was called P49 in Switzerland by the army and M49 in Denmark. But basically the same gun.

For some reason I've always preferred the look of the molded black plastic grips over the wooden ones. The wooden grips have always struck me as cheap and cheesy looking not to mention somewhat homely. I also prefer the black plastic on other SIG pistols eg the 220 and 225. A no nonsense cold-war pistol should look the part, lol.

Have you ever considered the possibility that by meticulously pointing out things to pay attention to while buying the guns you're in fact helping the forgers forge better?

That extra rivet in the shoulder strap that allows you to fold it might have been so they could use shorter pieces of leather or use the same length of cut as another piece of leather found on the holster elsewhere, just guess though.

I also think the extra rivet was to help with folding for storage. But it would change the way it sits on the shoulder. Leather is a stiffer material and might cut into the shoulder or sit on an awkward angle. The rivet might have added some flexibility at the shoulder, while helping the strap sit flatter across the chest and back. commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:1930er_Jahre_Schweizer_Armee_Uniformen.jpg
