I like that he's talking about the lack of a water container, with the military issue survival kit....while holding the dark brown ziplock bag that's used for holding and treating water.

On the issue kit, I was always told that the overwrap bag was good for water purification, and that the eyelet could be used with a lanyard to access water from ponds or creeks by dipping it into the water.

Corporal Kelly gave you a shout out so I thought to give you a look see. I have been preparing for many years for whatever comes our way. At 73yo bugging out is not an option now. I may get run out of my house but I won’t go far and will be back to reclaim whatever remains. Little kits as you have shown will be good to cash in the locations of recovery. I will be back.

If you're going into a remote area in rain or winter, you'd pack a lot more than this. Design a kit for comfort, health, and survival and see how light and small your backpack really becomes. Then carry it always!

In the military kit, I'm surprised there was no emergency blanket at least... Takes not much space, weights nothing and would fit perfect into that bag, that could be used as an improvised container. Paul, that was a really good episode it was interesting and entertaining, as I love military designs (sometimes creativeness of the designers is funny) and military gear. Thanks for your efforts and best greetings from Poland!

Another good video review Paul! Both are decent basic kits, the military kit bag should be designed to carry water (an expandable/pleated bottom would also be a good idea so it can stand up). I recently found Ziploc endurable silicon bags, which are even more heavy-duty and are nice! Personally, I build my own kits that way I know that the items are quality and not junk (like most wire saws).

This video only confirmed my long-held view that "packages" such as "survival kit", EDC kit, "Bugout Bag", etc., should NOT be BUYED ready-made, but must be put together by ourselves, piece by piece, each item carefully, thinking about whether we really need this or that device, whether we can use it, what we can expect from it, how important it is, what we could replace it with, and so on. And if possible, do not pack things in these packages that are new because we bought them fresh in the store recently, but pack things that we have already tried, that have served us for a while, that we know perfectly well, that are safe to use and we are experienced, which have already proven to be useful to us and which we like to use! Okay, I admit, this rule is not possible to be followed in every case, but we have to strive for it! "Personalization" is vital for these packages. And putting together such a package is not a day's work if we want to plan it fairly. But the compilation is never final, because it must be kept up-to-date: as our knowledge develops, some objects may be removed from it, others may be included.

I'd ignore the Open here tab, what do manufacturers know haha! Open the other end by slicing carefully through one side. Attach a line to grommet, put a pebble in the bag and throw into middle of river where waters moving faster. Retrieve and hang bag above metal receptacle. Poke some holes in bottom corner and allow to filter into receptacle, if possible add grass/sand/charcoal to aid filtration. Boil resultant water. Congratulations, you have successfully managed to DBD.

G'day Paul, just catch'n up on your recent vids mate; hope all is good with you and yours. These kits look pretty well endowed with useful items, much better than most I've seen, though gotta say build your own is better IMO, no doubt a lot is gonna depend on terrain, climate, scenario and such. The other key point of course is; your pack loadout and/or vehicle should have it well covered before you'd even need to rely on a "micro" kit. Having said that, (and ready to consume food/water aside for the moment), I do advocate for a BK-9 or similar capability + a ferro rod as a bare minimum to have on your person; .... fair to say I reckon ....... the 2 most crucial "Cs" .......but I am open to discussion and very interested in how you get on with an "all in one" pocket kit. Cheers Duke.

Not bad kits you good items in each one that would make sense in a kit. Though neither survival kit came with some kind of fishing tackle. I like to make my own kits that usually cover the 10 C's of survival, plus the 2 additional secret C's of survival, (11th C, Calories ) in a fishing, and hunting kit, and (12th C, Comfort ) in the form of note pad and pencil.

I find survival kits very interesting. Are they for 72-96 hours. The basic time line figured till one will be found. Are they for longer term survival? I personally think they are made for the short term but not labeled as such. Also each individual needs to assess a kit as a starter kit and add those item that individual needs. Example medication. I think a kit should have a water container capable of boiling water in. Paul good review looking forward to more.

Again, notice that both kits have (at least) two sources of ignition for fire. The military kit presumes that you should have a knife, or two, on you. "Two is one. One is none" ... when the one breaks under heavy use. I carry no less than two knives; one folding and one fixed, full tang "BPS," whenever I leave the house. The folder has multiple functions. The BPS is a Mora-like bushcraft blade that is probably hard to find now, because it came from Ukraine before the current conflict. Effing great knives; I only own 2, of different sizes, but I'm looking for others in the future. The ferro rod that comes with the "Adventurer" is actually of good quality ... and another source of ignition. *I have no affiliation with BPS Knives, of any kind.* Ain't this stuff fun to talk about, though?

Pocket survival kit... NOOOO WAY. If the subject is my life, I dont trust any pocket survival kit or any kit from market... For me a realistic survival kit, must be done by yourself and must be able to fulfill the seven priorities. I have two survival kits ideas. One of them is water bottle survival kit. The other one is fanny pack survival kit, that I m using... Here is my fanny pack survival kit.. - 4 mylar blankets 63 * 83 inches / 160*210 cm has silver and gold sides ( to make German military special forces mylar blanket survival shelter, to sleep on, to sleep under.) ( should be green colour) - 16.4 feet / 5 metres of 550 paracord (green colour) - 9.8 feet / 3 metres of 95 paracord ( green colour) - 2 kalenji soft flasks ( to collect, carry, and transport water, each one is 16.9 oz / 500 ml . if one of them is damaged then ı still can use the other one. that s why 2 of them) - Aquamira Frontier water filter ( ı would like to add water purification tablets but ıt is banned to sell and buy where ı live.) - Telescopic, stainless steel cup or glass whatever it is. - Credit card size fresnel lens - Bic mini lighter - small ferro rod - a few disc shape cotton - Morakniv eldris light duty - Victorinox Hiker S A K - Victorinox pen size stone knife sharpener - Suunto clipper compass - signaling mirror ( glass) - Fox 40 micro whistle ( should be orange colour) - Petzl E-Lite mini head lamp and 4 extra batteries - %100 cotton bandana ( should be orange colur) - Fixing tape wrapped around old credit card - 2 sewing needles ( big and the small one) - 98.4 feet / 30 metres of fishing line wrapped around small plastic sewing machine bobbin ( 30.8 pounds / 14 kg , Polietilen, braid, green colour, It can also be used as sewing thread.) - 10 fishing hooks and 10 small sinkers -2 different size tick removers - tweezers - steril cotton discs - 10 bandages for small cuts - small nail clipper and a small nail file - 2 carabinas to carry somethings if ı need to.. - A military tag ( birth day, blood type, 2 emergency numbers on it ) ******************************************************************************************************** Fanny pack survival kit or as ı call it plan B kit, easy to carry on your shoulder or your belly, top of your butt....... Water bottle survival kit is similar of the fanny pack kit, ( except 2 soft water flasks, and telescopic stainless steel glass.) I hope it is helpfull.. Btw thanks for survival kit video :)

5:30 in. That’s a weak kit. It fails to meet the 10C’s and almost appears to be more of an SERE kit. Honestly between the Navajo bead bag on my walker and the hoody they give you for 30 days at the hospital plus my, $25 Amazon belt I go out better equipped than the issued kit every day. And when you see guys like me remember: you don’t know what we keep stashed in those sliced open tennis balls either. 10:03 in. The civvie kit has something to offer but drops the ball bigtime in the tools department. Both kits taken together add up to the same cubic inch volume as a tightly packed ESSE British mess tin knockoff and most viewers here would discover they could build more in one of the ESSE mess tins. But buyer beware. A well appointed mess tin can easily run $400. Start off with a Swiss Army Ranger & Petzl mini headlamp. Several yards of quality 26g stainless wire. 2 Whirlpacks. Kevlar line. Needles. Tweezers. Then mix & match out of the kits present. The number one thing no small kits address properly is maintaining thermoregulation. A 3mil garbage liner and poncho along with a few tools in ones pockets will get a stranded man further at 3am when that bone smashing cold settles in. It’s amazing what a small sandwich bag of dry wood shavings will do. Anyhow my Pheno’s kicking in and Oprah’s on. They shouldn’t sell guys like me flares. Go Expo’s!

Weird thing about the military kit is that the outer packaging doesn't hold a measured amount of water, but the kit includes water treatment tablets that will treat one quart. When we put together our kit, we included one quart water storage bags to match the water treatment tablets. Likewise, the outer aLOKSAK bag also holds a quart.

Both kits are not up to the job, the issue kit is poor and clearly cost savings have driven the production of something that you would not last long outdoors if you were in an escape and evade situation. The civvy kit is better, but only by a marginal fraction. How difficult is it to add some non lubricated condoms to your kit for water carrying or a Wazoo 1 Litre Emergency Reservoir bag that you can boil water in via indirect heat from a fire? Likewise if you want to rely on that issue button compass then good luck finding your way home/safety. Spend the money and add a Nato Survival / Escape Button Compass (Francis Barker Survival Compasses - Natio - NSN 6605 99 522 0223) built to full military specifications, making it able to perform in the harshest of operational scenarios. Quality compass has a Niva tipped brass pivot for low friction and accurate headings over the wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +55°C, it will get you home/to safety if you know how to navigate! Drop the paracord and go with lighter bank line, it will do most jobs you need fine, add a blizzard bag if you can if not add a quality survival blanket as it saves building a shelter and calories wasted, add a small candle it will keep you warm or dry you out using a blizzard bag/shelter protecting you from hypothermia. If you want to see an excellent kit that will keep you alive and has been used worldwide by someone that knows how to survive then take peek at the PreparedPathfinder's survival kit. Looking forward to seeing your revised kit, as these are both putting the B into basic!
