It looks to me like there's been a fundamental technological change since the end of the cold war/Gulf war. Antitank rockets (Kornet) and especially loitering munitions (Lancet) mean that even well-built tanks with the best defenses money can buy are vulnerable to relatively cheap weapons that the tank's crew will likely never even notice. If Russia had the ability to produce enough Lancets, they could send them out over the front lines and disable every Ukrainian vehicle. I don't know when the next war will happen, but I'm thinking it will look very different from what militaries have been planning for.

Why is the 2A6 variant called state of the art in this video? It's from 2001. The 2A7 is from 2014 in comparisson. And the 2A8 is expected to be first delivered in 2025. The 2A7(2A7V) has significant improvements in almost every aspect(There is way to much to different to even start listing them here). There is also an 2A7A1 variant which added the Trophy-HV system for automatic defense against all kinds of missiles and projectiles.

No weapon is invincible in the battlefield. What the West underestimated is the will of the fighting force and the strategies employed. The Russians made a major strategic error in their attack of Kyiev, but they are now well entrenched and adapted. The Russian army is a more formidable fighting force than any the West met in the Middle East. The very fact that the Ukrainians are resorting more and more into terror and guerrilla strikes rather than direct military actions indicates their desparation. This is a slow drain war where Russia has an advantage in numbers. Why dont the West encourage negotiations rather than fake flag waving? A lot ordinary Ukrainians will have their life back.

The Bradley isn't a tank,it is only medium armored. Ukraine was sent enough leopard 2 tanks to support a platoon, not a battalion. And they need a smaller attack chopper like the AH-1Z Viper to provide ground support.

Doesn't look like any of the tanks had ERA nor air support; much less going across on a minefield without adequate support, so it's a shame that the equipment and personnel were essentially wasted. Hopefully, a lesson learned.

The only solution is active protection devices. Like the Merkava Trophy system. Without it, tank are sitting ducks. Edit - notice how armies which were heavily dependent on tanks (like Israel), has opted to both improve active protection systems *while* at the same time reduce the amount of tanks. Tanks are being replaced with medium range ATG missiles (like spike nlos), cheap long range guided mortar bombs (like iron sting) and platoon level sucide drones (like uvision hero). Tactically and strageticly, the purpose and usage of tanks has changed significally.

As a Cold War veteran stationed in Germany and even took missions across the border of East Germany, I am now retired in Asia. I remember we were briefed NATO basically had a 14-day life span once the Russians came across the border in an all-out war. Ukraine doesn't stand a chance!
