Every morning for last 10 years I've had a banana with peanut butter & glass of milk. I'm 80. Blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol have always been normal. I'm on zero meds. 😊

My nanny is almost 100 and she eats gluten and dairy every day. She hardly eats vegetables and fruit. That doesn't mean she is healthier than someone who does not consume processed foods and eats a high fiber diet. Your individual biased experience does not take away from the science. We already know some people are able to live long and healthy lives without having to be pre-occupied with their health. It likely isn't most of the people who liked your comment.

Dr. B, I'm from Portugal and here we also have a diet like Greece or Italy, but because Portugal faces the Atlantic, people forget about our diet, our. excellent cheeses, olive oi!l, bread, fish dishes and variety of fruits and vegetables. I'm 85 years Oly healthy and still go to the gym. Love yours talks about food and nutrition. Thank you

I have seen the effects of no grains, no dairy in my life with positive weight loss, less inflammation. I do eat a limited amount of grains - sprouted grain bread and or sour dough. I agree with Dr. Bulsiewicz, great discussion.

Our local public library in Vancouver, Washington (USA) has both of Dr. Bulsiewicz's books, Fiber Fueled, and Fiber Fueled Cookbook. They are being checked out of the library regularly. The only reasons anyone would start a vegan diet are because they are ignorant of the negative health effects of excessive carbohydrate consumption and malnourishment or they are religious zealots who hate themselves.

There's a world of difference between raw milk and highly processed milk yet that's always overlooked in these discussions! those who have studied the issue have concluded in many cases people are not so much lactose intolerant as they are processed milk intolerant. Many folks who thought they were lactose intolerant do great on raw milk per the science! I was hoping this conversation would be more nuanced in that way!

@@andreaanthony1094 hi,the bigger conspiracy is all the highly processed foods that are sold in U.S. supermarkets.After a certain age the body can't break this down.This causes people to try all these so call diets(vegan,vegetarian ,omnivore,carnivore).after moving to VT I eat grass-fed foods,organic veggies,low carb fruit.naturally grown without GMOs.I look great,feel great at 60.

Chuck, I am deeply grateful for all I have learned from the many informative interviews you have made available to me. This week, I have been desperately seeking information about how a course of antibiotics has impacted my microbiome, and what I should do about it. I have learned important factors from a scant few of the many doctors/pharmacists/videos/articles I have sought information from. But until now, I had not heard anyone address the details of the impact of the antibiotics on someone who eats whole, minimally unprocessed, plants exclusively. I do not know how to express the tremendous level of joy and relief it is to hear Dr Bulsiewicz describe how my high fiber diet profoundly reduced the level of destruction in my microbiome and is now allowing me to heal , rapidly, what damage was done. I actually have been experiencing the signs of this--I am feeling well, and my digestion/appetite is good. Still, I was distressed about a possible profound immunity compromise due to what I feared was a much greater loss of my microbiome, as is reported by the only research I have seen up to now--studies that do not factor in high fiber diet. Knowledge is liberating, and I know I will heal even faster without the stress of worrying about my microbiome health...Heartfelt THANK YOU! I hope you and Dr. Bulsiewicz know, right to the bottom of your heart, just how much healing impact you create!🥦🧄🥬🍄🥑🌶🫑🍅🍓🫐🍇🍎🍌🍋

I was able to avoid antibiotics for a tooth ache. I took liquid trace mineral drops several times a day along with different herbal supplements. I only use food based vitamins. My toothache disappeared within a few days and has not returned. I also eat a hugh salad at night with an avocado so I guess I had lots of fiber. I stay away from sugar, omega 6 oils, and non organic foods. I also use grass-fed eggs, butter, and whipping cream in my coffee. I am 70 now and this diet is working for me.

I hope it wasn’t that your tooth inside just died. Sometimes the pain stops because your nerve has died. This can lead to infections that could complicate your health down the line. It stopped hurting because now there’s no sensor left in the tooth. Antibiotics are there to keep you from getting an infection that may enter your bloodstream. That’s why people get root canals.💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Make sourkraut juice at home and eat the sauerkraut too and drink the juice! Will help you a lot! And if you get bloating and stuff, watch "dr di nezza gut microbiome queen" on how to get rid of the sibo infection

I regularly make/take raw milk yogurt (state approved raw milk), and also add L.Reuteri recommended by Dr Davis. These are typically processed for 10 to 24 hours.Also take Sauerkrout, pickled beets beets, raw celery etc. I am 86, have taken 5000 iu commercial vit D for 35yrs. Do not get colds or other infections. Any recommendations or criticisms please. Mike V.

Thanks for telling the truth about salt. I reviewed the actual science, as much as you can find on the internet (NIH/PubMed) because Dr. Greger was frustrating me. Yes, being on a low salt diet is dangerous, more for some people than others. There is an optimal amount of salt intake, which is almost never zero.

You are right on target! Due to high blood pressure, my old doctor (I recently fired her for other reasons) told me to decrease my sodium intake. I did. I recently went to the ER with a back injury and the medical staff was much more concerned about my lab tests which showed very low sodium. What a treat to be told to eat salty snacks!

I love that I’m finding more and more information on this topic…of the microbiome…the dentist I saw told me that nothing I do or take is the cause of my teeth becoming very weak and crumbling suddenly…that it was all because I don’t brush enough…lol…I used to brush so much it damaged my enamel! How is it that when I was on a low carb diet and ate fresh everything and no breads etc did I have zero dental problems but as soon as I add carbs back in my teeth start having problems? According to that professional, that was just coincident…it has no affect on my dental health. Bs! Absolute bs! No wonder we have a huge amount of the population with severe dental and physical health problems! Also, the over abundance of gmo foods and the use of gly pho sates which is killing our microbiome as well….we have a huge problem about to peak soon…

I have been a dentist for 34 years and I am amazed that you were given such adverse dental advice, as dental decay is well known to be caused by plaque ( bacteria) that thrive on carbohydrates. There are obviously a lot of other health benefits from a diet high in raw fruit and vegetables. You received the opposite advice to what is taught at dental school which is very strange.

I grow up in The Mountain Balkan and dairy product was a main food. Everything was organic, and no one ever had a prostate cancer. Fermented food was also consumed in winter time.

Sounds like you probably didnt eat enough of it for it to affect you, since it sounds like you just didnt eat as much food both good and bad to begin with. Here in America, where the animals are stuffed with as much food steroids and antibiotics as possible, it's terribly easy to eat easily enough to get you sick and fall ill to cancer or heart disease. Also I would ask if any of your family members got screened for prostate cancer.

And yes, we all do, all cancer screenings....nothing so far! we eat mostly organic, fresh food (no fast food or packaged, ready to eat food), keep physically active and stay in touch with our family and friends.... Food is just part of a healthy picture, not all of it!

I was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome Minimal Change Disease (MCD) at 2.5 y.o. All my life I had to be on low sodium (no sodium added) diet, so my diet was most of the time very clean (no fast food, including pizza, sauces etc, even ice cream), however, once or couple of times per week I am adding couple of table spoons of sauerkraut, and just a pinch of salt on my plate of home made food. Gap between my actual and perceived age is more than 10 years now. I look like a daughter of my classmates. Salt is needed, as it is an important neurotransmitter, but humans need very little amount per day: under 4 mg. per day (unless one works out hard and sweats profusely). If sodium in our body is too low, most obviously we would experience cramps - often. Hack: I take my fermented foods (1 - 2 tbsp) and mix them with green salad - amazing!

After looking at all food labels it's hard to find any food without Salt or Sea Salt. This year I stopped cooking with sea salt. I use Table Tasty which has nutritional yeast. It has a salty flavor. My health is better without adding extra sea salt now at 60 yrs old

​@@mphsb I am a firm believer that at any age it is possible to improve one's health, which in turn lead to improved physical, mental state and looks, as long as one makes a firm decision not to be identified as a sick person and therefore remove as much as possible unhealthy habits and change their lifestyle to the lifestyle supportive of health. I wholeheartedly congratulate you on your decision to decrease salt. What I learned also about food - it doesn't have to be complicated at all. My diet is simple per meal, but throughout day and a week I make sure that I have a variety of fruits, vegetables, meets (including liver, but excluding pork) and fish. So far I have the longest adult remission of my nephrotic syndrome. Meaning for 2 years I do not take ANY steroids or blood pressure medication. Before this I was not able to stay off prednisone for more than 6 months since the age of 21 and since 2017 I was prescribed statins, which did not protect me from the cerebellar stroke in 2020. That was "final point" for me in making a decision to get ownership of my health and rebuild myself "as nature intended" without prescription chemicals. Whole 2020 was a deep rehabilitation and re-evaluation year for me. Today I feel better, my blood pressure is optimal for my age, I have not joint pain and flexibility, which I started to loose after 35. I am much more balanced emotionally (even with the stress of the war in Ukraine where I'm from). I also look very good and youthful, considering that all my puffiness associated with prednisone use is gone and I have not water retention whatsoever.

Having been to Israel twice, and also knowing many Israelis, and shopping in kosher restaurants and kosher markets both in Israel and the USA where a lot of Israeli produced food is sold, I'm well aware that Israelis greatly enjoy fermented (pickled) vegetables. They likewise enjoy dairy in Israel, especially yogurts and soft cheeses and creams. I admit that I am not a fan of pickled foods, especially pickled cabbages, cucumbers (pickles), and other foods with that "twang" or sour taste. I used to consume dairy yogurt on a regular basis, but I've tried in the past 6 months to avoid all dairy foods for the simple reason that I wanted to see if I could live without consuming them for health reasons. The good news is that I can. But I would like to be able to still consume the beneficial microbes formerly in yogurt and often found in pickled foods just so I can benefit from health opportunities and welcome where to find them. And on a final personal note, if my health would benefit from a simple diet of chewy and crusty bread, hard cheddar cheese, and dark chocolate, I would consume these things if only for the flavors and mouth feel consistencies. Alas, our health usually doesn't benefit from such "restricted diets."

Hope you can talk about drinking Chia or Flax seeds soaked in water. With the objective to helping to hydrate when one has the sensation of being dry mouth or feeling dehydrated. Even though drinking water, still having that feeling.

The ground flax,hempseeds and chia (grind a little bit) I store in the fridge and put on my steelcut or oat groats on top my porrige before I eat it and mix a little bit in a bottle and store in the fridge for the week

I just put a little kimchi or sauerkraut in my salads. Minimal sodium risk and adds awesome flavor, so no dressing (oils) needed 🎉

I think a point missed about sugar in kimchi as well as kombucha is: much sugar listed on labels is actually fermented out by the time it is consumed. This is especially true if you ferment it yourself (which is to say that we can control it more). Sugar is needed for fermentation, some folks like to boost the content by adding sugar at the start.

Sugar is not needed for all types of fermentation, Sauerkraut is salt and cabbage only. The high sodium issue is easily fixed by increasing potassium in the diet in a 2:1 ratio with sodium. Dont decrease salt, increase potassium, we need up to 4g of potassium daily.

How is this called the physician's committee and you say saturated fat causes diabetes and heart disease. There’s a lot of misinformation that is being pumped out by the dairy and meat industries and it’s called “marketing “. These industries pay people to put out in promote their products so people will buy them. There’s also a lot of good information out there that most people don’t get because they don’t look for it. Real science and studies are not popular because many people don’t want to believe it, so they purposely look for stories that support their own personal beliefs. For example, a person who loves meat, will preferably read about an article that speaks about the health benefits of eating meat because it supports their own stance. Many people don’t know that scientists working in laboratories and using animals for experiments, will use coconut saturated fat to plug up the lab mice’s cells to cause diabetes. They have been doing this for many years. You mentioned that humans have been eating meat for millennia. True, but did you know that the ancient Roman gladiators were actually vegetarian? They were referred to as the “barley eaters” because they ate barley instead of meat. The fact that these people who fought for their lives, speaks volumes about what they thought about food for energy and more. Meat would actually cause them to become more lethargic and sleepy. True carnivores like lions sleep for many hours per day. If you know any people who have to use dialysis treatments, ask them what happened to them and why they need dialysis. They will tell you that they consumed too much protein. The breakdown of protein produces a waste-byproduct called nitrogen. Too much nitrogen will blow out your kidneys. These dialysis patients will tell you that they can no longer eat protein. Another fact, did you know that the average life expectancy during the 1800’s was 42-48 years old? While it is true that many people ate meat in the past, there was also a trade off. You should also understand that our physiology does not support meat eating. The enzymes our mouth produces in the saliva pre digests carbohydrates. We are built to run on sugar, glucose. We are not designed to run on protein for energy. Even so, when you eat protein, your body will convert it into carbohydrates and what is left will then be converted into fat for storage. You should be mad at the food industry for lying to the public and creating a lack-of-health crisis throughout the world because America has exported the fast food lifestyle to the rest of the world. People worldwide are now obese.

Sugar in kimchi is to speed up fermentation. It is not necessary but it is part of the recipe to speed up any food fermentation and it is only needed in a tiny amount.

@@MarcellaSmithVegan See what you don't seem to understand is that fiber feeds the good and bad microbes in your gut which leads to digestive issues for millions of people who finally resolve them by removing all fiber containing foods from the diet. These foods can manifest symptoms such as rashes, pimples, psoriasis, bloating, gas, constipation as well as worsen serious conditions like crohn's, ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, autoimmune disorders, and leaky gut. Of course, it is more than just the fiber in these plant foods (gluten, phytates, lectins, oxalates, etc.) that cause these problems and more in a large percentage of the population. You insult people by calling us Meaters but not everyone Is as fortunate as you to be able to eat whatever they want without serious adverse effects. This is no better than making fun of handicapped people because you have legs that work.

The antibiotic resistance problem is truly important- the US should ban the use of antibiotics unless the cow is sick! Am I right that European nations regulate this better? So many commercial plant milks are full of ultra processed chemicals. If you cannot make your own due to disability or lack of availability then in my opinion, organic milk is a better option. As it has been less processed

There was a foment from Vi that was answered in the interview about kimchee...she used the word sodium. This is table salt but if you use himalayan salt with its 72 minerals including the very important 3 types of magnesium, it isn't as harmful...we needs salt. In fact, the proportions of minerals in celtic or himalayan salt and sea salt, is the same as the mineral balance in our bodies! Amazing 😊

Dairy products are not limited to milks and creams. If the lactose is the culprit there is not much of it left in fermented dairy products such as yoghurts, hard cheeses, Kefir, etc... Can one simplistically put all dairy products under the same umbrella ? By extension the benefits of milk kefir is overrated then ?

Ok. Dairy products were introduced into the human food chain about 2000 years ago which tells me that it is entirely unnecessary. I don't consume dairy as a rule and my shopping bill is much lighter. Remember if u don't need it don't buy it and save on the cost.

I regularly do a 7-10 day water fast (no food except water) My Question is what do the millions of bacteria in your gut do while there is no food being consumed for weeks in your body during a 2-3 week water fast? Being clueless in this area I was wondering if it may not be good for the bacteria to have no food to "work" on during that time. I do the water fast for health reasons and deal great during and after a prolonged fast.

@@lindalamb7512 Yes Linda it is all very confusing. After more than30 years of gut pain and trying to follow government advise on what’s best to eat, I have written my own guidelines for just me! Mainly red meat, eggs, fish and some dairy. Maybe the odd piece of fruit or a square or two of 90% chocolate. Basically a whole foods menu without the veg. I see no point in trying to introduce more fibre since it just causes me constipation. I’m doing fine on what’s known as ‘ Low carb/ High fat’ Yes, that’s loads of animal fats. All natural and unprocessed. Hope that helps

Question for the doctor: please correct me if I’m wrong but I have always thought that there is a difference between organic sodium and sodium chloride, a compound. Organic sodium being found in something like celery and sodium chloride being found in something like sea salt?

People need to know that even flax, chia, walnuts and hemp seeds consumed for omega 3 have omega 6 in them too. Even eating minimal amounts of oil from time to time isn't going to be horrendous if you get enough omega 3s.

A shot of olive oil in your smoothie and some fish oil / cod liver supplements sorts it out. Good oil slows down metabolism and reduces insulin spikes.

Because he has eaten hot peeper so long or less fiber food with T bone steaks all his life long , with other giblets of the animals,his Bleeding kept on coming back & had had 3 operations. Now in UK this time his surgeon removed the bleeding Hemorid away totally. Hope all goes ok🙏 So thanks for your useful information . Normal pickle is Prebiotic also , no need to exaggerated😊

Chuck, Dr B: I’m new to this channel and very grateful for your helpful videos. I’m using low carb (under 35 net carbs) per meal. Learned or rather relearned to eat vegetables. Tremendously struggling with the meal planning since I added avocado, nuts, olive oil as I typically fit under 1200 calories, but my fat intake is almost always 125-175%. And salt intake is upwards 250%. Using Cronometer, i noticed becoming obsessed with meeting the recommended nutrients because my salads are often 1.5 - 2lb which are super large for 2 meals a day. Questions: 1. I’ve been soaking sauerkraut in cold water to reduce salt - does it diminish its healthfulness? 2. If my fat intake is from baked salmon, sprats in tomato sauce, avocado, almonds/walnuts/pecans/pistachios, do I need to lower my fat intake? 3. Without cheese and Greek yougurt, my calcium is too low. Thanks again. More questions are likely to follow….. I dumped my endocrinologist that only repeated a chant of metformine, farciga, trulicity. I took myself off metformin almost 3 months ago after prominent side effects. Btw, I reduced my A1C from 13.7 last thanksgiving to 5.3 last month, lost 40lb, but my fasting glucose is still around 135 so I’m carefully adding more carbs towards more plant based diet. Finding a knowledgeable nutritionist is a challenge. Many thanks.

See if you can get a copy of How Not to Diet by Dr Michael Gregor. or go find his videos on KZfaq. Carbs are not the enemy. *Refined* carbs are bad for you. Processed food is bad for you. Ditch the olive oil (not needed), go sparingly with the nuts and avocados.

May I suggest you research Prof Tim Noakes. He is a diabetic himself aand was Head of Sports Nutrition at ÇapeTown University. He has written several books, but The New Diet Revolution is the one that may help you. I know it helped me and I have been following his way of eating since I furst heard about it around 20 years ago, when I was living in South Africa. I am now 76 and very healthy.
