I wanted to update the care video I did on my milk snake peter. Considering the fact that his enclosure is no longer the same as it was. So tell me what you guys think of the video down in the comments. If there is anyone that know anything on how I can improve my videos or husbandry feel free to do so as well.

You asked about substrates.. For a cage with limited ventilation, aspen is usually good. Such as in a tub/rack. For a glass cage with a screen top, then I will agree with you that forest floor or similar soil-type substrate is appropriate. It all comes down to the snake not losing too much moisture from its skin to the air. Ambient humidity obviously matters to what you eventually do. These animals do not need high humidity at all, but in the wild they live in burrows where humidity is in the 50-60% range and is quite stable, and they emerge mostly only when conditions above ground are suitable, which can often mean dusk and evening. That is how they conserve moisture. They do not have constant access to standing water in the wild, probably very rarely. They don't need it often at all. In captivity we provide it because conditions may not be perfect, so better safe than sorry.

Best comment ever. Thank you for taking the time out for this. You are top notch man! I totally agree with the aspen in a tub. I used aspen for quite awhile at first it was just too hard to find the little guy in all that. Especially to feed him.
@6strings735

@@JosuesExotics Thanks for that. I agree, baby milksnakes will disappear in aspen to the point of not even finding their food. I always feed the young in a plastic deli container. It can be tricky getting young Pueblan milks into a deli container, always squirming and musking. But they eat immediately in those cups.
@JosuesExotics
@JosuesExotics 3 жыл бұрын
100% on that with the separate feeding container. It helped out a ton when he was a baby!

@@JosuesExotics mine did the same thing at first. Now he usually pops his head out when he hears the lid move or when I scrape the screening on the lid to let him know it's food time. If he on the rare occasion still doesn't come out, just fan the thawed mouse in front of a few burrow holes and he comes out

Thanks for this video Josue! I have the same day/night heating set up for my milk snake and it gave me some peace of mind that she’ll be comfortable. Also I use aspen bedding only because it’s really humid during the summertime here in SoCal ☹️ once it’s really cold and dry in the wintertime I’ll probably get my hands on some forest floor bedding! Thanks again man, great video! 👍🏼

Its super humid here in South Florida as well. But its some great stuff! I use it for almost every animal. The aspen is definitely good for burrowing. With my snake being so little. It was always a struggle to find him and feed. Other than that I probably would still be using it.

I like this channel because he gets to the point and explains why he prefers what he prefers. I definitely need to switch to the substrate he uses because my milk snake loves being sprayed down and I’ve always worried about getting mold in her tank. Does anyone have a link to where I can get the substrates?

Got to be honest I've been frustrated at times with my milk snake I bought about 2 years ago almost, she's gotten better but for quite a while she was musking on me every time I'd go to pick her up. She's settled down but the musking is still happening, does it ever stop?

Man trying to get my new milk snake to eat! Iv only had for two weeks but where I bought him pet supplies he was new and didn’t know last time he ate they didn’t.. he has cool enclosure cool warm hide all that! Hey Josue, I caught a milk snake at work last night, it's a juvenile, mabe 6" long. I save it from falling into an elevator pit. (It would've survived the fall but would've had no way out). Based on what I've found it's probably a new-ish born? Lampropeltis triangulum I'm planning on keeping it but I'm wondering if "pinky's?" will work for feeding. I live in South Dakota and am wondering if there's any other local alternatives for a juvenile. Thank you!!

Don’t milk snakes prefer light in the morning and night? Can I get away with belly heat most times and basking in the morning / evening?
@JosuesExotics
@JosuesExotics 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say they prefer light at those times those are just the usually times they come out of their hiding holes. So I would just use a regular light cycle of like 12 hours

We just got a young milk snake about 10 days ago and haven’t seen her for about 9 days. I’m guessing she’s brumating but I’m an amateur and have no real idea. She hasn’t eaten in over two weeks. Should I leave her be or stage an intervention?
@JosuesExotics
@JosuesExotics 3 жыл бұрын
They are just good at hiding. I would definitely try taking her out and feeding her in another empty container so she can concentrate on that. Younger milk snakes need weekly feeding if they are still super small. What are you feeding her?
@Bornearth75
