Jolleen is a first time freshener Dexter cow. She is halter trained and mostly lead trained. In this video we summarize what we did to get to this point and then get Jo back on the milk machine one last time before this collaboration video needed to be buttoned up! How much milk will Jo give us??!
Jolleen is homozygous polled and carries A2/A2 milk proteins.

About Sweet Briar Farm
We are a small farm located in Central/Northern Michigan. We farm every inch of our 6 acres. We breed Registered Dairy Goats, Dexter Cattle, and Heritage Hogs. Clean healthy food is important to us and we like to produce the majority of our food on the farm and we grow and raise enough to sell to local customers. Producing our own food also means we forage for wild edibles such as mushrooms and tap our maple trees in the spring to make maple syrup. In 2019 we added honeybees to the farm and have had as many as 30 active hives producing honey for us.
Our goats include Nubian goats, Mini Nubians, Fainting Goats, and Nigerian Dwarf goats.
Our Heritage Hogs include: registered Berkshires, Tamworth, Registered Kune Kune, and Hereford.
Check out more of our farm life and farm animal videos on our KZfaq Channel! Hopefully you enjoy and Subscribe to our channel. Thanks for Watching!

You first! I don’t think there’s any 100% safe way to milk a cow. There’s always risk working with large animals, especially when they’re in a new situation. If I have to take a kick from a cow I’d prefer to take while she’s winding up on the side rather than full force directly behind her. There’s more than one way to milk a cow, I’m glad you found something that works for you. But they can (and do) kick straight back.

Fawn is impressive! Beautiful goat! I'm intrigued by your Dexter's. I can definitely see the value of them as a dual purpose breed & Jo is a very nice looking cow. I'm curious about the personality of the Dexter breed; Jo had been handled a fair amount after you got her but she doesn't appear to be very mild mannered. Do they tend to be quite a bit higher strung than say a Jersey? Would bottle feeding the heifer calves mellow them to alleviate that? Thank you for a very interesting video! God bless!
@SweetBriarFarmMichigan
@SweetBriarFarmMichigan Жыл бұрын
Bottle feeding would definitely make them more personable. Not too many people bottle feed dexters. I would say 90% of breeders we have bought from do not milk them.
