Should You Get a Mini Jersey? Get all your mini jersey questions answered in todays video, the 3rd video in a COW-Laboration of cow videos!
Our a2a2 mini jersey Ladybug has been an awesome addition to our homestead. We share in todays video our milking routine, and answer some frequently asked questions, like...
How much do mini jersey cows cost?
How much does a mini jersey cow eat?
How much milk does a mini jersey produce?
When milking a cow you need a lot of good quality equipment to ensure the safety and quality of your milk, and that milking is less of a chore and feels more like a relaxing routine.
Everyday K uses
9 QT Stainless Steel Milk Pail with lid - amzn.to/2DYmXMX
Strip Cup - amzn.to/2EAW1DW
Strainer (not the one we use, could not find it online anymore...) -
amzn.to/2FGVf7Z
Dip Cup - hambydairysupply.com/xcart/pro...
Iodine - amzn.to/2nEXZem
Straining Filters - hoeggerfarmyard.com/xcart/Regu...
Half Gallon Mason Jars - amzn.to/2BRNklF
Plastic Lids for mason Jars - amzn.to/2GL2CfV
Our daily milking routine starts with letting our calf out. The calf starts the let down process. After a minute the calf is removed from our cow, and she is led into the stanchion.
The cow is brushed, teats are dipped in a cleaning solution, and wiped dry. K puts gloves on, does a strip test to see that the milk is clear of any disease or bacteria, and then begins milking into the bucket.
Once the milking is complete, the milk comes inside, is strained, then put in the half gallon jars and put in the freezer.
Our cow gives A2A2 milk, which is believed to be a better milk for humans to digest. We discus A2A2 MILK and it's benefits in the video.

My grandmother lives in a remote rural village in Central-Anatolia (Turkey); she keeps around four milking cows and used to milk them by hand until we bought her a milking machine in 2009. Me and all my cousins gathered in the barn and watched the milking process from beginning to end (because we were all city children 🙄)! my grandmother also has many dairy sheep which she milks by hand and makes delicious cheese of their milk.. It is very heartwarming to see homesteaders like you that live this idyllic rural live ... 👏🏻 greetings from the Netherlands.

OMG, that's so cool! It would be awesome if you could learn her method of milking and making cheese etc before that knowledge is gone. Here in Canada it is pretty much gone and I'm having a devil of a time finding basic small farm dairy equipment, let alone home cheese making without commercial materials. Greetings from north western Canada.

Back in the old days dairy maids used to milk several cows a day! Good job milking your cow. From childhood to my mid 30's I used to drink Jersey milk, the best stuff there is. I miss it bigly.

Can you drink the milk right away or do you need to do anything to it before drinking?
@barking.dog.productions1777
@barking.dog.productions1777 2 жыл бұрын
@@alamamayt Unprocessed milk is very healthy, also very fattening if you drink too much of it. Store bought milk is usually 2% milkfat or whole milk which IDK how much fat is in it as probably even "whole milk' has has some removed to sell as cream or butter. You might want to minimally filter any hair or bugs that could possibly have fallen into it and chill it unless you like warm milk... pasteurization and homogenization destroy a lot of the good food value of fresh cow milk making it basically unhealthy. Personally I ascribe to the belief that milk is for babies and that milk is generally unnecessary or even bad for adults, but many folks love the fresh stuff - I will have to try it one day.

I'm a first time mom. I wasn't producing enough milk for my daughter. EVERYTHING made her sick and she was losing weight till I found an A2 milk formula. The difference was night and day. My husband and Mother in law are also now able to drink milk for the first time in over 10 years after we found out about A2

I grew up milking cows. Holstein, Guernsey, and Brown Swiss. A tip on your milking technic - learn to milk using your entire hand. It emulates the same method the calf uses to a degree. It will be more comfortable, and once the forearm and hand is conditioned your endurance will improve. This will shorten your milking time or you may just find that you can milk her dry and feed the calf from a bucket hence the expression (Bucket Calf). After a while you will find you have an iron grip.

Graet job!! We have a dairy farm and I love watching folks have a family cow. I have been talking of getting a mini jersey with A2A2 milk for a year now for our own use. We are breading all A2A2 into our herd ( I’m impatient and want it sooner). You guys had so much good and true information, and I do it for a living so my hat off to you guys for being true!! That speaks volumes!!! I completely agree that any live stock is a life style change but a dairy animal means you have to be home to milk every single day and for my big milkers twice a day. Have a very blessed year!! Y’all are doing great!!

I appreciate how detailed you showed the milking process. I tried to milk a cow when I was about 7, I didn’t get milk, just a kick from the poor cow. I want to thank you for being so open and honest with the down side as well as the benefits. We’ve been talking about getting a dairy animal, this clinches the cow over goat. Not sure we’re ready for the daily routine though, calf sharing is not a given. Subscribed during the first video I watched a few days ago, 😁

Cool! I had googled the mini moos before because it seemed to make sense that if a regular cow made too much milk that a smaller one might be just right. Happy to see the theory in action. I love the calibrations educational topics that include the positive & negative to consider before jumping in. Not only do we all learn its very helpful finding the other diy homesteaders. Kinda funny cuz after living in this area 20yrs as a single parent not sucking the system applying for jobs that pay a living wage never got me out of minimum wage that only give part time to maneuver all the discounts a business can. I did strange things like trim yards for free using the trimmings to make starter plants & sale them for $1.00 at the farmers market. I would ask other vendors how to questions all saying no they can't share info or they will lose profit with competition. They kept asking me to join there business meetings saying my creativity would be helpful. So i finely did. They wanted my creativity to help them get more people buying cuz most just come and look listing to free live music. Lol I'm a brutal honest type and they didn't like hearing markets are known for good money saving and locally grown. We even have a grocery store that has there own farm so why would anyone pay these hi price's when they can get 3 for a $1.00. So funny they voted in rules like every vendor has to sale different stuff so there is only one choice. Once your in if you bring overload from your garden that some one else already sales you have to put the same hi dollar price to stop the undercutting problem. Also no more free even if it's produce on its last leg. Lol i politely left are market to do full time house cleaning with undercutting the price of cleaning companies. That slowly turned into care giving cuz inc companies stopped paying convalescent care for any one not on state assistance and they have to sign over all things of value. Its called estate recovery. Now the market people need me to care for there parents cuz I'm affordable and the top word of mouth quality. No I'm not even trained no schooling nothing. The older generation is scratch eachothers back that's now called win win. We are like minded. I work with them cooking and cleaning the way they have always done it. I don't go in and do things my way. By the time there short term memory is gone I'm doing what there long term memory knows that helps the confusion that makes them fight & fuss. When the body stops eating I've learned there favorite food plus i give small plates not forcing large amounts. You tube helped me learn not all people are like this area might be the majority but not everyone. Plus how to find property with a below poverty income. Collaboration helps me to fill in the blanks and make a plan that will work for me. Setting things up ready for old age. As the people in this area come asking my help so they don't lose there inheritance i get happy for the opportunity to see there day to day. I'm sharply told no they can not help others because its to hard for farmers to make a living if more people learn they will go broke. So i keep telling yt'ers they are saving lives now this is detailed of how. Without modern day homesteaders making a few bucks for allot of video making work people like me are going homeless. I always hit the like and share all video's that match a person i know learning that topic. It helps them you and myself with a simple pass it on that grew America. Now fear and greed is making a new homeless problem that has nothing to do with drugs, alcohol or bad choices. After 20yrs im very well known liked and highly respected in an area of strict regulations and one of the highest price realistate markets. Ya tons of born and raised Oregon moving out and California moving in. This is the 3rd time I've seen this in my life time. Thanks to modern day homesteading and you tube its the first time I've had the joy of hope in hard times. Thank you all for trying to survive in way that is truly saving lives. Lol now the google problem is growing patrons so I'm very grateful for the calibrations helping new yt'ers grow themselves big enough to get that problem. Again its the win win that bought America out of the grate depression after the same mindset grew America in the first place. My point is even the good parts of history do repeat its self we just don't talk about it like we do the bad parts of history. Thank you all cuz my creativity will be referring this calibration to my long comment hear. I hope it gives you a few more views as i save time for land surching.

I wanted to add one more comment. We have relatives that were dairy farmers during their day. They lost their farm due to financial problems. They fed their children raw milk as well as they themselves drank the raw milk all their life. When they were forced to sell their farm and depend on store purchased milk some of them became lactose intolerant. Ironic isn't it?
