I've watched a few different channels since stumbling on this subject and I think what I like about you is that you don't have the top of the line equipment. You just have the basics, which allows you to be proud of "doing it yourself," I mean how can you be proud when some machine does all the work for you like mechanically rotating the log for you, moves itself down the log etc. I'd rather be able to say, "I did it" Kudos. 👍👍👍👍👍 PS I love the outtakes.

Great video and interesting content. I built a band sawmill years ago, and used trailer wheels for the pulleys. I got a lot of enjoyment out of running it. This brought back memories. Good luck with your channel's success!

I literally jumped in my seat when I saw that poison ivy! I react badly to it and where I live it's everywhere, so I've grown to spot it quickly. Nice work on the log. Something new every time...

Definitely explains why this wood is used in all the trim for older homes. When we look for houses to live in we specifically seek gumwood out. It’s beauty can’t be matched. Drives me nuts when people paint over it.

Lots of opinions on this species. Experience helps: Sweet Gum is a WONDERFUL Wood, and HAS been used, and IS being used to make all kinds of beautiful and functional things. Yeah, there are defects sometimes. Same with Firewood use; LOTS of Heat. - look it up. Just because some don't like it isn't much reason to call it "trash". Nice Sawing, nice video, and thanks for sharing it.

That's how the homeowner mills do it. That isn't how the big, professional sawmills do it. Much more involved in milling lumber.

I saw someone use a pressure washer on a log before sawing it to remove rocks and dirt. That seemed a good way to preserve the sharpness of the blade. I think that pattern on that gum is beautiful!
