Brenda, My Beloved was called home 16 years ago. I have lived alone since then. The beauty of a marriage is unique in this world. And, watching Miss Lori and Mr. Brown makes the memories come alive with the wish to be doing the same. There are so many days I wish I was with my Tom on a hill, in a holler, building a homestead, but I know the Lord has a different plan for me and I humbly bow before Him knowing He will show me how to live each day. Ask Him for all your needs, He always gives. Along the way He gives additional, enormous blessings...like Miss Lori and Mr. Brown. They are teaching me to do things I could not do without them. I have watched every video, some several times and it fills my soul just to say I know them from afar. You are loved, greatly favored, and He knows your name! Isn't that amazing!

Last night I made bread bowls to go with homemade broccoli cheddar soup and with the remaining dough I threw together a pan of cinnamon rolls. Smells great cooking and very delicious.

Hey Miss Lori and Mr Brown 👋😁 This was an excellent bread tutorial 👌. I only wish we could get such equally excellent equipment here in the UK. Unfortunately most of it has all the import charges attached so if we can get anything it is at least 4x the US price. Today I also made 4x 2lb loaves of bread. Gee wizz❗ I can't wait for breakfast in the morning. Its my own recipe with no sugar and it uses sourdough and yeast together for levening and taste. My dad loves it and says today's batch is about my best yet. Update: My Veggie beds are all complete in the front yard and some of my seedlings are about ready for planting. My day is full tomorrow moving 3 tonnes of soil and horse manure so I best get to sleeping now. Good night and God bless you wonderful people. All the best from the UK 🇬🇧 Paula.

I bought a bucket of wheat berries on Amazon last month. Went to buy a bucket this month, it doubled in price. It was 1/3 cheaper to get twice as much from Azure Standard. I need to wait till April and may need to take a day off work if the pick up folks can’t work around my work hours but it’s worth it for my peace of mind. I have an attachment for my Kitchenaid mixer to grind the berries but also purchased a hand grinder in case there is no power. Lord help us all. I never thought things like this would be happening in my life time

Thanks for this particular video. So timely. I’m growing my own wheat now.... 600 acres. For household use and for chicken feed. And, I have two grinding mills ... one that’s electric and one massive hand-cranking mill. I LOVE having them and I love having fresh ground flour on hand. And I’m learning the ways and means of aging flour... the better aged, the better tasting bread.

That’s interesting about aging the wheat berries. Can you expound on that a bit?
@KMcKee-qn6bo
@KMcKee-qn6bo 2 жыл бұрын
@@cynthiafisher9907 Oh. I’m not ‘aging’ the wheat berries. The aging process applies to the milled flour. You can mill and either use immediately (or freeze it). Or you can age the flour. When you ‘age’ flour there’s kind of a trade-off between the two avenues... By not using the flour right away... you do lose some of the nutritional value. The trade-off is that you gain flavor and elasticity.. which makes a better tasting and better textured bread (or whatever you’re baking). There’s an art in the process to find the happy-medium of preserving most of the nutritional value and managing to improve the texture.... and that’s what I’m seeking to learn. Frankly, speaking as a doctor though .... I’d suggest you do what Miss Lori and Danny advise, because ultimately the nutritional value is the thing to aim for. In my situation, where I have plenty of wheat berries at my disposal, I feel like I can afford to play a bit. Mostly, I just want to fully understand the process of aging and the differences inherent in it. Wheat berries in their ‘intact’ state won’t actually age... with the right conditions, like all other seeds and kernels, they’ll remain the same and viable for thousands of years... just like Pa Brown pointed out. Hope this helped, Cynthia.

I so enjoyed this! I'm older than you are and I certainly understand the arthritic hands.Ive wanted that mixer for a while now. I've always loved making bread, being raised on a farm,and lived on one most of my life. It was years before I learned about hard wheat berries that grow mostly in the higher altitudes drier climates of Middle to Northwest, having more gluten than soft wheat berries from lower altitudes of more humid climates of the South Eastern states. The soft wheat flour makes the greatest biscuits and cornbread! So it figures in that they have always been a staple of the South.

The loafs of bread looks amazing! Thank you for sharing the process. Homemade bread is amazing the hard part is letting it cool. I will usually make a extra loaf for us to eat while it is hot with butter and let the rest cool for regular bread. I have been storing up wheat berries for several years. I also have vital wheat gluten stored in the deep freezer. I can use it to make all purpose flour into bread flour. This makes the cheap flour into the expensive flour. I also can use corn starch to turn all purpose flour into cake flour. We need to learn how to make due with what we have so we can enjoy life the best way possible.

I didn't know the whole wheat berries lasted that long unground - they are a treasure. I saw a woman cut her bread in half right down the middle. She took slices from the middle instead of one end - then pushed the two ends together, they fit nicely and she claimed it stored so much better and I'm trying that method of cutting. Thought you may like to give it a try, also. You gave me lots of info about wheat, different names, storing, and it was a GREAT video. I didn't understand the difference between red or white wheat nor the fine/not so fine grinds and how they best are used. Thank you for so much!

I take a sheet cake pan and fill it with hot water and place it under my bread dough while it is rising in the oven. It does great at heating things up for the rise.

Great job! I love making bread and I use hard wheat and soft wheat berries. I grind mine with my VitaMix. It grinds the berries perfectly for different textures for different breads. Your bread came out really good. Nothing like homemade bread.😘👍🏻🍞🥖

Miss Lori we found a Nutrimill on Craiglist a couple of weeks ago and my first batch of dough with fresh milled flour was absolutely delicious! It's nothing like store bought wheat bread or even the "healthy" whole wheat bread from a local bakery.

Here is some good tips that I have learned while Milling flours. If a recipe calls for 120 g of flour you would Mill 120 g of Wheat berries. 120 grams = 1 Cup of flour. 1 c WW flour equals 1 c plus 2 TB of milled flour. Soft White Wheat Berries is for Pastry Flour you can sift it down to a cake flour Hard Red & White Wheat Berries is defense in color and some taste the White is sweeter and is lot lighter then the Red. I blend the two together to make a really awesome Wheat flour . You can come close to an All Purpose Flour using the Hard White Berry by sifting it using a different grade mess sifter per mesh the smallest I go as low as 60 fine mesh . You can go smaller but I have not seen a difference in the use. All so save that Wheat germ you get from Sifting many uses for it. Store it in either fridge or freezer. I hope this helps ya. I love that mixer it is just like my Bosch. They are both made by the same company and they are work horses. Hope ya have a good day and these tips help you out. 🤗💞 Oh I had to resub ya . I never unsub from you. Darn YT.

Thanks Angie's Pantry! So helpful, I always go by weight, I am just starting to use home milled grains, and you confirmed my thoughts that 1g berries would equal 1g milled. Now to see if my staple all grains sandwich loaf recipe will be 100% compatible with fresh milled grains... or if I have to fudge with the process a bit. I've been cranking this one out for decades, but suddenly feel like a brand new bread maker again, lol.

I have had my wheat grinder -Magic mill plus- for over 30 years and a Bosch mixer for 40. Two of my favorite appliances. My three girls all have Bosch mixers and various wheat grinders. You will enjoy using these two machines.

I’ve been milled for 3 years and found fresh milled flour takes longer to absorb the liquid do not add more flour to absorb. I’ve also found it needs the windowpane test lets you know it’s good to go! Good job! Love fresh milled flour and removed all bagged flour from my home and none has entered again. It’s a learning curve and it’s well worth that learning curve. If you mill too much keep in baggie and in freezer till next need Fun and rewarding!

Great video on wheat & storing it & grinding. My grinder is a dual grinder that I can use as electrical or can convert into a hand crank. We've had most of our wheat berries for about 10 years now in the vacuum sealed buckets & were told that they will be good for about 30 years like Mr. Brown said. Your new mixer will help you a lot in your baking over time. Hugs to you two!

I just got a mill off eBay-it’s the 25 yr old equivalent of the nutrimill, the ‘whisper mill’-I got it for $120 because I couldn’t bring myself to pay retail for brand new…let me tell you even at 25 hrs old it CRANKS and performs beautifully! Worth the investment!!
