My parents built this house. They lived there 1978-200? My husband and I married in the backyard under a giant maple tree that is no longer there. We had so many fun parties there. I recognize all those fixtures and tiles. We used to sneak out onto that deck between the two bedrooms to smoke cigarettes! So nostalgic to virtually walk through the house. Thank-you for this.

Why did your parents abandon it?
@nadine5338

@@beverlynorris557 They didn’t abandon it. They sold it to new owners more than 20 years ago. I don’t know who or how many owners it has been through since then. I’m sad it wasn’t taken care of after my parents put so much work into it. It was such a happy place for us.

Very beautiful house Noah. I'd live here too but a bit further back. One disgusting basement. Definitely flooded. Love it, and we have a new favorite house hear. I can only imagine what money was offered to the folks who lived here. I love everything about the house, wouldn't change anything except the orange walls in that one room. That's it. Fantastic explore Noah. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Ok so this is my opinion on this house. It appears to me that part of it was an older existing house that had a new addition added in the 80’s and the old part also got re decorated. That one downstairs bathroom is much older looking tile and tub, that one part of the basement looks much older and the weird step ups and downs on the stairs.

I love this place! The purple walls, flower details everywhere and sunroom are amazing! It’s such a shame it’s going to be torn down for a modern monstrosity.

As an older guy I see these these design choices and just cringe. As some who delivered wine all over the golden horseshoe -money does not equal taste. The windows always bothered me. Your house is sitting on a gorgeous vista. And aside from the sunroom. There are no big bay windows facing it. By the way I'd cook all my meals in the sunroom. As for reno-ing this place, the water marks that run half-way up the basement walls say nope! You would have to gut the entire place and at that point you would just re-build. Excellent content as always.

The best washing machines , the old ones where if they didn't wash, you could turn on & drain & fix the mess. Now you keep having to start over & it leaves the water & puts more water in. I love the Kenmore old machines you could turn on whatever you needed. Stop,spin,drain & water level.

I don't think that wall pattern in the basement is wallpaper. In the 90s it was really common to use paint in a "creative" way on your walls. It's why the pattern continues seamlessly onto the door and wallplate. Check out anything by Debbie Travis and you'll see what I mean.

Hey Noah, I've been watching your videos for a couple months now. I live in Nova Scotia where we also have many abandoned and forgotten homes. I understand about not wanting to draw unwanted attention from the neighbours, it's too bad they were around preventing you from checking out the balcony. That basement was so very interesting, especially all the colour coordination. Was that paint on the doors to match, or did they wall paper them too? The room with the surf motif painted on the wall was epic. Weird, but awesome! I too would live there in a heartbeat, so gorgeous but so very sad to see it left like that. Those stair planters were fantastic too! Thanks for sharing this one. It was fantastic! :)

Wow really enjoyed seeing this unique home in a beautiful setting. I would LOVE being on the water!! The views, just the vibe of the waterfront. Would love to spend chilly afternoons soaking in the sun in the sunrooms with a good book and a hot cup of tea. So many unique details in the design of the home. I really like vintage light fixtures and there were many unique ones here. Wish I could somehow save all of them and open a vintage lighting shop someday. If walls could only talk what would they have to tell us. I’m sure they’d be saddened by impending doom. What’s wrong with people today that they just want bigger newer and more expensive and most times boring.

I'd keep the house the way it is AND build the infinity pool. That big yard out back against the lake has serious potential, maybe some gradens, fountains, gazebos etc, but the house itself doesn't need to go, it's rad the way it is! (obviously patch up the water damage)

Unfortunately, so many cool old places get razed so a new one can be built, I know when I lived in Southern Florida, razing grand old homes with character, were razed without a thought, so some wealthy person could build a new one, and then when they were done, it was rare they ever even lived in it. It almost seemed like a hobby, like decorating a doll house when someone was a child , and then they were bored with it three days after they were done . Of course not all wealthy people do that, but it seems pretty common. I’ve seen some beautiful historicic Mizner homes, demolished, so some rich person could play house , until they were bored with it three days later..

It’s a lovely place. I would have to change the kitchen and bathroom though. It is sad it’s being demolished, I wonder if the mould has anything to do with it. I have heard that once you have mould, it can be difficult to get rid of totally. I suppose the only good thing is, that the new owners are going to rebuild in its place, and it’s not going to be replaced by several homes on one plot. Hopefully they will build something unique, which if then abandoned, you can view in a few years time. The price was expensive, considering your neighbours are right next to you, but I imagine you are paying for the lake view.

I think this house's land value to house value ratio became out of range, and that caused the demolishment. If this is at Chicago gold coast lakefront, the building lot alone would cost that much, and the house itself is out of date and deteriorated without much value. Yes, it would make sense to rebuild a new luxury house that matches the location value.
