was it necessary to remove the bottom part of the pack ,couldnt you have just balanced it from the top part where you tested the voltage?

The Milwaukee oscillating multi tool and rocket tower light destroy m12 batteries of all types for some reason. If you let the battery get below two bars in these items there is a good chance they will have this issue. Worst part is if you jump start or I even charge using your superior method it doesn’t really fix the problem. The internal resistance of the bad cells will continue to get bigger and higher until eventually it does this every single time.

Add the polisher to the list. Starting to think the M12 line is a bad investment. Quality just isn’t good enough.

I have one that was only a year old, and had very little use. I was getting 0V across the main 12VDC pins and then two cells were around 3.6-3.7V with the third cell giving 0.00V. I'm guessing there's a broken contact causing open circuit or else if were a short I would've seen at least around 7.5VDC on the main DC pins. It should be under warranty though so I'm not going to open the case if I can get a claim.

A completely dead cell can stop the power coming out of the battery seen it before that cell being replaced should fix it if you don't get a warranty

@@doctorlefthandthread seeing this video was the kick in the pants I needed. I filed a claim and they accepted it. The purchase date was Jan '23 and the manufactured date was sometime in '22. So no matter what, it wasn't past the 3 year warranty. I was very curious to peek inside but not enough to void the warranty since it's rare these days to get a break in your favor. Thanks.

@@doctorlefthandthread yeah they have a mail in option and you just print a label. There is a service center around 20 miles from me but that's s bit of hassle for just one M12 battery. Maybe if I was a contractor swapping out dozens of batteries, but that's not the case.

I didn’t know it doesn’t have a built in BMS inside, instead the BMS is in the charger..cleaver and more safer

How many of the Dewalt 996, 998 or 999 drills have you had to repair?

Only one 996 because it was dropped from a great height I had to replace the outer casing. I did see 2 996 units that had to go for warranty repair though
