Looks like the 3/8 has finally grown into its frame. Can't beat having that extra torque for difficult fasteners. It even sounds more powerful. Can't wait for Milwaukee to send me one in time for Xmas.

I like the fact that Milwaukee takes pride in their craftsmanship and quality . I've been using their tools for years as well as snap on . For cordless power tools I am in the process of converting to all Milwaukee. Thanks for the video

I have the old 3/8 drive unit, actually based on your recommendation. I tear down cars and sell parts and used to use a cordless impact. The size of the old one is more beneficial, and not looking for any more torque. I am sure the new ones are awesome, but wouldn't exchange old for either.

Don't understand all the complaints. I have the old 3/8. From experience its just a 1/4 with a 3/8 anvil. It really doesn't have the horse power and it struggles with anything larger then 14 mm. The new 1/4 ratchet is comparable in size, and can handle up too 14mm which the old 3/8 struggles at. So this new 1/4 is a replacement for the old 3/8 ratchet. So for those complaining, the old 3/8, is not even a real 3/8 because it can't handle 3/8 sockets its meant for. The best ratio socket to size for a 3/8: 14 mm to 19 mm (Which the old one could never handle) and for 1/4 Ratchet socket size is: 4 mm to 13 mm. Use the right tool for the job.

I don't own any and was thinking the same. Although I just ordered a older version for 200 dollars with 2 batteries and 5 piece kit. Id like a newer one and it makes sense performance wise; besides price. I have brush-less dewalt drills and the battery last a long time. The only times I would use the rachets is likely doing front engine work. Timing, waterpump and belts etc. I don't think I need the battery to last that long. It would be nice.. 5 tools that cost less than the newer model rachet. ???

I love my old 3/8. Bought the new one and I love it even more! What I realized is that the new 1/4 is meant to be a direct replacement for the old 3/8. Because for the provided torque, 1/4" set of sockets will handle all the fasteners. The new 3/8 is a beast! To say that the new 3/8 is too big is kind of the wrong way to look at it. The old 3/8 was too small for the job is the way I see it. Because the new 1/4 is the same size as the old 3/8. Any fastener that's larger than say a 14mm, the old 3/8 was going to struggle with anyways.
@50sKid

I realized all that, and then I said fuck this overly heavy bulky new 3/8, just gimme back my original, perfect 3/8" and I'm back using it forever until it does.

Was thinking about getting the new fuel 3/8, but home depot had a black friday sale with a drill, impact driver, light, hackzall, and old 3/8 model, w 2 batteries and a charger for 199. Considering thats what the bare tool fuel was, I have no regrets. Saved my ass uninstalling/reinstalling headers on e46. Last install took me literally less than 2 hours, including jacking up the engine and all

Good tip for cleaning any Milwaukee tool, comfort grip ratchets, or anything rubber / plastic handle, use silicone spray. Works better then anything I've come across. And it doesn't damage paint or eat the rubber or plastic like brake clean does.

Right angle impact wrench, I don’t understand the right angle stuff, I see Makita right angle and ....I mean ratchets are already right angle...what’s the point? Just the longer neck helps access. Also does the new 1/2” have same size or bigger than 3/8”

Question. So if you get the 1/4 inch one....what's is the reason you'd get 1 anvil size over the other? Like can the attachments only fit to certain size anvils? Aren't all the shafts able to be attached to them all? Or is it a must to get both tools? 1/4 and 3/8?
@code_red7744
@code_red7744 5 жыл бұрын
Jennie RedRose 3/8 is the most common size for fasteners over 10mm or so. You’re less likely to break fasteners with a regular 1/4” ratchet just because they are smaller making it harder to over torque/break bolts.

I recently bought the 1/4" M12 FUEL power ratchet and I love it!! I was trying to decide between the more expensive FUEL model and the less powerful M12 base model (a $50 difference), but I'm so glad that I spent the extra cash on the FUEL! It's so sturdy, fast, durable and powerful. For my 3/8" power ratchet, I had already bought the Harbor Freight 3/8" power ratchet, before buying the FUEL, but now I wish I would've bought the 3/8" FUEL power ratchet, because I'm so impressed with the 1/4" FUEL. The HF power ratchet isn't bad, but you can definitely feel the difference between the 1/4" FUEL and the 3/8" HF power ratchets.

@orig6redwings124
@orig6redwings124 6 жыл бұрын
I've never used the original 1/4" M12, but when I was researching the two, there were enough reviews and videos that showed that the originals aren't as stout as the FUEL M12. The main area being the piece where the socket attaches. I guess they're prone to breaking on the 1/4" drive ratchets. So, I figured I'd spend a few dollars more and buy the FUEL model. I've used it quite a bit and it works awesome! For a 1/4" drive, it has really good break-away torque and the RPMs are good, too. I'm definitely going to get the 3/8" FUEL ratchet, once I pay off the 1/4" ratchet. The Harbor Freight 3/8" ratchet that I have is OK, but if I had to do it over again, I'd spend the money on the 3/8" M12 FUEL ratchet.

adapter adds slop and reduces power transfer, try using these ratchets on something really flexible like a hose clamp that uses a nut and bolt, or even better, use it in your hand, you can hold the anvil still and because your hand is soft the motor continues to run, its just the way they're designed.
@baxrok2.
@baxrok2. 6 жыл бұрын
Not an amateur but a pretty skilled DIYer. Regarding the length of the adaptor, yeah, it will add but if you notice the 1/4 drive head is much smaller so that makes up for some space. Yes, adapters add slop and reduce power transfer, but so what? It always comes down to splitting hairs with these things. People think they can tell the difference between a few ft/lbs by feel! As I see these tools, the main reason I would have one isn't to tighten or loosen bolts/nuts to some spec but rather to reduce time spent ratcheting. If I want precise torque I use a torque wrench. If I want something tight I'll tighten it that extra bit by just using the tool as a ratchet. GENERALLY speaking, the 1/4" drive with a 3/8" adapter is fine for my purposes and I'd guess most others but maybe not for some pros or super picky DIYers who can afford one of each size!

The whole thing with “breaking off bolt heads” and you “not seeing it happen”, I’ve broken 3 different 10mm bolts with the 3/8” ratchet. I would recommend to use it a bit more before judging a tool and telling people it doesn’t break bolts. It is a great tool, I will say that, I do love it, but just making sure you’re giving proper information to your viewers.

Mike Eldredge they are half the cost of the snap on version so they aren’t really expensive as you think.

Idk why Milwaukee has such an issue with the white logo coming off so fast. I literally got a new fuel Impact for Christmas and it’s already solid red with no white letters.

I have the original 3/8, then the orig 1/4. Was so disappointed to find they were the exact same size. Should've done my homework. Until they make a much smaller 1/4 drive, won't be investing in another one

Which do you use more? 3/8 or 1/4?
@50sKid

Of these two, I use the 1/4" because the 3/8 is usually too big and heavy for me. I use the old 3/8" more than either of these.

I don’t think this is true. I just bought one with what I think is a date code of March 2018, purchased Aug 2018. It is still Chinsum.

The old one is definitely better. Sometimes I have problems getting in tight spaces with the old one. I can't imagine doing it with the new bulky 3/8. I hope bosch would understand and release a smaller 1/4 version with only 10-15 pounds of torque. You can break loose by ratcheting and small torque would not damage threads wile tightening. For something bigger than 30 pounds small impact is the key.
