When Ritchie Blackmore felt inspired, no one could touch him on guitar - he was that good 🤘🤘🔥🔥But if he was irritated, agitated or perturbed in any way, Blackmore was crap... the Deep Purple concert release 'Come hell or high water' in 1993 was a perfect example... he was so agitated that he was barely playing guitar at certain points. If it sound different, it's because the studio version of 'Man on the silver mountain' had a different band, besides Blackmore and Ronnie James Dio (vocals)...the live clip had Cozy Powell (drums), Bob Daisley (bass) and David Stone (keyboards)... the 1975 debut studio album had Ronnie James Dio's Elf bandmates - Craig Gruber (bass), Gary Driscoll (drums) & Mickey Lee Soule (keys), who were all fired before Rainbow started touring.

These guys were so good they could just play around and make everything sound so good. All the songs from this concert could be considered classics. Such a great show. "Mistreated" and "Catch the Rainbow" stand out the most from this concert, just magical.

The other song that was used in this was called Starstruck

This was the magic Blackmore and Dio could create between them. Neither of them came up with anything quite as good as this in their later projects, however great they were. Catch the Rainbow from this same Munich performance is even better, and Sixteenth Century Greensleeves, if only for Blackmore's intro. Still I'm Sad is good if you have about 25 minutes to spare.

The live performance was listed on the album cover as "Medley" Man on the Silver Mountain, Blues and Starstruck. Much of it was improvised within in a framework. There is another recording from a year earlier and the framework is the same but much of the improv pieces are distinctly different. The first time I heard MOTSM was a live version. I was so disappointed when I heard the studio recording. You can't go wrong with Dio era Rainbow

Rainbow belongs to Ritchie Blackmore my dear friend, and yes he is the original guitarist of deep purple who started rainbow at the end of 1975 along with Cozy, Powell and the Ronnie James Dio , arguably the greatest hard rock lineup in the history of rock music

i remember R. Blackmore having arrived three hours late because he was held in jail in Austria for kicking a security guard with his boot from the stage. Apparently Fans wanted to get closer to the stage and that guard prevented them from it and Richie got "pissed" about it. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

For my money one of the greatest live albums for rock guitar is Live in Germany 76 - every tune is a master piece of live rock guitar and the On Stage album is a master piece as well ...you cannot truly appreciate Rainbow unless you hear their live material

That was the song "Starstruck" in the middle of the song between the improvisation from Dio, Blackmore and the band. These guys put on a hell of a show. I would give anything to go back and be part of this crowd in Munich. Side note, the concert didn't start on time and was around 11PM when they went on because Ritchie was in jail in Austria and got out late and had to travel to Munich for this concert.

The break varied, Starstruck is from Rainbow Rising, Night People was an improv part added in this tour. When I saw them in the November of '77 they played a longer version of Night People. Ritchie made the band rehearse until they had everythng perfected to allow improv sections. He basically rarely never played the same solo twice apart from the classical parts in Highway Star and Burn.

back in the 70's my older brothers were the ones with records, mostly prog roick, and i think they had bought Focus at The Rainbow (Theatre) but wanted to buy an album by Rainbow. Who knows maybe Rainbow played at the Rainbow (which is where? The record "Focus at the Rainbow" refers to a live album by the Dutch progressive rock band Focus. It was recorded at the Rainbow Theatre in London, England, in 1973.The Rainbow Theatre in London was a famous concert venue that hosted many iconic performances by various artists during the 1960s and 1970s. I don't know the history but there is a later DIO song called Night People (from 1987). Maybe it evolved from an unused Rainbow song, referenced here in this medley. Or maybe it WAS improvised.

They just played live on stage and real great musicians do some improvising and jammin this was Man on the Silver Mountain with Blues jammin anda piece of the Song Lady Starstruck from their maybe Best Album Rising.

If you check other performances from this tour you will find out every night was different. Lots of stuff was improvised.

I don’t know if you did Deep Purple on your other channel, but if you didn’t do Child in Time(live 1970), Highway Star, or Lazy. I don’t think you will be disappointed
