Can I just say that watching you gets me so excited to do watercolor paintings unlike any other art KZfaq channel. Your channel is SO informative and SO fun, and the way you give the information is so easy to understand. Thank you so much, Steve!

Pyrrole Orange (PO73) is one of my favourite must have on the palette colours. My favourite mix is putting it with cobalt turquoise for an interesting granulating grey with lots of character.

I absolutely love this set! I can't wait until I've got a few more mixes down pat. The ones I have tried and practiced are really beautiful and I've had a couple happy accidents(wet in wet) in a study that I hope to remember to repeat. I think if those new to watercolor started with this set and decent paper they would be hooked for life. If I was an instructor, this set would be the recommended palette. Thank you for all the work you did to get this set put together and available to us all.

You posted this just when I needed it to paint a scene with pinkish rocks that should be on the orange side, but not too orange, and pink, but not too red. And with your suggestions of color combinations to create shadows, I’m set. Now I have to paint it 😁.

This makes me happy and feel like i'm on the right path. I don't have those colors but i have vermilion and permanent alizarin crimson which are kinda close to scarlet pyrrol and quin rose. I use vermilion mixed with french ultramarine for skintone too , which to be honest i wouldn't dare try if i didn't discover while swatching that they make a fantastic pair

Very informative, and easy to understand. Wow that’s a lot of wonderful colors from the reds. I understand completely why some of my mixing was off now in my painting. You make playing with the paint fun. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Three surprises I have found in this set. The first was using Viridian as a substitute for phthalo blue, today's surprise was the reds. Before watching today;s video i was trying to get a good strong mid-red for my Amarylis painting; scarlet pyrrole mixed with the quin. rose did the trick!, never expected the intensity of that mixture. Third surprise is the M. Graham paint itself; the several tubes i bought a couple years ago were so runny, they were almost unusable ;of these 10 tubes they all set up within a day, i used an open palette carried in a plastic bag for an outdoor painting day and the only smear was the pyrrol orange. I live in Maine where we have had nearly steady rain all month and these paints are still nicely dry, but very easy to rewet. Is it possible M Graham has reduced the ratio of honey? Thanks again for these mixing videos , and thanks for the highly interesting color selection.

I LOVE seeing your name on the packaging and if I didn't already own all the colors in the set, I'd obviously jump all over it!! lol! The cover art is just gorgeous! I have to say, too, that even just watching you mix in the large pan leaves me nodding approvingly at how good the colors look. lol! My question for you is how you use Opera Pink, if at all? The only use I've found for it is if I really want that intense pink, which I rarely do, or for using it to create flesh tones mixing it with a Hansa or Lemon Yellow. Am I missing something? I know it can intensify other pinks, like Quin Rose, or make violet accents pop more, but I don't ever find myself using it for those. Your thoughts? This was a wonderful discussion and a great topic as we head toward Fall (not rushing Summer out yet... I'm still working on my marguerita and not ready for pumpkin spice yet!). Thank you, as always! ~ Mark

Steve, are you finding that just 10 colours is giving all or most of the range of hue / value / chroma that you need? Thanks.
@mindofwatercolor
@mindofwatercolor 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but it's a bit more complex than that. The key is to be able to mix confidently and understand what a limited range of colors can do and not use a huge selection of colors as a crutch. Think of each of these 10 colors as a representing a family of colors. You will always need the skill of mixing whether you have 10 or 100 colors because you need to predict how colors interact on the paper either because of wet in wet mingling, layering or the need to neutralize. Modification of colors as you paint is always going to be necessary. That said, colors are like a wardrobe. What you can absolutely get by with and what you might collect for fun and enjoyment are two different things. Either way you still need to know how to put together an attractive or appropriate ensemble (or mix in the case of color).

Hello there! Good day, I just want to ask you about your Mijello Mission Gold Pure Pigment set of 24. How did you made the palette with the included color chart. Some colors in the set did not have the same name/color/color number in the chart they gave. For example, i have autumn orange in the set but in the chart there's none. Thanks!

Hi Steve. Thanks for all your work on these mixing videos. Quick question. You are saying Pthallo green blue shade and I just want to be sure that I understand correct that on the tube it is the one that says Pthalocyanine Green. I didn't buy you set, I already had most of the colors. I just had to get a few to complete the set and I want to work with these color after watching what you've done in the mixing videos. But I am a little confused on the green. Thanks so much.
@mindofwatercolor

Yes phthalo green. PG7 is the blue shade variety. The other one they sell specifies yellow shade.

No pinks? What about Quin Magenta? Very vivid, even when diluted... at least in WN...

I didn't think I said "no pinks." I showed how pinks can come from this palette. And as I mentioned, Quin. Rose and a dash of Diox. purple make a perfect Magenta. Also very vivid.
