Archeology seems like a pretty big thing to add, maybe the reason why they didn't add much is because there maintaining their focus on that.

Honestly, the way they were talking about this update being about "expression" and "the players telling their own story" sounds very similar to the language they used to talk about archaeology and customizing the pots with the fragments, so I wouldn't be surprised if archaeology was involved

That archeology one really hit me. I was waiting for it when they said "storytelling". Then Ulraf came on, who has always been very excited about archeology from its initial reveal, who then said it's something that's close to him. And then.... CAMELS. That being said, this update to me kinda feels like it's gonna be a "these are things that would just make sense if they were added into the game and probably should have been a long time ago". Bamboowood makes sense seeing as we have bamboo, new wood means new boat(/raft i guess) (and chest, signs ...) sure, hanging signs make sense if you already have signs in the game, books that are storeable in bookshelves should've been in the game for a looong time (I remember clipping a minecart chest through bookshelves with some stair trick to give the illusion of storing books in them). Only outlier here is the camel I suppose, but a horse that 2 people can ride just makes perfect sense and I thought was a shame you couldn't do when they initially implemented horses, so it does fit in in a roundabout way.

It seems the idea of it being a archeology update is logical. Bookcases to store your finds. An ancient mob. The camel kinda makes me think of stereotypical Egypt archeology. Bamboo blocks make for structures from a far away land (compared to Stockholm). It would make sense I think

Something HUDGE that people are overlooking is bamboo wood. I assume that it'll be crafteble with existing bamboos soo, if they let us use them like regular planks in recepies this would mean that we could finally farm wood without player input. This could be game cheng when You need to get lot's of planks for stuff like chest, hoppers or even noteblocks

Can’t wait for them to make Minecraft “Minecraftier”

I feel like people are basically impossible to please nowadays. Last year people were angry because they promised to much, now they’re upset because they promised to little. They showed that to us minimum things because they didn’t want to make the same mistake as last and year and only announced what is CONFIRMED to be added in the next update. They’ve already said they’re gonna announce more stuff they’re gonna add in 1.20 down the line.

I know when I go anywhere for the weekend, I'm going to miss something important. It always happens. This mob vote has got to be the least significant of all the events that could have happened. Honestly I didn't even realize Minecraft Live was that close

I honestly prefer an underwhelming reveal if it means things won’t be cut or delayed. While it lowers our expectations at first, it means stuff that they add later in will be more of a surprise. And after overhauling the nether and (very slowly) caves, it’s nice to have a calmer update so far. Like the most in continued theming I can hope for is that they’ll perhaps also add meerkats to the desert, giving us all three of the first vote for updated biomes in game

I'm curious to find out if chiseled bookshelves can replace the bookshelves for an enchanting table room and if the amount of books in the chiseled bookshelves will be an indicative of the maximum enchantment lvls

The one thing I was actually excited about was the mob maker. Modding seems difficult, this seems like something to not only make modding easier but also let people who are only getting into modding to not feel overwhelmed by how complex it can be. I can see myself actually using it to re-create some of the legend's piglin races.

Proof that you can't win and people will complain about anything. I personally LOVE that they're keeping stuff a secret again. I always hated that they reveal everything about an update and sorely missed back when they release an update and its a scramble to see what new things they added. This calls back to those good times :)

I remember tweeting about this, but the update should be called 'The Improvement update' or something like that, and be all about improving apon pre-existing features so biome upgrades, new features for old blocks, new variants of blocks, an update to the animations of older mobs so they fit in with the newer ones. etc

I do really like that Minecraft live kept their statements as to what would be coming to stuff that they could 100% confirm they could actually deliver tbh. It doesn't look like a lot, but at least we will actually get it.

Well, I think there were 2 ways to fix last year's Minecraft Live: allow themselves to admit when they are unable to fulfill something within the timeline, or don't overcommit. They chose the latter. No shame in their choice.

1:50 -- They're not going to replace regular bookshelves because they'll be empty by default. The real casualty is the sideways barrels everyone has been using for functional book storage.

I am actually very happy about these "2.0" blocks. I wanted some more biome appropriate blocks for a while. I'm fine with them adding spiders 3.0 and zombie 5.0 and 6.0. I think it would be kind of cool to see more variants. Zombies who could dig and have the intelligence of a skeleton to hide under trees, spiders that actually start generating combweb like in the old spiderqueen mod. Now that I think of it I'm just a big fan of the chisel, invasions and spider queen mods. As well as pre release minecraft. If there's anything that gets my nostalgia going or is giving me a comfortable feeling I'll support it.

Honestly I appreciate getting an update like this. Not every update needs to be huge and thematic like they've been the past few years. This is how minecraft updates _used_ to be - just adding random quality of life features every once in a while that would enhance the game. And this way they don't promise on stuff they possibly won't be able to deliver. Minecraft is a long standing game - haven't people been complaining that it doesn't feel the same anymore? If every update was big and overhauling, we would just reach that point faster. This is good imo. It lets both the devs and the players breathe a bit, and the lack of an official name lets them be more flexible about it. I like it ^^

For the past 3 major Minecraft updates I keep thinking to myself: If a game like No Man's Sky can add a significant content update every 3-4 months for 6 years with a team of 15 people total, how in the hell is Minecraft (literally the best-selling game of all time) struggling to add new content once a year? Especially considering that many of the features of these updates are added by modders within a month of the announcement of said feature.

So. The update adds another functionality to bamboo, which is normally used for scaffolding (useful for caving and excavation as well as building), adds a method of dynamic storage for books (enchanted and written) aiding in journaling, adds a new unique passive mob to the desert that lets two players ride them, AND adds signs. Most of these would very well fit with archaeology which can be seen as a form of story telling, the whole pottery idea literally was said to be about creating an artwork/story. Especially uses for bamboo and the bookshelves for journaling. I also like the inclusion of dynamic storage, I'd love to see shelves for bottles and tools too, since they're one of the few other big nonstackable items we don't have dynamic storage for (armourstands and chiselled bookcases)

Glad they're doing the one thing that was pretty universally asked for by players and not announcing features they don't know they can deliver. The "Wild" update did raise false expectations, so much so, that something "Wild"ly terrifying as the warden and deep dark success became overshadowed by something of a failure in a not-so-"Wild" -feature as the birch forest. Its like a child saying a cake is not tasty, because they bit in the 2% part of the cake which had candle wax over it.
