From what I've found if you have fe2 on 6 then check with all metal mode it shows a -grunt for bottle cap,but if fe2 is on 0 with all iron on then you get a 14-15 reading. Conclusion fe2 is better used in conjunction with all metal.

Have you tried a higher recovery speed with the the same comparison (F2/FE)? I hunted the most iron loaded field about the same time the update came out: I had the best luck with a speed of 7 or 8 and F2 at 5. I think faster recovery speed is the difference with good and/or bad targets close together.

Hey Jeff, i dont remember but i know from hunting with it that F26 is great for coin hunting but not the best for old relic sites. On old relic sites i like a low iron bias so i stick with FE0. You will dig more trash but its great at separating. When i go to fields or parks i like F26 because it really does good at cherry picking.

Minelab recommends being in (horseshoe icon) all metal mode when using F2. Were you using all metal mode in your tests? I tried the update / F2 with and without all metal mode and ALL I DUG was iron and aluminum. I got better results before updating by notching out various numbers. I experienced trash having good tones and numbers while using 5 tones, auto ground balance, 20 to 22 sensitivity, park 2, with and without all metal. Something's not right...

The F2 settings are better in my opinion. They are the upgraded iron bias that is used on the new 700/900. F26 is pretty high though but it will definitely help ignore large iron. F24 would be better to start and your can go up or down from there.

Your close bottle cap investigation dillema.. make me wonder about some signals I remember.. Might be a good idea to do a decent above ground run down of your strategy to get used to what stuff sound like "their distribution" and it's effect.. Gonna be a good season!! Only thing that the last update made me aware of and I think it's a good thing to remind folks of.. None of the multi modes include 40Khz on either machine(The only mode I could use for nickels on the last update).... Keep that in mind because I know sometimes if your strategy is to start homing in onto the finest stuff like broken earnings etc.. you would want to use 40Khz exclusively.

If you are running heavy Fe or F2 on a colonial sight with heavy square nails, you will miss non ferrous guaranteed, been there, done that. I run 0 FE + F2 in cellar holes in all metal and have had great luck in Western Massachusetts. Of course not many bottle caps a mile in the forest on a remote hole. If I hunted close to civilization, I think the FE and F2 would be useful, to a point, like in a Park or school location. I still dig some curvy square nails or a clump of them, or square nails with big heads can sound like buttons. so ya, I dig a lot of square nails. But most of them just give an iron grunt in all metal. No need to crank your sensitivity either targets aren't that deep here. Digging more nails means more Colonial relics, buttons and of course coins. Its nice to know you aren't missing the find of a lifetime because of too heavy iron bias.

Hey Jay, i use FE 0 mostly. They work one or the other if you have it in F2 is using F2 if you have it on FE then its only using FE. I would t use F2 0 as thats even more negative then FE0. The f2 program scares me a bit. I am no expert in the technology of minelabs multi frequency, but I am drawing my conclusion to common sense and principles of basic metal detecting discrimination. The stock program detects most bottle caps with a broken tone that is pretty simple to hear. There are some caps that have come up a solid 13 to 15 range that have fooled me. The f2 program supposedly does something to help discriminate out bottlecaps which ring up between 13 to 15 in the gold range. That is what scares me. When you use the F2 program you are masking out a certain type of metal that rings in the gold range. I would rather know that something is buried in the ground and to be given a choice of wether or not I want to dig that target. With the f2 program, you arent given a choice to dig because the program masks it out so that you dont even know its there. If you have a gold ring on top of an iron nail it could mimic the footprint of a bottlecap. Scary.
