Even though I know all of these, I will never get bored of a mine buoy video, this is so intuitive and relaxing, will help a lot of new players understand with the clear and concise editing. I think that the idea of 'patterns' in minesweeper should be extended to guessing situations like this, with common patterns having a solution that you should just know on the spot, for mastery and speed alike.

And then things get complicated when "boardstate characteristic #3" isn't satisfied... I learned something about Obelus2 today, great!

Not sure whether I have commented this already somewhere on your videos: What about if you do not start in the corner but in tile diagonal of the corner? If it's a 0 you have more information gain than if you clicked the corner. If it is a 1, you can click the corner to have more guaranteed information gain as only 1/8 risk. If it is a 2 or more, you start in another corner. I like this more, since with a corner start even a 1 forces you to go to another corner already. I haven't worked out the maths behind this yet, but it seems like it might be worth a try.

I feel like I must be missing something; I don't understand how you make the jump from the probabilities being the same to the conclusion of picking the k+1 option tiles or how one would even be able to figure out the chance of progress without brute force. also the ObelusB configuration you never say what the best move is so I'm not really sure how one would progress there

0:26 wdym Rank 7 in the world is noob 💀. Great video as always, as feedback I suggest you make more simpler videos. Although these kinds of videos are so fascinating and would love to see more of them, the common Minesweeper player that plays in his free time will memorize positions and learn calculations, but rather use very simple methods that requires no calculating maybe just memorizing 1 or 2 general tricks. Other then that there is also the idea of making gameplay videos, just playing while explaining some stuff here and there, it really encourages people to play themselves . There is also streaming on KZfaq if you have time, streaming while playing, it attracts people and makes them wanna play the game themselves and see how they do in it. A bit tall lol but hope it's useful.

I always play minesweeper just for fun and to exercise my logical thinking... But this shows me I have a long way to go. And frankly, it scares me. In the "oh god being efficient is gonna need a lot of number crunching. do i wanna be that efficient? brain says yes. it also says no because it will no longer be fun to me" kind of way. It's like sudoku all over again man.

The evaluation you use in these videos seems slightly flawed to me. If you hit a mine that's a guaranteed loss, whereas progress is likely to lead to other guesses - it's only a chance at winning. It seems to me that a guess with less chance of both progress and losing would be better than one with the same slope but more proportionally more chance of both. Even without outright progress "cheaper" guesses will likely clarify the situation. This is rarely relevant for the moves you are comparing, but it could swing things for some moves. I'm going off of intuition here, so I could easily be missing something.
