Thanks for watching! The log awaited CarPlay Part 3 - The Setup!
Be sure you know what system you have before ordering. Here is the link to the one I bought:

** Remember to select the correct system for your car (EVO, NBT, CIC) **
A couple of tips for your setup which I recommend:
1. Program one of your buttons on the system to switch to Aux-In for audio
2. Make sure you have Bluetooth on the iDrive system switched off
** Recommended Channels **

Thanks for the video, i used your instructions to install a CarPlay unit in my 2017 Mini Cooper. I think i have found a solution for the low volume which i also encountered. Essentially, i use Apple Music as my preferred music choice not Spotify. If you go to settings on the iphone - and scroll down to music and click to enter the setting of music , I would turn off sound check, this has basically solved my issue with low volume. The sound isn’t as loud as pre-CarPlay but is much much better. Not sure it works for Spotify but as sorted my issue out

Brilliant - great to hear you got yours installed, following along and thank you for the tip for the volume...I’ll need to check for the equivalent for Spotify as it’s the missing piece of the puzzle to make it perfect!

Thats a cool option! You could retrofit the bigger screen in the future.

Thanks! Yeah, I’d love the bigger screen...but they’re just so expensive - I’m not even that bothered about a touchscreen (bit OCD with fingerprints) but I’ll keep me eye out for one on eBay.

Hi Jamie, if you press the idrive main controller when the ‘Aux In’ is selected on the idrive system, you can adjust the volume here too, 0-20. Plenty loud enough when raised to 20, but I am old

I have this. If your using spotify or Apple music there is are settings on the app to play higher quality music. That seems to help. Also turn volume on phone all the way up as well as checking for audio out settings on phone. My s21 ultra has settings on phone to change bass,treble, and style of music. It helped.

Thanks for the great video. I have connected my Carplay box to my 2014 Mini Cooper S and everything works fine except for the DAB Radio. When I come out of Carplay and press any of the DAB buttons I get No Signal on the screen. If I press the button for the local DAB station that works as long as it is away from buildings. If I remove the Carplay box then all the DAB staions work fine. I have had the box replaced but no difference. Do you have any idea what could be wrong and does your DAB work OK. Sorry for the long message

Thanks for these videos been a real help, I have just bought my wife a Cooper 5 door downsizing from a 2018 clubman Cooper D that had stock car play, the only thing missing from 5 door, and she is missing it, would you recommend installing this system? Our cooper 5 door has Nav. Thanks again. 👍

Hi Chris! Great to hear you’re enjoying the videos and finding them useful! I would recommend installing this system, check out the supplier I listed and they can advise which system to buy (EVO etc) but the Home Screen gives a good indication on which model you have.

Hey jamie, thanks for the shout out. Question.... When using google maps, do you still have the touch screen function, or do you need to use the centre controller?

Mine is not a touchscreen unfortunately, so you need to either use the iDrive controller or the buttons on the steering wheel.

How did this go with the reverse camera? I updated ours to the larger screen but the factory fitted camera no longer works. They sent me a cable but said I have to cut and convert it to fit with no guidance as to how.

Thanks for posting this - I got an F55 Cooper S last weekend and these videos are really useful! You mentioned that the audio was quiet when using CarPlay. How quiet are we talking? Is this a problem or just something slightly annoying? Thanks.

Hi Chris. I’ll try and get some royalty free music and post an update this weekend. I’ll compare the AUX IN vs the radio vs the standard Bluetooth connection to iDrive. I would say it’s annoying but not a deal-breaker...it’s the fact as well that it doesn’t maintain the volume of the aux when restarting the system.

@@TheSJamG that would be awesome - thanks 🙏! Annoyingly the one I got has only got the visual boost head unit and no nav, so will probably get the CarPlay upgrade soon, but it would be a bit of a shame if my options were loud music and get lost, or quiet music and know where I’m going!

I have just got a 2014 Mini Cooper. Will this system work for me? my screen looks similar to yours but doesnt have the stock nav system? Im sorry if this is a stupid question, im a novice at things like this. Would it be something I could install myself with not much knowledge of cars? :). cheers

Did someone have the problem that carplay box went to black screen? I've installed this box a month ago and everything worked fine, until one day it stopped working and went to a black screen when I'm entering the carplay box menu (Press home button for 3 sec). At the same time idrive system works perfectly fine.

Yes, charges the phone and connects CarPlay.

Hi I just installed my CarPlay and it was working for a few minutes but then I tried to connect to the iPhone screen link where it just froze and when i tried to restart it , it wouldn’t come back. Please help I’m so sad and frustrated as I spent soo much time and money but idk why this happened

Sorry to hear it’s not quite working for you, I would disconnect and re-connect all the cables into the box - making sure they are all correctly seated and round the correct way. Failing this, it may be a faulty box and best to contact the seller.

Do you connect the iphone through the regular MINI usb port or through the new usb from the carplay unit?

Hi Jamie whether it’s me being dull but when you exit the system and you go back to the original multimedia screen , how do you go back to CarPlay can’t seem to work it out , let me know thanks

Hi Dave. If it’s the same box as mine, you should just need to press and hold the Menu button, then you’ll hear a faint click and it should display
