Mini Cooper Union Jack Tail Light Error Code Removal

5 жыл бұрынI finally got around to coding out the error codes that show up when upgrading the tail lights on y 2016 F56 MINI Cooper JCW from the circle lights to the Union Jack ones.
I use bimmercode (you should buy the full version of this app to support the developer on his awesome work!) and a vgate bluetooth ODB connector with my smartphone. Below are the steps needed:
1. Plug in ODB connector and connect via bluetooth to your phone
2. Launch the Bimmercode app
3. Go into the Front Electronic Module/Car Access System category in basic mode
4. In the voltage monitoring section, make sure the Tail Light Monitoring is set to LED and not monitoring
5. Change into expert mode
6. Go to the 3061 LcxOutputChannels2 section
7. Find and set BL_R_IS_LED = aktiv
8. Find and set BL_R_WARMUEBERWACHUNG = nicht_aktiv
9. Find and set BL_R_KALTUEBERWACHUNG = nicht_aktiv
10. Find and set BL_L_IS_LED = aktiv
11. Find and set BL_L_WARMUEBERWACHUNG = nicht_aktiv
12. Find and set BL_L_KALTUEBERWACHUN = nicht_aktiv
13. Now tap the code button in the app.
14. Your ECU may restart and your engine will shut off.
15. Power off the car.
16. Power back on the car and you should not see any errors!

Just to say that the latest version of BimmerCode ver. 3.0 (9401) is a lot different than described by The Mini Vlog. It is in English not German. Select 'Body Domain Controller'/Voltage Monitoring/Adaptive Brake/Brake/Indicators Rear, then choose LED and NON-Active monitoring. The new version appears to adjust both LH and RH lights together. Also in this version, these settings do not require to go into expert mode. Depending on latest Pre 2018 facelift model you have, the Tail Lights may already be set for LED.

Thanks for this it was huge help and appreciate its a few years old now but still really useful. Share my experience with uk 2017 cooper s 5 door 67 reg. I think the model was near a big update so already has some rear led lights but not brakes and reverse. Used the latest version of bimmercode and as previous poster it is a lot easier now. Some of my rear light settings were already set to led but i went via BODY DOMAIN CONTROLLER and then there is a long list including LED CONVERSION. I had to change the brake lights and brake force display and reversing lights all to active. The other tail light settings were already active. Coded and the car reset. That was it all working. Thanks again.

Nice work 👍🏻 My lights are still showing errors, and BMW here in uk, are suggesting additional wires may be required. I’ve been told by my dealership that electrical current is pulled, so the error isn’t the only problem they are having. I still love my mini I just wish I’d known about it before I installed, I’ll put up with it for now and see what they say in future.

I've installed the UJ lights today on my UK 2017 F56 JCW and made the code changes suggested here and everything has worked fine. I did read in a couple of places that you need to already have LED lights to replace with UJ LED's, but I've not explored this any further as mine seem to work ok. I used an iPhone XS Max with Bimmercode and vgate WiFi OBD2 adapter to make the changes. I think there is maybe a typo in step 6 above, as I found the expert settings in 3061 not 3016. Not sure if this is specific to a UK Mini. Also for step 3 had to go to "Body Domain Controller" ECU and the section was "Voltage Monitoring", but this was easy to find and again not sure this is UK specific or affected by some other software version onboard.

One thing people should know about aftermarket tail lights is if you previously programmed your rear reflectors to be brake lights, this will mess with a lot of aftermarket lights and the brakes won't work which will cause the same error. You must code the rear reflectors to the original: 3065 in Body Domain Controller - MAPPING_BREMSL_2_L_OUTPUT/MAPPING_BREMSL_2_R_OUTPUT must be set to "bfd_L"

Any thoughts comments on a Vland LED Tails Lights with Amber Dequential Turn Signal - Red installed on Mini Cooper Roadster S 2015 where I am seeing intermittent message pop up and go away with no consistency for recently replaced left and right rear tail light?

I have a 2022 Countryman with all red plastic union jack rear lights. When turn signals used, following cars see right light lit but image of red arrow pointing left; when left rear light for turn used, following cars see red arrow pointing right. Can the steps shown here correct these errors so a yellow sideways T has the long end of the T flashing in the direction of the turn? Please let me know and where in the Washington, DC or New York City area I can go to have the process using BDO connector done on my car.

Today I randomly got chatting to a guy from Munich who owns a mini, turns out he works for BMW, he says it’s BS what I’ve been told, and that I should go ahead and just get the error removed. I trust what he says as he is a project manager and seemed very knowledgeable. I’ll go back once again to “Dick Lovett - BMW dealership here in uk” and insist they do it. Ps.. yes that’s actually their name.. no jokes

Does anyone know how to do this but for the fog lights? I had them removed. I have an error code for that and I changed my halogens to led bulbs and they also have a code :(

Hi thanks for the fantastic video, I have recently replaced the Halo LED headlight for my 2019 F56 and it does not come on at all, do I need to code it in a similar way?

I have not done the headlights but I think I saw on the forums there def needs to be coding and maybe a physical device placed inline in the wiring. I'll look for that conversation thread and post it as a reply to this comment if I can find it again

Hi, Hopefully my question at the right spot. I'm installing a trailer hitch connection on my 2011 R57 Cooper S Convertible. Is it possible to "learn-in" or correct settings for the extra Electrical trailer/Bike rack connection (to avoid errors) via the OBD connected device and App?

I’m late to the game, however I purchased genuine mini UJ lights for my f57 convertible mini and installed them yesterday and did ALL the coding correctly, however, I’m not getting any break lights!?! I’m not sure what’s happened or why the break lights are not working but everything else is. I’m also in the UK do not sure if the coding is different to US? Thanks for your help.

What was the part number for your lights? I think there might be a slight difference due to the difference in laws so the brake/blinker here are different. So let's start with your part number for the lights so I can see if it's the same or different there?

@@TheMINIVlog I went to my local official Mini dealer yesterday and was told that you can fit the new union jack tail lights even though your Mini doesn't come with LED lights from factory :-)

Yes they definitely physically fit and I bet with the use of the coding app, you can probably make them work. I don't know if the same sequence would work for that. If you try it and the same steps work, let me know?!

Hey one question, how do you treat your seats? Cause the leather looks like it’s never been touched or something... And now to the new rear lights... I don’t know if there are any differences between Germany and other countries and that but the turn lights goes on with the brake lights together is it normal?

I clean and treat the entire car with the ammo line of products and this is the interior kit I use twice a year on the car www.ammonyc.com/shop/ammo-interiorregimen-kit/ The brake/blinker thing is really kind of annoying but you see it on a lot of US cars and trucks. For all the regulations we have with lights here, I am really surprised that is not one (brake/blinker lights have to be separate). Hello i have OBDlink LX Bluetooth, and I can't get it to connect to bimmercode. I haven't purchased the bimmercode pro. Can you help me understand if it is my OneLink LX or the fact that I have not purchased the pro version of the bimmercode?! Best regards 😉

You will need to close all other OBD apps. If still unable, reset the OBDLink LX and reconnect the bluetooth to your phone. A paid version of Bimmercode is required to code your car.

I think all other Countrys have to code the rear indicators also. Because they are using yellow Bulbs and should be swiched to LED. Otherwise they will indicate with higher frequency.

Hey there! I successfully added and coded the new LEDs to my 2016s but when I got the JCW tuning kit, the dealership reset the code, tried their own LED conversion code and now they don't work. They light up but do not work when stepping on the brake or for indicators or hazards. I have tried all the settings in Bimmer Code and can't seem to get them going... Any ideas are greatly appreciated. If I can't figure it out, I'll have to go back to the dealer to get them to reset my coding, allow me to code the LEDS with the app and then have them re-apply the JCW tuning... Not ideal. Please help. :)

Hmmmmmmmmm we don't want to mess with the jcw tuning.... If the code for the light is not working, you might need to bring it back to the dealer and ask them to fix it. These are OEM tail lights, yeah?

I have a R56 2007 cooper S and installed the union jack tail lights. when i turn on the running lights they flicker but the turn signal and brakes lights work fine with no flicker. I have the bimmercode and the OBII Bluetooth adapter, i went in and set all to LED but i still get flicker when the running lights are on. any advice on what i should change to stop the flickers on the running lights?

update: when i started the car the running lights are completely off and only the left side has a small portion of the T is on. the rest of the taillights are off. the brake lights work when i press the pedal and the turn signals work fine but i have no running lights.

Oh and instead of the lights malfunction message that you get when the CPU restarts i get a driver stabilisation error warning message 🤷🏻♀️

I know this has been quite awhile already but just an ask Mini Vlog. I tried this one and works the first time. After running it for like 100kms. The error happened again. Using a Vgate bluetooth 4.0 with bimmercode. Just an ask if the codes are dropping? Meaning going to previous settings?

When you plug in bimmercode, has it reverted your codes on you or are the settings still there? If the settings are still there, then there might be an additional setting we missed.

Hiya. Could you please advise me I have fitted the new UJ lights and understand your instructions to recode. My lights when I first start up the engine they flash for about 10 seconds. Is this normal and will this stop after recording or is this another falt. Any help appreciated thank you Glenn

Are you positive your vgate is connected via to your phone? Mine does not indicate it's connected when it actually is so it took me a while to learn how to connect it properly and make sure it's connected each time. Let me know and we can troubleshoot from there

Can you send me the link to the connector you have? The paid/free version of the app should not matter. I had some trouble with connecting my adapter too.

That one is compatible with bimmercode and Android. I do have an issue with mine where I connect it via Bluetooth to the phone but it never shows a Bluetooth device is connected in the toolbar at the top. Despite that it will be available to bimmercode when I launch that. Are you using Android? Does it connect to your phone in Bluetooth and not show up?

Hi there I have just had my mini at the BMW dealership to have the Union Jack lights installed on my Mini Cooper S 2017. They keep telling me they can't code the brake lights to work due to my after market apple carplay installed. Have you heard this or should I just try coding this myself?

I have bought my bimmer device and went to code and won’t connect to my car. Seems the Apple CarPlay unit is some how blocking it. Thinking I might need to have it disconnected code the lights and the reconnect CarPlay.

Hi ! I have a Mini Cooper F55 (5 doors Hatch) from April 2018, and I just swapped the originals taillights to UJ lights. I've succeded in fixing the blinking light, using your tips and Bimmercode app. But unfortunately, I always have the same error message on the control panel : "left brake lamp and right brake lamp malfunction". Do you have any idea to fix it, please ? thks a lot.

Hi! I have a mini coupe r58 (got bimmercode) I change the bulbs to leds, the ones that are up from the fog lights. I cant take the error, can’t find it in the list in the bimmercode app, do you know how? Thanks!!

Good morning. I have a 2017 F56 S, I followed all instructions, but I still have an issue when I turn on the left or right indicators, while applying my brakes, the brake lights come on, and the blinking indicator dims. Help.

I did all this and the error message is still there but there isn’t an actual message it’s just the little orange triangle in the corner and nothing else ? How do I remove it??

There's an issue where the brake light overrides the blinker here in the US market with full red led uj lights (the UK/EU uj lights have the amber horizontal bar for blinker and narrow vertical bar closest to the license plate for brake lights so they don't have the issue). Please have someone in the car while you record the video and have them turn on the blinker annd leave it blinking and then apply brakes and hold the brakes. In my case that caused the brake light to light up and stop blinking which could cause serious issues in traffic. As soon as the brake is released the blinker starts blinking again. There's is a code for that too on one of the forums so I was able to change it and now it works as intended but everyone please confirm that you don't have this issue and if you do please change it - I forgot the exact code since I did it like 6-8 months ago but if you guys need it let me know and I'll find it and post it. 1. Go into Body Domain Controller and stay in basic mode 2. Set the following to Not Active in the voltage monitoring section: Reversing light left warm monitoring Reversing light left cold monitoring Reversing light right warm monitoring Reversing light right cold monitoring 3. Code and test I think maybe just warm monitoring would do it but set both cold and warm to cover all the bases here. Give it a try for a couple days and let me know. My next step would be to set it from bulb to LED but I'm not sure that is correct as I think the reverse is actually a bulb.

I think it's fine with the error, I don't see why or how it would do any damage to the car. Could you give the free version of bimmercode a try? I think that should help you clear the error....

The MINI Vlog i did what you wrote on this vlog and I’m still getting a left turn signal error code. I’m going to assume that this is for F56 without the LED in the car. I just wish it worked as i don’t need an Oklahoma state trooper pulling me over for something about my taillights. I don’t have anyone to actually record or show me what it does. What is it that the error is showing? I’m guessing i still have brake lights but something looks different in the back

Yes the brake light and blinker still worked despite the error which was being triggered at start-up when it checked the voltage of the bulb. I wouldn't drive it long like that but I was able to drive a couple days with it

I don't think these lights will physically fit in the R-series cars....? There are ones that are made specifically for the R-series (I don't think by MINI) and I am pretty sure those are plug-n-play and don't require coding. But don't quote me on that. Let me know if you end up getting some!

The MINI Vlog I swapped my halogens to LED headlights on my R60. Every time I start up I get Right/Left high beam malfunction error message. The lights work, but I would need a load resistor to cancel out the message. I am hoping to not use cumbersome resistors and use Bimmercode. Does Bimmercode have the option to code out the message for the lower power draw of LED headlights?

I have some problem with my new Mini Cooper F55 2016 I ordered the original Union Jack tail light and I connected them and then turned on the engine, Then he gave me the same malfunction error as in the video. but my lights weren't working right at all! My normal tail light went over the brake lights so they burned without braking, very strange.. my normal light(the vlag) didn't work at all. But my indicator lights and reverse lights worked fine. Can I solve this with the same device you used? I hope someone can help me out! Dealers charges €200 euros for a simpel problem as this :O Viva dealership in Holland!

In the past you could use the free version. I believe now you might need the full version. I can't say for sure as I have the full version so I don't see what the free version locks down these days.
