►The valve-cover-integrated PCV system is a recent development for automakers. While great for packaging, their lives are notoriously short (around 60,000 miles), so valve cover replacements are a regularity for cars with them. The R56 MINI Cooper has just such a valve cover, so if you would like to drive it, you may want to become familiar with this process.
Although the plastic valve cover may get brittle and crack, it's more likely that the PCV will fail or the gasket will leak before that happens. Regardless, you must replace the valve cover to alleviate the issue. Failing to replace the PCV when it is no longer effective can lead to failed oil seals, leaks, and increased oil consumption, so be sure to get it repaired as soon as possible. The replacement process takes some fiddly work but nothing remotely intense, so expect a straightforward job.
