Run the step bit though from the other side to remove burrs from the hole. I like the stapler for the smaller areas and where the surface is not smooth but stainless screen melted in from behind in areas where you have a flatter surface and more space. It will be much stronger because there is more surface area and it spreads any strain on the joint over a larger area.
@GrindHardPlumbingCo
@GrindHardPlumbingCo 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve tried the screen method as well, and it definitely works, but it more of a pain.

@@GrindHardPlumbingCo a good technique with the hot stapler is when it melts in, give it a little twist. That buries the staple under the plastic so it's less likely to pop out of the thinner, weaker plastic that you melted through

12:55 Thats what its like to be a good electrician. Full on wire ocd... It is so satisfying creating order from a birdsnest of wires that make everyone elses brain shortcurcuit! First thing I did when I bought my '86 suzuki was to simplify and redo the entire wireloom... And everyone asks why my old bike allways start first time trying, never discharges during winter and never has any electrical problems! -Well, thats what you get when you remove old jumbled wires and assorted cheap connectors, remove all safety switches like kickstand and clutch switches on the starter curcuit etc and solder plus heatshrink every connection, using wires a gauge bigger than needed according to the manual... A simple waterproof loom with as few connectors as possible is the key to happiness! :D

One thing we do at the body shop I work at, is we melt a small rectangle of aluminum screen into the plastic, across the seam to reinforce the joint, like the hot staple. That being said, our plastic welding iron is actually a large, utility cable soldering iron, so YMMV.

Get a set of ratcheting crimpers. Then you are insured of a full crimp. And as you likely know not all crimp terminals are made equal. A good pair of strippers that wouldn’t nick the wires are also worth it. In critical situations they even use thermal strippers with dull ends. But I digress. 😉

I used broken off normal stables since those are pain in the ass when you try to get them to feed, or just used stabler to bend them as in to connect two papers and used soldering iron to heat them into plastic. Worked fine and cost next to nothing. Rather nice method if you need to fix some plastic in hurry.
