R410a is a cocktail of 2 refrigerants which ons has it lost ,the remaining refrigerant should be recovered and a fresh charge installed ,if it 6 months old doesn't say a lot about the installation

Thanks, I have one that did not seal. I tightened it and still not seal. I have now got over 300 ft-lb on it and still no seal. Now I can take it back down and redo the factory flare. Thank you for posting.

Do recommend recovering all the refrigerant and then charging by factory weight? Otherwise any recommendations for taking subcool/ superheat readings to properly charge if you choose to pump down and top off since often can not get access to high side pressure readings?

I just installed one in my house, I pulled a vacuum, it's been holding at negative pressure for 6 hours but my micron guage jumped immediately after turning off my vacuum.

You don’t top off a mini split guys don’t do this you pull the charge a weigh in your amount. That isn’t a liquid line either both pipes and the indoor unit are your evap coil in cooling because the eev is on the outdoor unit.. a lot of misinformation here study up to learn the right way.. save our industry!

I'm picking this unit should be "left piped" but wasn't. Properly piped in the first place means flares will NEVER be hidden in the wall cavity.

Would pumping down a system with a leak run a risk to suck air in along with the refrigerant into the condenser?

Both lines are suction lines

#1-always cut out the flares and sweat all joints with silfos 15. #2-thats an r410 system, so you have to remove the existing refrigerant. If you try topping up the charge it will ramp up the discharge pressure to 600 and trip the compressor internal overloads. Leave the air conditioning to a professionally licensed journeyman refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic, not plumbers, electricians or sheet metal mechanics. Btw- those aren't flares, they have o-rings.

i cant believe this guy is telling you to add refrigerant into an unbalanced mixture. you need to purge the whole system and vacuum it, then weigh in the factory recommended amount. who is this clown?
