Yet another immensely helpful offering from you, Mr. Harrison! I was having so much difficulty with my torch, and it turns out I was using way too much oxygen. Thanks again for all you teach and share. One day when I'm home in Brisbane, I'll fly over to WA and somehow study with you!

Ah, I see that the hose fittings for a torch this size don't need an adapter to fit the regulator fittings. Good vid!

Hi! Love your videos! So informative and I thank you for all of them. I just set up an oxy/ acetylene smith little torch and am having a bit of trouble with it. When I am finished using the torch and turn the oxygen off, then the acetylene, the flame becomes tiny at the tip for a few seconds and then goes out with a pop similar to an acetylene atmospheric air torch handle. I did not think that this smith little torch would do this and have adjusted pressures and such but it still happens. I have smith regulators and flashback arrestors in place. I have been unable to find answers with searching so I thought I would ask. Thank you so much for any information you may have!

the valves are leaking at the handle, when you shut off the gas there shouldn't be any flame. it isn't dangerous if you have flashback arresters.just annoying

Does this require welders mask darkened glasses? See below, I tried the oxy/acetylene mini torch and it did not work, i.e break the glass cleanly after scoring, even so the flame was so bright I had to use a much scratched welders helmet? Is your torch not so bright?

Is it normal for the PSI on the oxygen to drop down once you open the torch?

Hi Soham, I need help in figuring out what torch to get as I work inside my home. Would you recommend using a torch inside the home that just has the propane tank such as an EZ Torch? I would love to get the smith little torch but I'm kind of fearful of the tanks inside my home. On the EZTorch, you can hook it up to a small camper size propane tank. I need a torch where I could do copper cuffs using hard or medium solder and would love to get your opinion on which torch. I have a butane torch now and it won't melt the hard solder. If you know of a butane torch that would at least melt medium solder, that would be extremely helpful. You're an awesome teacher and I watch your videos frequently to learn all I can. Thanks for your response.

the lpg-air torches are ok for using at home, but you need a big flame to do the things you can with the oxy, lpg ones. they are difficult to use for fine work, but can do quite a lot. just crank it up!

Hello, I have a job at work that involves cutting 1/2" diameter Pyrex glass tubing to a certain length, + / - .005". Hundreds of pieces. Have seen videos on youtube using carbide tool and torch. We have a mini oxy/acetylene set up, if I kept the flame going like yours, how long would the gasses last? I want to make these pieces as quickly/ accurately. Will try to use the lathe with digital readout. Will I eat up too much time if I turn the torch off every time? I have looked at propane/butane torches with instant on/off, but they do not have the oxygen? Great informational video, I am going to suggest it to some of the postdocs we have! Especially the part about "snug", everyone wants to torque the hell out of things!!!

I have a question I have the preset regulators for the small tanks but I'm trying to switch to using a regular big propane tank you would use on a grill and a I got a 20 or 40cf oxygen tank. Now your video is the only thing I have found that shows the correct set up for this exact situation I want. I have oxygen and acetylene regulators for a regular oxyacetylene torch but I can buy a propane regulator if needed. But where do I find the adapters that you have hooked to your tanks that you hook your regulators to? And what are they called? I've never seen those. Was going to try to hook my regulators to the big tanks and my small smith torches to the regulators and try it that way. Good thing I watched this cuz idk what would happen.

Lol oh man nevermind that's just the top of your bottle. It looked like an adapter of some sort. So I just hook my regulators to the bottle and my mini torch to the regulators?

First of all I want to say how I enjoy your videos!!! Very well presented and you have such a great way of explaining things in an easy fashion. I was wondering about the oxy / lpg disposable tanks - I noticed in other videos, these type of tanks have no regulators on them. Do I need to purchase regulators to fit on these or do regulators only apply for the refillable tanks? Also, can anyone rent those large oxygen tanks or do you need some kind of license for that (just wondering)? Thanks ahead for your time! Angelica

there are regulators on the disposable tanks, but they are non adjustable. depending on where you are, you can either rent or buy the tanks without a license usually

soham harrison The disposable oxygen tanks contain only 1.4 oz/40.1g. This locally costs me $10 in at home depot. New York. One or two sessions and the pressure is below what the flashback arrestors require to maintain oxygen flow. I bought an oxygen cylinder on EBay for $65 that holds 20lbs of oxygen. I also bought a Smith oxygen regulator from Cyberweld for $85. I exchanged for a full tank for $20. BIG SAVINGS. Make sure you shop for a plastic caddy to hold your disposable propane and oxygen cylinder, to keep them upright and safe.

Hi Sonham! Thanks for all your videos! Would you be so kind to answer one question? Can I connect the oxigen bottle and the propane bottle without using the gauges? I live in Dubai and is not easy to find those things here. I can find the torch but it comes without the gauges... Is possible to connect directly the regulator to the hose? Thank you so much!

i got another question too mr if my acetylene tank falls over for 5 minutes can i pick it up and use it right away
@matthew-8674

Gerald Ellis No, not right away!! I was told by a rep at AirGas that an acetylene cylinder that has been on it's side ( okay for transport with valve closed and capped, should be open air, not in trunk or cab) should be left alone vertically for 6 or 8 times the amount of time that it was horizontal. You do NOT want liquid acetone to flow from the bottle. Always be overly cautious as it is the most dangerous compressed gas available if not treated properly. I transported it horizontally in a pickup bed secured with straps to a hand truck. When I got home (1 hour trip), I righted the bottle and left it alone until late the next day to be sure. Best of luck and do some research on it, I was amazed at how much there is to know about acetylene and precautions. ALWAYS USE FLASHBACK ARRESTORS!!

REQUIRED by law in New York. Without them your fire insurance will not pay in case of fire. Shop around on the internet. I bought a pair made by Smith. They do not last forever, so replace them when you replace your hoses after four years. Sooner if you have flashbacks.
