Cool Forgotten Weapons merch! shop.forgottenweapons.com
In the mid 1950s, the Nationalist government on Taiwan was in serious need of small arms, and decided to set up production of the Sten gun. They had the facilities of the 44th Arsenal outside Taipei, which had been relocated there from the mainland in 1948. For some assistance, the government hired a US Army officer as a consultant, and as part of the production setup, they built half a dozen miniature but fully-functional Stens in .32ACP. One of these came home with the US officer, and was registered in the 1968 Amnesty.
The magazine well has the proper symbol of the 44th Arsenal, and they gun has two specific irregularities compared to a standard British Sten. The fire control housing is triangular instead of rounded, and it has no semiauto selector switch. These features carried through to the fully production guns, as one can see on an example in the British Royal Armouries today:

@@kleinerprinz99 He's used old guns before that are not backup guns simply because the stages are generally set up where they can be done with a single magazine and for old guns he often only has a single magazine. So just because he doesn't actually qualify doesn't mean he won't run the stages with a weapon. Besides, without the stock i think this thing would actually fit the size requirements of most BUG match rules. The only real difference is being full auto which honestly is more of a detriment in most of these stages.

Hi, great video. When I was a kid, about half a century ago, my grandfather, an engineer, told me that making a scale model of a machine was the best way to get the tolerances right. You scaled it down, made it work, then when you scaled it up again, the tolerances would definitely work. This got round the problem you so often talk about, where the prototype has been finely fettled until it works, but that can't be duplicated in mass production.

Ah crap, here we go again with the endless argument of Taiwan. I'll just leave some facts here: > Republic of (NOT COMMUNIST) China won WW2 with the Allied Powers. > Taiwan was transferred to ROC on October 25 1945, and had elected representative in National Assembly in 1947. > Communist won the civil war, establishing PRC on October 1 1949, while the Nationalist ROC government retreated to Taiwan. > The so-called Martial Law period, which limited elections, gathering, forming political parties, publications and such, was lifted in 1987. That was actually more like state of emergency because the communists were taking over the mainland, and they’re still trying to eliminate the remaining ROC government and control Taiwan. > I’m still paying taxes to the government called Republic of China. So the only territory controlled by Republic of China are islands including Taiwan , Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu, and several really small outlaying islands. And there is currently no government body officially called Taiwan. People may change the government’s name with referendum, or revising the Constitution of Republic of China. However, neither has happened yet.

@@Spacecadet3890 NFA death list too. Its just like for way under $1k a year I can "legally" make hundreds (really unlimited) machineguns, suppressors, sawed off shotguns, pretty much you name it. However when you do that, you no longer are allowed to live in some states with what you own, you are not allowed to do a lot with them that you otherwise could. A $200 tax is one infringement, but its not the main thing, and making one small mistake while traveling (lets say a road closed so they force you to detour next to a state line, yeah you can now go to prison for that). "Hell yes we're coming for your AR-15, your AK-47s!", you think they won't come after your M16, your PKM or RPD? By signing that list you admit you have no right to own it, and they know exactly who's door to kick down just like Germany did with their national registration, or recently Canada when they are making all legal and licensed gun owners turn in their neutered 5 round rifles.

@@KingJohnMichael Ask Canada how its working out that the licensed gun owners registered there already neutered 5 round rifles... Ask Australia how its working out (even the water based orbies toys are restricted). Seems crazy right, but near me (still in the US), its illegal to own airsoft toys. How far do you think they will go? I already see it, it already effects me (and no you can't own airsoft there even if you have a spotless background). I know you're probably like another person that said "well airsoft can cause harm", and when I said Nerf was also illegal to shoot near me they also said "well that can cause harm too", so then I pointed out the water guns like super soaker that I played with as a child are also illegal to own, even if they are locked away in a safe, THEN they realized it wasn't about safety. I will gladly link you the statutes where airsoft is illegal to own near me, I will also gladly link county ordinances where using a slingshot or playing with Nerf in your own home or backyard is "discharging firearms within city limits", or how only police are allowed to carry slingshots or paintball guns (and I can't think of a single legitimate use for a pig to be carrying a slingshot, yet I can for children because I had loads of harmless fun with a slingshot shooting cans in a farm). Its not about safety, its about control. Also I'm libertarian you judgmental assuming person.

Yeah, when you're trying to stand up an army and an native arms production at the same time sometimes you just gotta make it and say "copy this." Otherwise you end up with one of those Chinese mauser simulacrums where the doesn't-flip-up sight blocks the actual sightline.

The reason it's an exact copy is because these type of models are an actual tool for production. In order, to get past the language and literacy barriers, tiny scale models were made so any workers that had questions could come to the model and measure the part in question. All you needed was to hold up 4 fingers and point to the model, no words or blueprints required. So in a way the actual production guns were enlarged models of this original gun.

In the 17th century highly detailed miniature models were how European navies kept design information for the production of new ships in addtion to drawings (which were not design documents as we'd know them). When the Dutch sucessfully raided the English navy at anchor in 1667 the Commissioner of the dock fled with the models to protect them. He was made the scapegoat for the defeat but without the models he saved the navy wouldn't have been able to replace the ships the Dutch burned.
