I have to agrea, the wing looks great! Also painted lexan looks better then I was affraid. And time will show if it is good material for this kind of use or not. So good progress, and thanks for sharing it!

Awesome stuff Dennis Cheers! To store that sexy looking wing, could you make a Sling & Hang it from your garage ceiling? Might be able to make it low enough to clear the door when it's up. Just a thought. Great video man.

Thanks Leo….you probably saw I was past that already and just kept it against the fuselage. Will have a little paint to touch up after getting it to the airport anyway

Dennis, I know you responded that you used plexiglass for the tank covers, because that is what the plans called for. I still believe alum or wood would have been much stronger, stable, and crack resistant.

I agree with you that down the road, this Lexan will crack at some point. Plexiglass would definitely be a problem!

Very nice looking wing! Interesting about the catch can----I think I know it as an "air-oil separator" maybe. Do you feel you need an oil cooler? I may put one on my VMax build for the 4-cylinder motor. I'll likely have to switch to Sitka Spruce from Aircraft Spruce for the rest of my build. I don't have a local source of vertical grain spruce or white pine. I do have good Douglas Fir locally, but I don't think I can afford the weight penalty, which I calculate may be as high as 60 pounds, based on data from TEAM.

I believe it cost me 15 lbs but you have a lot more lumber than I do. You could test it against spruce and factor a reduction in member size to save weight. Fisher has a great video on wood testing. My oil circulates around the intake through aluminum tubing for oil cooling. If the engine was cowled, it would probably need the oil cooler. Dennis Brooks installed on on his Hummel for that reason.

Hello Denise I am building a 1100r along with my grandsons. I am hoping to build it as a legal ultralight. I recall that you said you also built a 103 minimax. Did you also receive tail dragger training? Just wondering because you said that you were getting your tail drag endorsement for this current minimax.

I didn’t have taildragger training with my first Minimax. Flew off of grass and it was really well behaved. I did have a little flying time in a Luscomb but no comparison at all. After getting tailwheel training, 16 hours so far and all on asphalt runways. I’ll also be flying off of asphalt with my current max. I would recommend it to any pilot of any type of aircraft. At least some so you get a good understanding of adverse yaw and p-factor. Are you a Private Pilot now?

Yes I am a private pilot. My concern are my grandsons who are not pilots. They will need to train on a light sport aircraft to fly this as an ultralight. I do not know of any ultralight pilot training programs.
