This was a great first video. Can't wait to see what the next one you posted is like. I just joined a crystal/rockhounding dig club today and I'm hoping to join on their adventures soon. Interesting, thanks for taking us along! I had never heard of Apache tears at Ruby Mountain. I had never heard that Johnny Cash tune either! Ruby Mountain is one of my favorite places to combine motorcycling and rockhounding. There's a huge area to the east of Ruby mountain developed with motorcycle trails. One of the trails ends at Ruby Mountain. It's my favorite trail! 😉 I like to leave the garnets attached to the host rock for display.

This was my study area for my Master’s geology thesis. This area is gorgeous, and such a geologic curiosity. It’s a 30 million yrs old volcano and it’s so hard to pinpoint where the original vent is.

It makes me wonder how many people in Kansas are wincing every time you pronounce Arkansas correctly. I live in Ks, tho not always, and I sure took awhile learning to pronounce it wrongly. Around here, the Arkansas River along with everything else within our borders is pronounced Ar-Kansas. I don't know why but many things in this part of the country are named after other places already settled but it shore is pronounced funny. Love your channel. Just recently found. Now, subscribing today. 😊

Cool video. How long of a hike is it to where you can find the garnet? I would be hiking with our son on my back. I’m assuming if you stay on the trail it doesn’t get as steep as where you climbed to get the obsidian.

Obsidian looks different than apache tear stones. Apache tears looks almost like Obsidian snowflakes.

Those were obsidian here in Colorado not Apache tears. All Apache tears are obsidian but not all obsidian is Apache tears. I have boxes and boxes of Apache tears from Superior AZ when we did a USGS geology field trip. Share these with kids, schools and a great Halloween handout.

You don't have to go far there to find great crystals and gems. I got good garnet and ruby. Mount antero has great aqua and smokeys. Careful you ain't very safe on the ruby mountain territory. People I mean can be strange and loaded!

The true story of the trail of tears, in a nutshell! Our gov had indians on reservations. But a lot of gangs would go out at night from them and RAID the nearby ranches, farms & small towns. They killed many babies, women, elderly this way. But they now want everyone to believe we only killed them. NOT TRUE! The gov finally sent out Yellow Hair and we all know how that went. Then they made them all move to just a few major reservations, this the trail of tears. If indian chiefs hadn't shielded raider bucks from the law sent to round them up, the whole tribe wouldn't have had to move. They screwed themselves by aiding & abetting the murderers. It was the same on both sides!
