Today's lesson is all about how to get to grips with your scales and arpeggios over 'Minor Swing'. I cover 3 ways to approach soloing:
⚫️One scale you can use over the changes
⚫️Minor 6 arpeggios
⚫️Modes for Minor Swing
I cover ways you can work on your fretboard knowledge and practice these essential topics!
The backing track I'm using can be found here: • Minor Swing Gypsy Jazz...

you really seem to be better at telling and giving people what they need to almost anyone else, who tend to rush over the basics or give you not quite enough or esoterisize and give you tangential information that just destroys your confidence - or even give you all the scales you could ever possibly need in 17 minutes out of a fruitless but well-meaning desire to give you what you might need , thus destroying your ability to learn one scale! You also tell people how to approach learning. You deserve maximum credit. Then you have those who give you basic information and play something very fast and beautiful, again, destroying your desire to move on to the first step. I think you understand psychology and scaffolding. It could also be that your three techniques, especially finding the chord, are the best techniques for that song and perhaps any song.

I really enjoyed this minor swing lesson, it's probably the first time that this piece has been explained so well, it's very concise and it is not rushed (which often leaves one wondering what was played?) Thankyou Andy 🙏🏻

Just the first 4 minutes with the chord tones has enough information to practice and learn with for a week, I haven't even watched half of it but it's a great and helpful video already.

Glad to hear it. Yes, try to put in a couple of layers that you can build upon. That first way with the chord tones is a great platform to build on.

Andy super great improv ! I love it ! Im posting this on nylon but all I did is copy Djangos solo . My friend you have my amp and guitar the best combo in the world ! tele 65 DRR . you have perfect feel for this . I know everything you are doing but it always sounds forced when I do it . You are so smooth and have the feel

Which solo did you do? The 1937 one? The Tele and Deluxe are such a good fit. Learning after over 20 year of playing that Teles are my favourite model of guitar, so comfortable to play. In terms of not sounding forced. I understand what you mean. Maybe you need to internalise the sound more and work on hearing it more? You kind of have to learn this stuff to the point where you don't think it.

Thanks so much for the lesson! Probably a stupid question, but if your soloing over this chord progression with the A Harmonic Minor scale will it sound good specifically over Am6 (the 6th is not in the scale)? Maybe it's similar to a blues note but rather a gypsy note?
@jazzguitarwithandy
@jazzguitarwithandy 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, that's not a silly question. Over the Am6 we would be missing the F# and we have an F instead in the A harmonic minor. If I was just using that harmonic minor then I wouldn't resolve to that F, but use it as a passing note to the E. In that video I just wanted to show a simple way to play over the changes, I think that can be helpful. Later on you can mix and match different approaches. For instance, the A melodic minor would have that F# in or I might just think of the chord tones and then bring in some scale notes for passing notes or runs.
@ATothFTW18

@@jazzguitarwithandy That makes sense! Its alot to think about but very helpful. Good to know of the melodic minor as I haven't really ever looked at that scale. Thanks so much for the quick help. Keep up the great videos!
