Sister James (Amy Adams), concerned about Father Flynn's (Philip Seymour Hoffman) interest in one of the students, takes her concerns to Sister Aloysius (Meryl Streep). For more from Doubt: miram.ax/doubt
In the scene: Sister James (Amy Adams), Sister Aloysius Beauvier (Meryl Streep)
About Doubt:
Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the rigid and fear-inspiring principal of the Saint Nicholas Church School, suffers an extreme dislike for the progressive and popular parish priest, Father Flynn. Looking for wrongdoing in every corner, Sister Aloysius believes she's uncovered the ultimate sin when she hears Father Flynn has taken a special interest in a troubled boy. Without a shred of proof or evidence except her moral certainty, Sister Aloysius begins a crusade to both unearth the truth and expunge Flynn from the school, igniting a battle that threatens to tear apart the Church and school with devastating consequences.

Amy Adams is such an amazing actress. They picked the perfect girl to act meek, innocent, mousy, like she did in Enchanted

They both knew. One of the best lines in modern cinema is, "when you take a step to address wrongdoing you are taking a step away from God, but in his service." It's on par with "leave the gun, take the cannoli..."

Sister James is wonderfully innocent, not so naive however ...she already has her suspicions, hence even prompting this conversation as an opportunity to say something. Perhaps Sister Aloysius underestimates her somewhat! Everyone did such a terrific job, especially Streep, such a good film.

Harvey Weinstein gave up Miramax Films in 2005 after losing a case to its parent company Disney.. From then on, he created The Weinstein Company in order to produce and distribute movies. The Queen (2006), No Country For Old Men (2007), and Doubt (2008) are not Weinstein Company productions.

You would be surprised that in a study by Bayuk, a Jewish scholar, (Bayuk T., 2009), pedophilia and child rape is far more common in Protestant Churches. Around 600% more than in Catholic Churches. In fact the studies suggests that the rate is still lowest in the Catholic Church when compared to other groups (domestic, schools, scouts, mosques, etc) The Catholic Church has just taken a different approach by bringing it all out in the open. Thats why many of the reported cases are in the Catholic Church. But the unreported cases are much more exponentially.

@@bilalpashayev9257 It never explicitly says it, but the film has some pretty strong hints that he a molester. Early on, he shows the boy some weird little erotic toys of his, a common tactic used by molesters to lure in their victims. In the scene where he's eating dinner with the other priests, you see them eating extremely rare cuts of beef, possibly hinting at his taste for younger partners. And, of course, if he never abused boys at his previous parish, then why was he so scared when Streep's character said she called them? I'd say that the film leans prettily heavily towards that interpretation. Yes, the title of the film "Doubt" is about being uncertain in the priest's actions, but it's also about how the Sex Abuse Scandal cause so many devout Catholics to doubt the Church, as well as their faith in God itself. That's what Streep's character means at the very end of the film when she breaks down crying saying that she has "such doubts".
