throw it on 83 and hook to the nut its self or the hydrant. then hook to meters along the way or last case induce

Appreciate the advice! I'll experiment with 83 kilohertz the next time I locate the water main.

A GPR will definitely solve your headaches. Vivax 810/850 Metrotech, I think, is a better candidate to locate water. Radio detection is my first choice when it comes to locating, but not for water. Try going higher on your frequency, like 83 kHz, forcing the signal into the pipe. It has worked for me many times. As long as you’re the last guy out there, you should be safe. Talking about bleeding off to other utilities. Hooking up to a w/s and dropping the box technique never hurts to try. Happy Locating !!!

It's cast iron won't stick to it.

RD transmitters are not good for locating water.

Water in general is the hardest thing to locate. And in most cases, no matter what your gain is going to be high and your signal is going to be really weak, but it is possible. Also, a good rule of thumb is having everything else located out before locating the water due to the high amount of bleed off. Also, next time tried street, connecting to the fire hydrant itself it can sometimes give you a better signal, then connecting to the valve. Also trying to connect inside of a water service in the building.

That particular intersection is loaded with utilities I mean, loaded. The only way to locate cast iron is with the Pipehorn that's what I use in the city to locate all the gas mains that are cast iron. The problem with the water service is that there's nothing close by that ties into the main in that area since we border up to 3 different townships.

@@811chicago5 cast-iron is actually the hardest material to locate when it comes to water. You can get a perfect dead on signal, but still be 3 feet off. At least in my experience.

It is a possibility that it could just end like that, but what might happen is it continues but it's in another cities jurisdiction.

Print gives me measurements, which doesn't tie into that, so I'm just going off measurements.
