So sad, she had a long career on the lakes but can’t be saved from the scrap. There are a lot of ships that I’d love to see turned into museums, this one included, but it’s just not practical because of maintenance costs. 1943-2021, may the scrap metal go to a good place.

@@jeremycox571 now that her fate is sealed, that is the best place it would go to. Nothing beats the way these older freighters look, they are a lot prettier in my opinion.

#13 Back in 1971, while I was Helming the SS City of Green Bay, we encountered her several times. I believe that she is just worn out, like me. Waiting for my time.

Just think about it the people on the ship are probably thinking. Wow I’m going to be one of the last people on this ship.

If going all the way to the Soo, strange that it is more efficient to tow her, rather than have her run under her own power.....

Her company stripped her for parts so she couldnt run anymore. Also cause its cheaper

They are afraid that if they let her make the voyage on her own power, she might make a run for the border. Then they would have to sink her.

484berkshire Razor blades, cans for food and other things scrap steel gets turned into.

Mississagi is no longer with us she's no longer in service anymore, her work here is done.
