What I love about this tutorial is first it’s simplicity. And adaptability! I have a large machine and want to cover the table top! In addition, I used a tape measure across in front of the machine, sewed it on. And an exterior pocket for my cellphone. To keep the pens and ripper, I attached an elastic above the pockets. The pockets hold the brushes, and other things for the machine. Thank you for the tutorial .

I like that idea about the elastic to hold smaller items. I have plenty of that left over from the COVID-19 mask project.

Whwn I made my pad, I used clear plastic, folded the top down my 6 inches to form the pocket and still be able to see what;s inside, when I folded the vinyl in half, I stitched a clear tubing across the top to stabilize the top. I used oxygen tubing. I stitctched below the tubing. Just for fun, I sandwiched a few M&Ms inside the fold "just for emergency" and a decoration! Then divided into pockets at each end, using a double seam about 1/4 inch apart for security, one was wider to hold a pen. I left a large pocket in front to catch threads, etc or to store items that needed to be laying down. On another pad Imade, I sewed 2 loops one on each end. I put a dowel through the loops. I wind my binding material around a toilet paper roll, slip it over the dowel and my folded binding unrolls as I sew it on and doesn't get out of control for me!

Jenny, I have to say, you still have the best, easiest and cutest tutorials on the web. I searched ALL the videos for a sewing machine mat and yours was the best...and the one I chose to make. It has all the same attributes as all the others (old and new) but is the simplest to make. Why everyone else has to add so many extra steps and complicate things, I will never know. Thanks so much!

I made this mat right away two years ago and added a pincushion with ribbon and a button so I can take it off. I roll it up for carrying to sew with friends, and it's wonderful for all my stuff!! Now I am teaching my 10 yr old grand daughter to sew, and we are making one for her lovely new machine. Thanks again for my gift Jenny! X

Thank you Jenny. I am new to quilting (been sewing for 50 years) and your videos made it possible for me to make quilts for my two grandsons this year. I also made matching pillow cases using your tutorial and embroidered their names on the cuff with my sewing machine. I so enjoyed the process that I know I will continue to quilt...most likely watching your videos.

I have one of these that was made for me as a gift. It really helps with the vibration you experience when sewing on those plastic folding tables you find at retreats. Mine does have a pin cushion added with velcro on the side of the mat. My pockets on the right are narrow; seam ripper width; pencil width and small snips width, so they don't fall down and get lost. The big pocket is great for a candy bar or snack! My mat does not SLIDE. The machine I use it with is a Brother 6000i, and it is a light machine. I do lay a piece of "rubber shelf liner" under it to increase the absorption of the vibration.

Merry Christmas to you and your family. Nice looking family. Thankyou for your quilting video. I have made many quilts from watching your videos. I have made them all for family members. And some of the quilts I made were for family members fighting cancer, two in particular were already handed down a generation because I have had two brothers who were young pass away. 5 out of my 8 siblings have had cancer. In addition to many of their children,But on a brighter note, the niece and nephew cherish the quilts dearly. Thankyou again! Jenny for sharing all your wonderful videos. Take Care and God Bless! Jenny thanks so much for helping us to learn and share with us that imperfect can work, because we are not always perfect. That has worked for me as I have followed you to learn how to make bags. I am wanting to make a bag for a special friend but with the missouri star on either side and pockets on inside . The stars I have learned to add a picture to the center square of a special picture of us on one star and of a special sewing class in center of block on the other side. I am excited to think it possible but need you to help us learn how, might be good for tourists to make one of these or friend who wants to keep those special times close. I sure hope I explained myself so we can do this. Thanks so much for all you do to help us learn.

Thank you for this wonderful idea. I created a large crazy quilt rectangle with my left over fabrics then trimmed it to the size to fit under my sewing machine and long enough to have pockets. I put a small pocket on each side and a large one in the middle, so I have a place for my small scissors and seam ripper on one side and a larger pair of scissors on the other side and then there is room for other stuff in the middle. Then I bound it in a coordinating fabric. I just love the convenience!

THANK YOU, Jenny!! This tutorial on " The Gifted Sewing Machine Pad" is awesome, because you made it so clear how customize- able it is! I have not yet started my sew as you go quilt as I had hit a rough patch, and now I see why universe stopped me from starting with it. I want to make this pad first so things are super organized before I start, that way perhaps I will not be "pulling out frustrated "with myself and can "Jenny talk" myself through things better.I love the calmness surrounding you, even with the excited giggles with walking us through every blessed step, thank you so much. You are amazing, and the foundation of your company's transformation of a town, shows the power of love, how it shows up in so many ways that we least expect when we follow our passions and then share our gifts with the world. KUDOS!! I hear an angel team wildly cheering you on, whistles and air pumps and maybe even some jumping up and down... "Way to go JENNY and family and company!! WOOHOOOO,even. :)" and no, I am not exaggerating.Thank you so much for sharing your passion in quilting and bringing love to the world. :) The machine pad, by the way is a doorway to other projects, such as "protect the table" pads for hot stuff. A quick story: My father and his wife burned a lovely wooden table, accidentally. She had made a pie for a family dinner, a labor of love, beautiful and delicious. Something happened, and she had to set the pie down quick, an asthma attack or something I don't remember the exact cause, and didn't get back to it. The beautiful oak table top, from then on, was covered with a tablecloth. Just imagine if instead of hot pads to bring it to the table she had a lovely pie pad to place it on and carry it in that way. Cool idea for another project or two. This is also how you could start a beautiful quilted carry all with pockets on a walker, or a stroller, for people who need that. Hmmm on the side of a wheel chair, oh both sides.. with strong hook and loop so the pockets could be remove-able but the arms of the wheelchair still have the quilted cover-- that idea needs to be fine tuned. Ah, but that is how it goes: creativity shows up and hopefully you write it down to be able get back to the good ideas that pop up, when your mind is busy doing other things, in the moment. Life goes on so persistently and daily, it is so nice to have these tutorials to come to, that spark new ideas. I think I may be hooked. LOL. Thanks again, Jenny Doan! Bless you.
