We have a new tradition here at Missouri Star: Triple Play! Once a month, Jenny, Misty, and Natalie each demonstrate their own, unique take on a favorite block, technique, or template. This week these talented Doan ladies are showing off three adorable quilts made with our brand new Missouri Star Wing Template, which is a companion to our trusty Simple Wedge template.
Natalie's "Layered Diamonds" quilt is made with the Wing Template, the Simple Wedge template, and 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cake). Her fabric is "Glow" by Wishwell for Robert Kaufman. Bonus project: She also used the small simple wedge and wing templates and a charm pack of 5 inch squares to make an adorable Mini Layered Diamonds Table Runner!
Misty's "Christmas Tree Farm" quilt is made with the large wing template and 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cake). Misty's fabric is Hustle and Bustle Layer Cake by Basic Grey for Moda Fabrics. Bonus project: She also used the small wing template and a Kona Cotton Paintbox Charm Pack by Robert Kaufman Fabrics to make TWO Tree Farm Table Runners! (Yes, two runners from one charm pack!)
Jenny's "Just Wing It" quilt is made with 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cake). Jenny's fabric is Snowdays Flannel 10" Squares Bonnie Sullivan by Maywood Studio. This quilt is made up of quick and easy half-rectangle triangles. Jenny also used the small wing template and two of Moda's Bella Solids charm packs - green and red - to whip up a Just Wing It Mini quilt.

I love the elegance and simplicity of Misty's pattern. It would be sweet to applique a gold star at the top of some the trees, just scattered randomly. I also love everyone's hair today! So cute.

Thank you, Doan ladies, for 3 gorgeous patterns. I usually have one favorite on triple play but I have three favorites this time. The angles on Natalie’s will spin my head a little but it will be so worth it. I love the clean, contemporary look of Misty’s pattern and it’s so simple! And Miss Jenny, yours has the perfect scrappy look! Three big winners!

I’m beginning to see a definite pattern to these three ladies’ design style. Jenny tends to be traditional. Misty is modern and Natalie is very artsy. All are extremely creative! Something for everyone.

I lay my quilt out on a flannel backed tablecloth (on the floor) and roll it up when I am happy with the placement of all the pieces. Then I just unroll it a little at a time as I sew it together!! I mostly make mosaic t-shirt quilts so it works fabulously for me!!

I like the fabric in Jenny's mini better than in the large, which I think was too busy to look at. Thanks for demos on that method--quick and easy!

I once made a sweet dress out of burnt orange solids with animals prints which were black and white. After I finished the dress and tried it on, I saw that I'd sewn the animals upside down. Knowing how much time I'd put into its finish and I was planning on wearing it to greet my husband arriving at the airport from a business trip, I made a decision to wear it anyway and I dubbed it my "Upsie Downsie Dress". It was a hit with my sewing friends.

I have been quilting for almost 2 years. My first Christmas I took on a monumental Christmas tree runner. I did not have a pattern, I had to make it up as I went. Needless to say the "first runner" took me over 8 hours of sewing, ripping and recutting. UGH! I so wish I had this wing cutting template, as it would have made everything easy peasy. Jenny, for some reason your quilt reminds me of gnome hats! I love this new cutting tool!

I am from way down under and have only been quilting for a year. I am always inspired with the various tutorials that are shown. Sadly unable to purchase the charm packs etc due to no international mailings due to limited flights due to Australia being in constant coved lock downs. Not many variety’s available so next year hopefully when things go back to some sort of normality shall spend up big. Again ladies l enjoy watching and learning

Wow Natalie I really love the layered diamonds, Misty you did an awesome Job, the first thought that came to my mind was a Christmas tree farm. Another great Triple play! All the designs are good but I loved the mini versions the best, Those are all awesome. I also appreciated that Jenny used Flannel to make Her quilt and the fabrics for that are beautiful too. I loved all of the fabrics for each quilt and each design inspired me with some pretty cool "what if" moments, to me that is what sets Your tutorials apart. The designs are easy to make & You always inspire :) Of the big quilts Misty's was especially beautiful to me, love everything about it ! Thank You for all the work, effort You put into bringing us these tutorials every week. Like so many others I look forward to each one :)
