This band checks off every box you can think of, best band to come around in decades! Their versatility is simply amazing! They can melt your heart with a song like "Daydreaming", melt your face off with "Rinne", boggle your brain with "Different" or "Screaming", and then when you think they could not surprise you anymore your mind gets blown by "Onset" or "Puzzle". Ok they have covered the gambit what else could they possibly do? Wait, what is this Band Maiko??? 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂

The orchestral intro mirrors what they do at concerts, where a similar piece of music plays in the background as they come on stage. Since this is the first track on the new album, I think they added that to give it the same feel as their live shows.

You’ve got to check out their live performances as they’re even better live and they tend to do extended solos and intros. My best recommendation to start with would be “Onset” or “Domination”. They’re all available on their official youtube channel.

I really appreciate your way of reviewing an MV - for the type of comments you're making, not stopping is better IMO, it is more spontaneous this way. And of course, I love that you insist so much on Akane's drumming - some people don't realize how good she is (and I often wonder if she knows how good she is!). And our sweet Mincho (Kanami's nickname) turning into a fire-breathing Godzillesque monster (when she isn't strapped to a car roof!) is both hilarious (she HATES heights) and amazing (when you'll start to know them better, you'll see she's usually an extremely shy, mannered soft-spoking lady who turn into a rock godess on stage - Dr Jekyll and Ms Hyde!

Thanks for covering Band-Maid, Sygneh. Great technical breakdown! Band-Maid's music is dense and can be a bit confusing at first. Yet it's played and integrated so well, we can (sort of) follow along on the first couple of listens and just be amazed with what we're hearing. After our minds settle down, we can run it through a few more times and start to hear individual parts, which are very complex for a rock band, but fascinating and satisfying. With more listens we begin to more fully appreciate just what's going on here - just how good and cleaver these five, unique and prolific rock stars are. Band-Maid is one of those rare bands, like RUSH & YES, for example, that create music one can listen to over and over, rediscovering, and still feel like it's fresh and exciting as the first time. I still get chills hearing their early songs. That, along with the bright, fun and quirky personalities of each Maid, should be a golden formula for stratospheric success.

These are because of two things mainly: 1. we know we'll get a good reaction and insights out of you, considering the 2 previous bandmaid reaction you've done 2. because we know you will enjoy it and all we want is for you to have a good time and inherently a great day We saw how bandmaid can put a smile on your face, it happens to all of us. I think seeing a session musician react to them Live with how tight they are will be really interesting... I have seen non-musicians who thought they weren't really playing it sounded so good... For a real professional listening I wouldn't even mind if she did fan-cams that way she can get the music with no post production at all. Regardless, seeing them live is truly the eye opening experience even if it is on a screen...

Wonderful reaction. It is always great to watch a professional break down a song and point out things I would normally gloss over. And don't worry about not stopping the video. Your audio is mixed just right that the video and your mic don't overpower the other. So we hear your comments just fine and it feels more genuine when we can hear in real-time your thoughts during the song. As for the next song I would recommend the live official video of Play or Onset. Both show of some great bass and technique. Or as a change of pace Wonderland live, one of their more mellow songs.

Wonderland is such a great song... when she described loving the vocals so much along with a complex technical arrangement as a whole package that was one of the first songs that came to my mind. That song is underappreciated imo, they really did a lot of experimental things in it and all of it sounds great together.

It's almost criminal how ridiculously talented these ladies are!!! For a more bass heavy(with a killer bass solo), try the song No God off their latest album Unseen World. Unfortunately there's no video for it(yet🙏), though I heard rumors of another video drop very soon(next week)! If not, try a live performance. Remarkably, they are better live! Domination, Play, Onset(Instrumental) for starters. They are so good that they do their own stunts!!!👍👍🤘🤘🤘

Slap bass: everybody has to start somewhere. Misa as well as all the others has continuously developed her skills. At one point she was so relentless in learning and practicing slap bass that she soon had bloody blisters. It was at THAT point she heard they had studio time. So... she went in and played through the pain ANYway. They have literally worked through blood, sweat, and tears to be at the level they are.

Sygneh, This is the vey first time I have ever posted on a reaction video. I love watching the reaction of the person when they hear Band Maid, especially for the first time ever. I'm probably being WAY too nosey, but I'm curious how many new subscribers, Including me, you have picked up after reacting to Manners and Warning? I'm 55 yrs old, and a former 80's metal guitarist/Bassist. I discovered this this wonderful group of young women I guess around March of last year. I had basically quit playing guitar until then. I have bought their cds World Domination and Conqueror and have not really listened to anything since. Even after 100's of playthroughs of the cds, every time a song comes on I still get that rush. I preordered Unseen world, due to be delivered Wednesday and I cant wait. I was kind of not really thrilled (no pun intended) with the rock/metal scene for the last few years and the girls have totally revived my love. Everything about them just makes me feel happy, and in 2020 that was really saying something. I loved your reactions and I hope you go back through their catalog some, so many truly great songs....but it's really their love of the music and FOR EACH OTHER that makes my heart full. You can't fake that kind of comradery. The fan posted vids of their world domination tour, with being such small venues, which were packed, and being that close up to them...it was just amazing. The quality isn't the best on some but the power is there regardless and the connection with the fans.....and each other. Keep up the awesome reactions and good luck with your webpage. I could tell you were freaked by how we , their loyal fans, jumped onto you page. That's why I wondered how many new subs you got. Sorry for the long first time post. Take care, and all my love to the amazing members of Band Maid.

I've been playing music for a long time, but when you get down to it, I'm a hobbyist and my experience can't compare to someone who does it for a living. One example is something I've noticed with you and others who do similar breakdowns, is how you have this... just 360 degree awareness of everything going on in the song, all at once. At least that's how it looks to me. I can only concentrate on one or two elements at a time, so I'll miss how three or more elements are interacting, for instance. That kind of awareness is something I really admire and value, so thank you for sharing it with us. Unrelated, but the video for this song reminds me a lot of Sabotage, what with the car chase and all. And speaking of distinctive bass lines, Adam Yauch really showed us what you can do when you throw "proper" technique out the window, you know? This is going long, but I also wanted to comment on how the chords and chord progressions are relatively simple in the arrangement. Compare to something like Corcovado (which I still can't play), the chord structure of this song is practically bare-bones. It seems like the complexity really comes in with how they play with time and rhythm. Does that make sense? Anyway, thanks again for posting this. I'm looking forward to watching your other Band-Maid videos!

Great reaction Sygneh, I'm not a musician but I appreciate your insights into the musical details of our Maid's, so Thank You. I've read (translated) interviews of Misa and she's mentioned that she works on a technique where she can hold the pick but still slap when she needs to and Akane has a "double" striker pedal for her kick drum that she uses, she may of initially made it herself but I'm not sure.

What I like about BM is the spirit of the band which drives their sound. And I think that spirit begins with Miku, the founder of the band. She not only assembled a kickass group of musicians but they have fun and they are united and coherent and work together to make sure each member shines in each song. They are not just a wall of sound. Every song is crafted.

They just signed with Lava/ Republic records and are now finishing up their 3rd album. They did a cover of Hysteria by The Muse and Ale the bass player was Around 10 years old at the time. They are ages at this point Dani on guitar 20 soon to be 21 Pau on drums is 18 and Ale on bass just turned 16. Ale plays a Spector bass and is the youngest at 13 that they have ever sponsered. They have a signature bass coming out for her this year called Golden Thunder!

I seem to remember someone else (one of the reactors) saying that b-m could be his dream band... Surprisingly bass isn't the main focus of this song. I've been on band-maid binge for the last 6 months so I'm starting to get used to how good misa is. However, the 5th track "I still seek revenge" is a bass show down. You're gonna love it. There are so many things you will love about this band, drummer Akane started drumming when she was 18, previously worked in a jazz cover band, she's also a pro DJ. The drummer, the lead bassist and the lead guitarist all played piano at some point, everyone except the drummer was a lead singer at one point. The lead vocal also play a bit of piano and guitar. Kanami the lead guitarist compose most band-maid songs and miku the rhythm guitarist/secondary vocal writes the lyrics. But everyone in the band is involved in the arrangements. There's no weak link in the band, the commitment, determination and the passion those 5 share never cease to impress me. And it's paying off.

Try "Freedom" live , "Domination" live, and "Don't you tell me" live. Killer Japanese bands you might enjoy ---- BabyMetal, Lovebites, and Waggaki Band. European next level bands --- Nightwish "Romanticide" live , Jinjer "Pisces" live session , Ayreon "Everybody dies" live. Enjoy!

Thank you for sharing your reaction and review. It's very entertaining and educative. Please keep reacting and reviewing Band-Maid's music because in my opinion they are very unique and very good. I recommend the song "Yolo" (in their official channel).

Misa demonstrated, in a radio interview that was simulcast on YT, how she palmed her pick between her index finger and MCP pad to go to slap and back to picking in an instant. On a rare occasion she plays without a pick such as the live performance of "Awkward," where she had an integral part in the arrangement. You should check that one out. Great reaction again, Po!

Ton of small little details feels like a trade mark. In general we get a relatively simple sounding melody ... with a ton of little bits that are actually easy to miss while being fairly complex

Another Japanese group worth checking out is Babymetal. They are actually more popular than Band-Maid. Please react to this: BABYMETAL - "No Rain, No Rainbow (Budokan Black Night)". This song is a ballad. Beautiful vocal and instrumental melodies. This song is amazing. 👍

I love that you can dissect what's happening from a musician's perspective. I learn something. "Blooming" MV is great. So is "Real Existence" and "Dice" MV. Their live stuff is excellent. For something unique, try "Secret Maiko Lips." They dial in traditional Japanese instruments into hard rock.

Akane is one of the best drummers there is. Jimmy Page said back in 2016 that Akane was the best drummer he ever heard playing since John Bonham.

Readguiterist and composer KANAMI is a genius. Even a genius is always trying hard to try new songs. Chinese character of her name means a wave of songs. Literally, she wakes up big wave of music all over the world.

It is a joy to see the excitement of new Band Maid fans...great stuff. As far as other Japanese bands check out Nemophila. If you like bass check out Rush doing YYZ Live in Rio. Back to Band Maid Domination Live on Feb 14th in Shibuya is great as well as Freedom and Play. MVs for Dice , Rinne, Thrill and Real Existence are also very good.

One of my favorite bits of this song is when the vocals were acting like another rhythm instrument behind the guitar solo. It's little things like that which constantly blow me away when these women make music You really do need to check out Domination live to truly see Misa go full ham! You'll thank me later!

Band maid! A Japanese band ohmy. Another awesome Japanese band to react to is Official Hige dandism. They're more of a pop-band really, but dang do the vocalist write some of the most interesting songs. You'll be hearing a lot of soul and gospel integrated into their music. They're a four membered band, but they be using a lot of strings, trumpet and saxophone as well. They recently came out with a song called 'Universe'. Although theyve been a constant in the Japanese top 10 pop charts ever since their release of 'Pretender'. They've released MV's for most of their songs from their album Traveler (2019), which got #1 on the Japanese album chart. If you want a upbeat but deep song I recommend going for 'I love...' as well. I hope you can spare them some time. They'll definitely lighten up your day in some way or another. Remember to put on the subs whenever there are :) Have a great day😊

agreed on not stopping the song. tune must flow, at least the first time. most reactors do pauses because of blocking issues, some pick every detail and point the finger at it and it quickly becomes annoying, like adverts in a movie. this way (your way) works best for me. and if i may, i would suggest anything Band Maid live, as long as it's Onset first :) you got invaded by maidiac army, there is no way out...

You will love all of them! Akane-47 has no boundaries ( the drummer)! MISA can do anything Bass... ANYTHING! Miku ( rhythm guitar) is the genius who got them together and writes the lyrics...and learned playing the guitar when they were formed!! Saiki voice is the best I've heard in years, her stage presence is undeniable. Kanami on the lead guitar is the mastermind composer and Minus teacher....

Since you're "All about that Bass" who is your favourite 4 string (or 5) master? I've always been a Stu Hamm and Geddy Lee fan. For great MV Bass from MISA try Real Existence or Dice. The most fun live BM song for Bass is probably "Play" or "Onset" but low key I think Freedom has some lovely Bass lines in the Bridge too. For some fun Bass action you could try Unleash the Archer's "Awakening" It has an amazing camera shot of a Bass run in the MV :)
