@flamingomtn
@flamingomtn 6 жыл бұрын
Myself, I wouldn't cover the whole cake with it. If you want to do that, use icing sheets. You can join Verity's sheets after they're printed and coated with the gelatin mixture by using the same mixture to join the slightly overlapped sheets.

Hi Verity, thanks for the lovely tutorial. Please, I would like to know if this fabric can be placed on the fondant, because I have noticed that it (the fondant) tends to melt in contact with the gelatine. Thank you very much.
@flamingomtn
@flamingomtn 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, it can. BUT, it's different to attach. I use corn syrup as a glue and have not had any problem with the fondant melting. Keep in mind that the fabric is fiddly to cut so it's best used as decoration, rather than covering the whole cake.
@MissVdubber
@MissVdubber 6 жыл бұрын
Glycerine in the culprit as it is a humectant so reacts with sugar making it "melt". The drier the EdiFab is, the less trouble you will have.

I love this and am trying to make flowers but am having trouble with the petals not sticking to each other. Tried using the wet solution as a glue but it dissolved the petals. A tiny dab of water worked but as it dried, the pieces came loose again. Tried: corn syrup, vodka, fondant, marshmallows, taffy, and a heated tool which was the best but hard to apply to right spot before cooling. Your suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

Verity Wood Thank you for answering😊 Sorry I'm afraid I wasn't clear enough. My question pointed at if I even use (white) rice paper, even when I wanted the fabric to be coloured e.g. with silver lustre (do I always need to incorporate some kind of rice paper) or if I just colour the gelatine mix and paint it straight on the mat. But as I just read your answer I guess I make white fabric and paint it after its dried, right? Any hints on how I colour it without the lustre rubbing of with every touch? Thank you so much 😍 I'm really exited for this technique. You're a genius

This is basically just meant for decoration. You can eat it if you want - no harm coz it's edible.

@@maz2032 Thanks. I haven't used it for cakeboards coz the material is too small for my boards. But I've tried and used it quite a few times already and it's amazing! Thank you Verity for sharing.

I wouldn't suggest to cover a cake with this - doable though. You can probably apply a flavorful of icing if you want to do this to at least cover up for the rice paper taste. Try eating a rice paper - and it will be the same. Unless you add a flavoring to it. This is amazing idea from Verity.

I assume the Ink used is "Edible" and I am curious how you would CUT a cake covered in this for as stretchy and rubbery as it is
@MissVdubber
@MissVdubber 7 жыл бұрын
Kathryn Roberts yes it is edible ink. It isn't a cake covering, Just a decoration so no different to any problems you'd encounter with other forms of decoration... whether it be modelling paste swags or removing ribbon before cutting.

Verity Wood So you would definitely not use this with Buttercream frosting, taking it back off the cake could be a disaster

Hi, you have to let the fabric 100% dry before putting onto fondant , you can make your decoration as soon as a couple of hours after making it but let them dry for a day or two before adding to the cake then fix with royal or melted chocolate x

rice paper and an edible ink printer x
@misskim2058
@misskim2058 6 жыл бұрын
You could probably also stamp with edible inks, and mix it up as you like it if you do not have such a printer. You just have to work from an empty stamp pad and load with edible ink, or some people dab it on the stamp w an inexpensive makeup sponge and not use a stamp pad. Just for budget-minded people who want to give it a go. Amazon often has inexpensive stamp sets, as does some dollar stores.
