We live on the 18th floor of our apartment building, and have been dropping them with dollar bills attached for the homeless people. It's a blast, and a great way to give. They think it's coming from God !

I am a very late comer to KZfaq so have to catch up somewhat. A hint regarding the string. If you find the end of the string inside the hole in the center you can pull the string out and the ball should sit on the table. Thanks for the video.

Cut a small spill hole in the center of the canopy to prevent it from oscillating when floating back to earth.

lol, round parachutes aren't all that fun. You launch your rocket and it drifts, and drifts, and drifts some more then gets stuck in a tree half a mile away. If you just take your square piece of plastic and cut about 2" off one edge so that it is rectangular, then cut 6 strings, the first laying along the short axis of the chute splitting it in half, one string on each end, split the two half with two more strings, and the 6th string goes down the middle length wise. Dab the edges of the plastic with glue and add a couple drops in the middle so the strings don't get tangled. Pull all the strings on the left side together and knot them at the desired length, then pull all the left strings together and knot them a tiny bit shorter. Tie each set to your shock cord and the rocket will come down in a spiral, if there is no wind it will land within a few feet of the launch pad just about every time.

Wow, some 60 ish years ago, I used to have a toy like that with a Plastic Paratrooper attached. Used to throw it in the air and watch my toy soldier float back down to earth. Now you got me thinking, how large a diameter would be necessary to attach a GoPro, throw it in the air and get some great shots as it floats back to earth - could be a poor man's Drone - what do you reckon?

I did it a while back. Unfortunately, I had a disaster before I worked out the kinks. I launched my old Hero 5 with a water rocket. The parachute didn't deploy. That wasn't the main problem, though. The main problem was that it landed on our patio. I think it would have been fine if it had landed in the soft meadow. At any rate, I think I solved the problem by adding a small secondary chute to pull out the primary chute. It worked every time after that. Even when wet.

@@MisterStapleton Haha, you sound like the Mad Professor. Anyway, please upload your parachute exploits as even if it fails, it will get views. My GoPro are both 5/6, never felt a need to upgrade them to be honest. Can put them in their spong wind noise reduction covers to provide a little more 'bounce' protection.

A word of warning. A 1/2 inch (13mm) hole made in the center with a string glued round the hole will give stability to the parachute. Air must not billow from the skirt too much, or the chute will become unstable. The hole must be 1/2000 the size of the canopy.
