Alot here i and many others relate to. I too used valium for 6-8 yrs. Low dose but ea day. I weaned off last june over 2 months. I used it to sleep a crutch. I weaned in the midst of TMS lol. But im off it. No meds. I think Misty’s multiple pains helps us me! It supports that TMS is real. No disease can cause tinnitus numb feet nausea etc etc. laughable. These success stories are nails in the TMS coffin. Thankyou!

Misty's description of her catastrophic pain attack reminds me so much of my massive TMS pain attack I had after coming in from running one evening not long after the death of my mother in January 2001. What amazes me is how my GP routed me into a local PT center for back pain without ever asking me about any major emotional upset like the death of a near relative that preceded the onset of my symptoms. Like the whole medical establishment is hypnotised into the false belief that there's no connection between emotions and physical symptoms although there obviously was in my case. Luckily, I started coming out of the worst of the pain about 6 months later when I started re-engaging with life activities. The meds did get me through the worse of my symptoms though..

Man has forgotten many ancient wisdoms. That body and mind are one. Pain is mainly approached physically. Doctors don't learn this during their training. And doctors are all focused on one specific part of the body. Are you hurt?? Then something is broken in the body. Not so! Hurt often does not mean harm. Mindbody medicine should be part of all medical education worldwide. So that a doctor can refer a person to a TMS coach.

Had to notice misty saying at one point she cant stand people "whining while not doing anything to help themselves" and later saying she learned compassion and that people have feelings. I feel that these are extremely harsh words to use against people who are in the throes of such hellish conditions. Many times i wonder about the line between healthy rational thinking and whats called toxic positivity. Whether tms or not, all or most people with chronic pain never recover fully. Its a simple fact known by everyone, yet so hard to look at. We all (including myself) do all in our power to shy away from it. Its a very dissonant, paradoxical path to walk, but i guess thats what being human is about. Cool interview though, and misty is great. Hope shes still making progress. Many thanks to both of you

To make it a little better for myself at work I want to ask my boss if I can work in a quiet place/at home a little more instead of in the crowded office. Do you see this as giving in to the symptoms (and sending danger signals to my brain) or can I see it as a good thing to help my brain being calm more often in a quiet place, working by myself? Thank you in advance!

Hi Dan. Well I listened to the entirety of Misty's come back. And I had a couple questions for you as usual. But I want to thank you for sticking with me because I am extremely serious about getting better and what it means to get better and all that. Question number one, what brought on her symptoms out of nowhere as she explained it. The reason I'm asking that is have you ever heard of the book 'The body keeps the score'? By Vanderculk? What it's about is very different than this in a sense that when you've had trauma after trauma as a child which I did I grew up in an extremely abusive neglectful home where the wounds were extremely deep and it never went away. So of course I felt that what I'm experiencing physically which sucks is because of the trauma and the wounds and the abuse. But when Misty was talking it was like it came out of the blue and then she started visiting doctors and chiropractors and all that kind of stuff. Getting on a bunch of pain pills etc. How do you see the mental part of this? like if you're mentally ill or you have mental illness or call it what you will, you are mentally dealing with like I am complex PTSD does that cause the symptoms? Even Misty said until she realized she had ADHD she wasn't really fully well. So dealing with psychiatric illnesses seems a unique part of this. Can you share anything about that? Can you clarify this for me. Dan I would really appreciate it I want you to know I've been on your website many many times I took the assessment I don't know what it means or doesn't mean to be quite honest with you. All I know is I'm walking four times further than I used to before I listened to you. When I'm in pain and I'm walking I just becoming indifferent to it and keep on walking and tell myself that I'm safe even though I'm having pain. Thanks a lot look forward to your answer.

Kavita, I could answer your question. I did not explain every detail of my life and the events in my life. Dan doesn’t even know everything. PTSD absolutely plays apart. Taking medicine for ADHD absolutely did not help my pain. If you would like to ask me any questions I’m more then happy to talk with you. You can message me on FB or Instagram. If Dan answers all your questions that’s great!☺️ I wish you all the best. I know this is a very hard road. I’m sorry 😢for what you have had to experience. 😢

@@misty6210 hey Misty. Thank you for replying to my comment. My comment was not about you it was about questions I have regarding how does complex PTSD play a part in pain and what about mental illness how is that a part of TMS. And what I wrote, you can read it it's right there. I just wanted you to know it wasn't personal about you I was just using a couple of things you said that I found were very very interesting. I don't use Facebook and I have no way of getting a hold of you but I want to thank you and let you know how much I appreciate you reaching out to me. I was hoping Dan could shed some light on the questions I asked because I don't understand how it comes into play. I'm so glad you're doing better I'm so glad that you got your life back and I think it's wonderful that you have a special needs child and you look at your child as a blessing not as a burden. Take care and happy holidays.

Kavita: It seems that Misty's impression was that the symptoms "came out of nowhere". But, that doesn't mean there was no cause. She did have PTSD and trauma in her life. The way I see it is this: The more bad stuff that happens to us in our life, the more vigilant our brain gets looking out for danger. The more sensitive our nervous system gets as well. All of this is in an attempt to keep us safe. At a certain point, the brain perceives danger and the symptoms start. We then get sucked into the medical system trying to figure out the cause of the symptoms and we get further traumatized by the medical process and lack of success in eliminating symptoms. I'm not a huge fan of mental illness labels like complex ptsd, etc. Why? Because they convince us that we are broken. The more broken we feel, the more barriers there are to feeling well. I am not a deep student of trauma getting stuck in the body. But for me, believing we have trauma in the body is a scary proposition. Where exactly is it? How do we get it out? How do we know when we have gotten it out? That seems really complicated to me. My belief is much more simple. When our brain perceives danger (for whatever reason), symptoms and/or pain is the result. The symptoms are a warning signal, not evidence of the condition of the body. The solution? Knowing your body is actually okay and that symptoms are just your brains way of warning us of things it perceives as dangerous. When we teach the brain we are not in danger and our past traumas are not happening to us anymore, symptoms can fade away. The key thing is that the brain controls everything. Teach the brain safety and physical and mental challenges can go away.

@@PainFreeYoui read the book about trauma by Psychiatrist Bessel Van Der Kolk.. it was very interesting and helpful to see what trauma can provoke in the body and brain ! The most important part of the book was for me that he focuses on methods based on neuroplasticiry to repair ‘those trauma - consequences ! How? He uses mindfulness.sometimes temporarily medication to help dial down the over-response of the alarm of the brain, and most importantly lets patients make new positive life- experiences that contrast totally with the feeling of powerless and creating new positive ways to see the future.. I read it in Dutch so it’s hard to translate it totally but end conclusion was and is for me, that what you teach totally correlated with this high qualified professor ! He was extremely hopeful that no matter what the patient had gone through, it is reversible with creating safety in that patient ´s life, mindset, brain etc..

Is brain retraining necessary (imaging light diminishing the symptoms)? And do you have ppl dealing with adrenaline dumps/ post covid in the group
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou Жыл бұрын
When we go about it as "brain retraining", things get very complicated. Perceived danger is the issue. Safety is the solution. As for adrenaline dumps / post covid - we spend almost no time on the medical description of what happens in the body. Is adrenaline involved? Yes. But we don't try to fix adrenaline dumps. We simply focus on how to teach the brain that we are NOT in danger. The brain will handle the rest. The brain knows how to wire itself when given the correct knowledge that the body is not in danger.
